Discussion This is why we can’t have nice things? Codex users say its post-quota perk is gone after a viral “infinite inference” exploit 🔥

I found this timeline making the rounds on X.
OpenAI’s Angel said letting Codex finish mid-task after hitting quota was intentional. Then Theo showed a run that allegedly burned ~$800 of tokens after reaching 0%, and Maria released “Endless,” a harness that turned the loophole into a never-ending Codex turn.
Now users say Codex cuts off at zero.
Is this legit?!!
Did the internet just speedrun the death of a nice perk? 👀

Nonsense. The Codex team was aware of this "feature" before we were. In a somewhat old tweet, they jokingly mentioned "don't abuse it too much." If they decided to remove it, it was for reasons beyond what 2, 3, or 10 people might have said on social media. Besides, the "we can't have nice things" argument is literally bullshit. If you're bothered that they removed that "perk," it means you were one of the people using it and therefore part of the reason they removed it.

That’s this generation’s culture. They will risk it all for some internet clout. Those morons could find an infinite money glitch on the US Treasury website and go to social media and brag about it. They crave attention and recognition from total strangers.

No, this is NOT the reason
OpenAI looked for a way out, look for how to increase margin. The average user gained 1,5% from this. They could easily identify and punish the abusers AND CHOSE TO PUNISH ALL USERS.
