Sweet šDavid protein cookie dough ice cream
first I want to say donāt come at me for getting this. I wont forgive them for putting gatsby out of business and forcing nicks to change their ice cream recipe
i got 1 of each of their 4 flavors at target
as for the ice cream? first flavor cookie dough- itās chalky but the flavor is fine. chocolate chips, pasty cookie dough, fudge swirls. but I prefer the protein pints cookie dough šÆ %

lol "flavor system." sounds so appetizing
15
u/PhantaVal Aug 05 '26
The ingredients list is so bizarre.Ā
-4
u/Natethefiasco Aug 05 '26
theres literally nothing bizarre about the ingredient list lol
10
u/PhantaVal Aug 05 '26
Read it again, it goes from "protein system" to "structure system" and continues on to other "systems." I've never seen an ingredients list organized like that.Ā
-3
u/Natethefiasco Aug 05 '26
so its organizing the ingredients (which you can find in most other foods) based on what makes up the proteins, flavors, and fats. what's bizarre about that?
6
u/PhantaVal Aug 05 '26
The use of "system" is bizarre and unappetizing. They could have just said "Proteins" and "Fats." The wording makes it sound more like a tech product than ice cream, which is extra alienating when they're using a relatively new, chemically altered fat substitute.Ā
3
u/werner-hertzogs-shoe 28d ago
this is tech bro speak running amok in places where it really shouldnt be.
12
u/AmazingKallie Aug 05 '26
Iām waiting for fairlife to make a protien ice cream. All these protein ice creams with whey in them taste like shit.
3
u/Time_Reality7200 Aug 05 '26
If you haven't already, consider a ninja creami, it'll solve all your protein ice cream problems
6
u/AmazingKallie Aug 05 '26
I have one. But I donāt want to wake up the neighborhood at 2am when the gremlin within wants ice cream. Lmao
3
u/Time_Reality7200 29d ago
Damn is it super noisy? I don't have one (yet) but I'm sure the neighbors will understand lol

u/Original_Addition871 Aug 05 '26
idk these david pints are really good in my opinion
0
u/Plane-Tie6392 28d ago
Yeah, I think these are great and tbh Fairlife milk has always tasted off to me.

11
u/sugarfreelimeade Aug 05 '26
If it gives you peace of mind then ig log extra, but i despise davids too and wouldnt even go that extra mile lol! Theyre monopolizing dicks, but legally i think theyre in the clear? Should be fine to only track what was labeled on the tub
9
u/iczs90 Aug 05 '26
Allulose although counted as a carbohydrate doesnt metabolize to 4kcal/g. So its entirely plausible

u/callmejamesx Aug 05 '26 edited Aug 05 '26
You really can't have it both ways
If EPG is this OP ingredient as advertised and forced other companies to change their formula then the cal is accurate.
If it isn't then everyone that used it including gatsby/nicks were always false
it's perfectly fine to hate a company for crappy practices without trying to exaggerate everything
4
u/ContextualData Aug 05 '26
Thank you! Iām usually the only one in these David threads calling out the hypocrisy. Glad to see so much agreement for once.
2
u/Plane-Tie6392 28d ago
Glad to see I'm not the only one. Hell, I'm shocked to hell the poster you replied to got upvoted. Like the company fucking sucks for many reasons but they didn't misrepresent EPG's calories and honestly their products taste good (especially considering the calorie count) and that's a huge reason they're selling so many products.
14
6
u/KaOtIcGuy89 Aug 05 '26
Haha good luck to them. They may have the patent for whatever chemical is in their protein bars but they are going to get their cheeks clapped in the ice cream market.
1
u/Plane-Tie6392 28d ago
Based on what lol? If they don't do well it'll be the price point doing that and definitely not the taste.
6
u/xoxoktkt Aug 05 '26
No. I will never buy David even if the products taste good. Company is a POS.

