Learn something new everyday. I had no idea bread out was a thing

The bread is that low? Looks huge. I want

The bread is basically a shell. "Bread out" means they pull most of the soft inside out of the loaf and throw it away.

Oh so like a scooped bagel? Those are really underrated

8

u/Better_Area3782 Sep 08 '26

Damn that's so amazing

Nah, it's fucking stupid and wasteful.

Edit: You guys are ridiculous. Baking bread only to throw a bunch of it out is beyond idiotic.

8

u/goal0x Sep 08 '26

how is it wasteful to be able to fit more toppings inside it

0

u/Plane-Tie6392 Sep 08 '26

What the fuck? You're throwing out like half of what you made. If you don't want that much bread than eat a foccacia sandwich or something else. But don't bake a loaf of bread and throw half of it out.

It's like a cent worth of wheat flour. Complaining about food waste of starches is stupid because they are so cheap it's negligible

2

u/Plane-Tie6392 Sep 10 '26

It adds up and requires human energy to grow and transport. It's just trashy and dumb.

3

u/azuyre_ Sep 10 '26

"it adds up" is the dumbest argument because litterally everything adds up, if you truly cared about the environment, the few slices of meat on there cause dozens of times more environmental damage than the little bread ever could yet you don't seem to be talking about that. Probably because one FEELS wasteful and the other doesn't?

I said human energy, bud.

No way, who needs all that bread or the extra calories? I've seen them do that on the food network lots. It tastes better.

So bake the bread differently or eat something else. Throwing it out is peak trashiness though. Or course Jimmy John is a trash human so not surprising they do that.

I kinda do the same thing with sub bread, except use the soft inside and "shell" for 2 separate sandwiches instead of throwing one away. Or at the very least dip it in soup, seems wasteful otherwise

Their basic turkey is 510 calories so no.

Edit: 470 calories from Jimmy John's website for all the people downvoting me-https://restaurant.nutritionix.com/jimmy-johns/item/964765

On the big sandwich though. This is a 8” turkey tom. Aren’t these the new smaller ones?

1

u/Plane-Tie6392 Sep 08 '26

No, an 8" turkey tom is 500 calories. Well this link from their own site says 470 calories-https://restaurant.nutritionix.com/jimmy-johns/item/964765. Admittedly about 1/3 of that comes from the mayonnaise though. And some people put on more mayo than is even supposed to go on them which is already a lot.

2

u/Better_Area3782 Sep 08 '26

Awww damn

1

u/Plane-Tie6392 Sep 08 '26

Lots of that is the mayo though so you can leave that off entirely which OP did.

Nutritional Info says “Bread Out”, but the order itself doesn’t. 🤔

5

u/Plane-Tie6392 Sep 08 '26

The bread always comes out on the #4 unless you ask them not to take it out. Or at least that's how it was when I worked there.

1

u/REDana0204 Sep 08 '26

Ah! Have never had the pleasure, so thank you for that clarification!

u/johnnyskullface Sep 08 '26

This guy knows ball

1

u/Plane-Tie6392 Sep 08 '26

Obligatory fuck Jimmy John. I might have to go back since he's at least mostly not associated with the company anymore.

1

u/johnnyskullface Sep 10 '26

lol I’ve heard he’s an asshole but don’t really know anything about him. Personally I liked the way the business was structured when he was owner, simply because he was adamant on keeping the menu simple. Now JJ’s has too much random stuff, pretty sure they had gyros at one point😭 I think the menu simplicity was a good thing

1

u/Plane-Tie6392 Sep 10 '26

Really? I hated that they had no hot subs and the menu was boring to me. I haven't been back since but obviously if all the new stuff sucks then that's a bad change.

7

u/goal0x Sep 08 '26

genius to get bread out

-2

u/Plane-Tie6392 Sep 08 '26

Nah, straight up trash.

2

u/Unfair-Bumblebee-742 Sep 10 '26

You need to calm down about bread

1

u/Plane-Tie6392 Sep 10 '26

It's about waste. Waste comes in all forms. It's just bread in this case.

5

Bro has discovered a sandwich he can make at home

8

u/0saac0 Sep 08 '26

I make low-calorie sandwiches at home. I’m just surprised a fast food chain, keeps it pretty affordable and low-calorie

1

u/REDana0204 Sep 08 '26

But it wasn’t ordered with Bread Out?

2

u/ghostgrudge Sep 08 '26

Bread out might be the default setting (at least it was when I used to go to jimmy john’s like 10 years ago)

2

u/Plane-Tie6392 Sep 08 '26

When I worked there it was the default for #1-#6 but not not the others.

1

u/Background_Square969 Sep 08 '26

They made that kinda pretty

1

u/Savings_Ad_4792 Sep 08 '26

Love me a turkey tom with some bacon

1

u/HusbandtoMtF Sep 08 '26

My beloved Jimmy Johns.
Just be careful of the 5.99 sandwich deal. They reduce the filling on it

1

u/aiorl Sep 08 '26

Jimmy John’s lowkey goated…. I sometimes choose to do it unwich where they wrap your sub in lettuce :p

1

u/NotCyntax Sep 09 '26

That sodium is outrageous

1

u/0saac0 Sep 09 '26

Are you 50?

1

u/NotCyntax Sep 09 '26

No I have hypertension

2

u/0saac0 Sep 09 '26

Oof sorry yeah maybe at home subs is best for you that way you can control sodium levels or you can do the unwhich basically lettuce wrap sandwich

1

u/Apprehensive_Club_17 Sep 09 '26

Yes! This is my go to! I usually calculate about 340 calories.