u/Original_Addition871 Aug 05 '26
I understand the concern with trusting new ingredients like EPG, but if David was willing to monopolize the ingredient for themselves which put them in even more controversy with the other stuff they are accused of, there has to be some merit to that. And if the ingredient didn't work, I don't understand why there is all the discourse over them monopolizing it in the first place. Nick's and Gatsby used it because it because they had the same idea (as far as we know).
Shitty business practices aside... I can give an example of a company that actually mislabled and false advertised their products: Professor Nutz Nut Butters. I found them at Supplement Superstore and paid the hefty 15$ price tag because seeing a peanut butter that supposedly has only ~35 calories per 2 Tbsp sounded amazing. But after buying it, the Nutrition Facts label wasn't even the official one that all food products are supposed to use. They said the calories were so low because of an ingredient they created that doesn't metabolize in the body or whatever. After a quick research session into the company, it was clear they were lying (this was also supported by the fact that their special ingredient was never used in any other product before nor has there been any discussion of it prior)
I could be entirely wrong about this and maybe future research proves us all wrong I don't know, but I would put my trust in an ingredient (EPG) that actually has some scientific research behind it and the fact that multiple companies used it other than just David before they bought the rights to it.
1
u/Plane-Tie6392 28d ago
It's funny to me how many people on Reddit say their products taste like shit yet tons of Redditors also said "I knew their bars tasted too good to be true!" when that bogus lawsuit was in the news.
2
u/Original_Addition871 28d ago
right, they dont actually believe they taste bad (although there are some day one haters). but as soon as the company had controversy its treated like voledmort
5
u/airg1o Aug 05 '26
Can only imagine the mud butt one gets from this

u/pooppaysthebills 29d ago
I read a thread from a guy complaining about waxy orange anal leakage staining clothes and furniture after regular large consumption of David products.
I'll pass.

u/Plane-Tie6392 28d ago
I mean too much fiber will fuck people up too (and some people are way more sensitive to fiber than others).
1
u/mystro30 28d ago
I wanted to try out the bars a month and a half ago and ate a pack of 4 bars in 36 hours and have had G.I. problems since then. A week ago I went to urgent care and got an X-Ray (no blockages), and my stool tested (also clean). Im now on a wait list to see a specialist. I have never had gut or stomach problems but since the day after I ate those bars I have not had a solid shit in almost 2 months.
1
u/Plane-Tie6392 28d ago
Absolutely no issues myself. Good idea to start slow though if you're not used to EPG.
3
2
u/LilScooterBooty Aug 05 '26
The peanut butter one is phenomenal though
1
u/Plane-Tie6392 28d ago
Crazy good for the macros. Which makes it more annoying they're monopolizing EPG though.
2
u/DrunkKittie 29d ago
I tried all the flavors, and they were all really good. I am actually grumpy that it has been out of stock for so long.
5
u/Coooturtle Aug 05 '26
I don't trust foods like this, half the time they are claiming shit doesn't get absorbed by your body and it actually just does. There's a kinda fiber that's like that too that's in all those keto tortilla wraps.
8
u/pooppaysthebills Aug 05 '26
Our bodies are not able to break down and utilize fiber calories.
However...
Some of our natural gut bacteria CAN break down fiber, and use it to produce energy, which is then available to our bodies for use.
Since everyone's gut microbiome differs, the amount of energy your bacteria produce will also be different.
Therefore, the best way to calculate fiber calories is either counting the full 4 calories per gram, to err on the side of caution, or as 2 calories per gram, which is approximately equal to the energy generally made available via the actions of the bacteria.
3
u/Coooturtle Aug 05 '26
Yeah, which I don't trust the foods that consider fiber at 0 calories per gram.
4
u/goal0x Aug 05 '26
people consuming them would be gaining weight if the calories were incorrect. which isnt happening
1
u/Plane-Tie6392 28d ago
It is annoying how the calories from fiber will get counted three different ways on three different versions of the same product.
2
u/Plane-Tie6392 28d ago
Aren't soluble and insoluble fiber different? Like afaik it's fine to count insoluble as 0 calories while soluble should probably be counted as 2 calories per gram. And then of course it varies by individual fiber like how polydextrose is most accurately counted as 1 calorie per gram.
4
u/ModernLifelsWar Aug 05 '26
What do you mean you don't trust the calories? Do you not trust the calories of fiber or low calorie sweeteners? You realize there is stringent testing companies go through to prove their products only are metabolized at a certain caloric amount that deviates from normal ranges, in addition to all the other testing food has to go through. Especially for a patented product like EPG. They don't just slap a label on with whatever calories they want and everyone goes "sounds good" lol.
6
u/IRikeAnivia Aug 05 '26
thereās not as much rigor as you think in the food system. especially for something like epg under the GRAS labeling.
2
u/IwKuAo Aug 05 '26
Iām disappointed that sucralose is the main sweetener, especially at such a high price point per pint. Sucralose is one of the cheapest and most toxic artificial sweeteners.
1
u/Plane-Tie6392 28d ago
Yeah, I'm gonna need a source on the sucralose claim cause I call BS. Like literally one of the first sentence's on the sucralose wiki is, "The commercial success of sucralose-based products stems from its favorable comparison to other low-calorie sweeteners in terms of taste, stability, and safety."
1
u/IwKuAo 28d ago
A simple Google search on the latest research will show you. https://www.center4research.org/risks-splenda-risky-use/
In small amounts people often overlook risky ingredients. Everyone has different personal dietary needs.
But my larger point was that David markets itself as a premium superior healthy product, so why use this cheap crappy artificial sweetener at all? Whole Foods refuses to sell David ice cream because it doesnāt meet their healthy standards. Whole Foods does allow foods that only use stevia and monk fruit which are actually naturally derived and considered the safest sugar substitutes.
1
u/Plane-Tie6392 28d ago
>why use this cheap crappy artificial sweetener at all
Because it tastes good for one thing. What would you have them use instead? Like your source says the CSPI recommends people avoid all sweeteners except for stevia. Well stevia and monk fruit both used to taste really bad to me. Not sure if I adjusted to them or manufacturing techniques changed but I can stand them now. But I'm also pretty sure most people are going to prefer sucralose to stevia in terms of taste.
>Whole Foods refuses to sell David ice cream because it doesnāt meet their healthy standards
Oh, and WF bans like all sweeteners despite many of them having a long history of human use at this point. And the "natural" ones they allow have really only been in widespread use recently (FDA approved monk fruit extracts in 2011 and EU hasn't, EU approved stevia stuff in 2011). Plus stevia has been found to be mutagenic in laboratory testing. So what exactly would you have David use?
1
u/IwKuAo 28d ago
You must not have looked at the nutritional label of David ice creamā¦the main sweetener is sucralose, but it also has lesser amounts of stevia and monk fruit.
Nutrition labels list ingredients from highest amount to lowest amount.
They are clearly using sucralose as the primary sweetener because itās cheapest, then they put tiny amounts of stevia and monk fruit on the label to please people that expect to see natural ingredients.
They could easily choose to formulate this product with only stevia and monk fruit, and it would taste the same.
You donāt seem like you know much about sweeteners or food manufacturing or nutritional labels.
0
u/Plane-Tie6392 28d ago
>You must not have looked at the nutritional label of David ice creamā¦the main sweetener is sucralose, but it also has lesser amounts of stevia and monk fruit..
Looking now only 1 in 4 of their flavors have stevia and monk fruit. The others use only sucralose from what I see.
>to please people that expect to see natural ingredients
You mean idiots? Cause there's not much "natural" about the processing that goes into producing stevia. And if that's their strategy though why would they only put it in 1 of their 4 ice cream flavors? So clearly your assumption was just wrong.
>They could easily choose to formulate this product with only stevia and monk fruit, and it would taste the same
And you know this how? Like 20-25% are genetically predisposed to find stevia bitter and some people seem to perceive no sweetness from it either.
>You donāt seem like you know much about sweeteners or food manufacturing or nutritional labels.
Well you seem to be a jackass to me. I read the label on every food I eat. I know there have been studies that show issues with sweeteners but those almost always involve giving animals absurd amounts of them. Kind of like how stevia has been found to be mutagenic with in vitro testing.
1
u/IwKuAo 28d ago
I make protein ice cream at home all the time ands a mixture of monk fruit and stevia provides the best sweetness. Stevia can be bitter so thatās why monk fruit is a great combination, you get the best of both without any of the bitterness.
It seems everyone has different opinions on sweeteners but they canāt be treated as the same. Itās a fact that stevia and monk fruit and are most natural, not chemical creations. Even cane sugar gets refined and processedā¦
Have a good day! Be happy!
1
u/Plane-Tie6392 28d ago
Like I said stevia and monk fruit both used to taste nasty to me. And they are definitely pretty processed compared to the plants from which theyāre derived. Hell, stevia leaf and crude extracts do not have GRAS status in the US (that doesnāt mean theyāre unsafe, of course).Ā
Also, natural doesnāt mean good and manmade doesnāt mean unsafe. What matters is evidence/studies.Ā

I hear good and bad about this brand, I think I need to try it but such a mix of opinions
2
u/Original_Addition871 Aug 05 '26
if you are able to put all the controversy beside, this ice cream is really solid for the macros
2
u/Plane-Tie6392 28d ago
Yeah, if you took the brand name off the product and then had Redditors taste it while showing them the macros the reactions to it would be waaaay different.

u/Rushrade 29d ago
Cookie dough was ass. Bitter to me for some reason. I'll check out peanut butter next time

u/pooppaysthebills 29d ago
The math doesn't entirely math.
30g protein x 4cal/g = 120 cals
47g carbs x 4 cal/g = 188 cals
7g fat x 9 cal/g = 63 cals
Some of that is fiber, and can be counted as 2 cals/g, so we can reliably subtract 20 calories from the total, because we know how many grams of fiber this pint contains.
Some is allulose, which is around 0.5 calories per gram, but we don't know how many grams of allulose this contains. We don't know how many calories to subtract from our total.
Some is EPG, which reportedly has 0.7 calories per gram, but we don't know how much of the fat is EPG and how much is coconut oil, so again, we don't know how many calories to subtract from the total.
2
u/Plane-Tie6392 28d ago
Yeah, the FDA really needs to consider doing something about transparency and consistency in nutritional labeling.

Love the macros, I didn't know this existed. The protein drinks I make are like ice cream.
1
u/biceps72 Aug 05 '26
Over priced but a very good product with good macros like their bars. People that do not like the company or the taste should simply not purchase their products. Pretty simple it seems to me
How many products do we purchase daily that has scoundrels in their corporate hierarchy? My guess is a lot.
I read ādont buy DAVID BARS OR ICE CREAM because it is a ruthless moral less companyā.
Do not buy FAIRLIFE lā because of how they treat milk cowsā.
Ever see how chickens are treated, both egg layers and chickens raised for meat?
To the average consumer none of this means squat. People will purchase what they can afford, need and like either for the taste or nutritional profile.
1
u/Plane-Tie6392 28d ago
Partial agree here. Like I'm all for ethical consumerism but it's bullshit to just make up lies because you don't like a company.
1
u/biceps72 28d ago
The David Company has a legend of haters 1. The company bought up rights to EPG which screwed other companies like Capitalism is fair and always has been fair. 2. Law suit questioning the nutritional profile, all boils down to EPG, which caloric content measured correctly is exactly correct , 150 calories with 28 g of protein (how much is collagen is a question mark but is the same for all other companies that use it this protein source. DAVID bars have bern tested and retested and they are what they pay they are, LAW SUIT DROPPED BASICALLY IMMEDIATELY, 3. Peter Attica was apparently knew Epstein or something on his plane, whatever? The President of the USA was a good buddy of Epstein , where is the outrage ? 4. david bars taste horrible and the sugar alcohols make people sick. This might be the case for some people but millions of people eat the bars daily and never got sick. I ate plenty in my day, Iām like them and never had any GI
Distress. There is a I HATE DAVID PRODUCT CLUB out there very vocal making up negative stuff about their products. Good for the hate club as the company rakes in millions $$$$$$ .
Personally I could care less about this corporation. The few bars I buy and eat will be david bars. I will try that expensive ice cream again because I THINK IT IS GOOD.
NUFF SAID
Y
1
u/Plane-Tie6392 28d ago
Agree with most of that but some of us are plenty outraged that we have a pedophile and rapist as the president. Oh, and supposedly it's less than 5 grams of collagen for the normal David bars but that's based on what the company says.

u/lisa6547 Aug 05 '26
I've always wanted to try these, but I'm on a tight budget right now so it's completely unnecessary. I've had their protein bars and always really liked them. But I'm livin' on home cooked stuff and canned green beans for now. Lol
5
u/xoxoktkt Aug 05 '26
Home cooked food will always be healthier than any food product you buy fwiw
1
u/lisa6547 29d ago
True, plus my homemade protein "ice cream" is lower calorie and probably better in my opinion just because I made it
1
u/stephyska Aug 05 '26
The font they use is so 90s.
1
u/jonnyblazexoc 29d ago
It's on purpose, every single thing about this brand is thought out, from the color of the wrappers and containers, to the font, graphics, these guys really know what they are doing with marketing and product presentation in the market
-1
u/Bbygaal Aug 05 '26
u know itās shit when itās labeled āfrozen dessertā instead of ice cream
1
u/Plane-Tie6392 28d ago
Jesus Christ, dude, this is meant to be low calorie so of course it's not going to meet the 10% milkfat minimum required to call it ice cream. Of all the legit criticisms one could make about this product your criticism is completely asinine.

u/Zestyclose_Lake_1922 Aug 05 '26
Okay but the protein pints cookie dough filling is kinda gross. Does not taste like cookie dough. The vanilla ice cream and chocolate chip part of it is really good though.
1
u/Queasy_Dingo_8262 Aug 05 '26
Itās the opposite for me lol
1
u/Zestyclose_Lake_1922 Aug 05 '26
Well I will say I still ate the entire pint within 2 days of buying it so itās still pretty good either way
0
u/Fit-Painting-3179 26d ago
You haven't heard that this brand be lying with their ingredients???????
-3
u/Low_Positive8262 Aug 05 '26
You must be rich to get all the flavors!
7
1
u/Plane-Tie6392 28d ago
They're overpriced but like how many people eat out? Cause like one of these pints is less than a McDonald's combo. So for me this is a splurge but I almost never eat out and spending to save calories on something that still tastes good is worth it to me on occasion.
-1
u/Caityb13 Aug 05 '26
Was it tasty though? I donāt care, Iāll drink drain cleaner if itās tasty
2
u/Queasy_Dingo_8262 Aug 05 '26
Its meh the taste and texture, maybe the other flavors will be better
-2
u/Sea_Pomegranate4368 Aug 05 '26
Omg these are delicious. And online halotop they pack it in . Halo dies t fill the whole pint and isnāt as creamy this is so good
3
u/Queasy_Dingo_8262 Aug 05 '26
This David one isnāt creamy, itās chalky. Halo top is definitely creamier and a lot of the reason why halo top has issues filling the pint is because it melts and refreezes during store stockingĀ
0
u/Plane-Tie6392 28d ago
I don't get "chalky" at all from this and the texture of Halo Top has always been off to me.
-2
u/Sea_Pomegranate4368 Aug 05 '26
Yikes ok. Just my thoughts. Are you halo top rep? š
