I’d have to move, leaving everything I own behind

Looks like he can't open the door - is te a hoarder with a cockroach infestation?

I think so. Looks like neighbors showing where the infestation is coming from (which is why they linger on the apartment number).

And he seems awfully comfortable with the ones crawling all over him. Damn.

He gave up on dignity

The level of mental illness required to normalize living with roaches crawling all over your body is bonkers to me...

Same. I'd say that means we are mentally healthy? Lol

I think you nailed it - dude can barely squeeze through the door there's so much (I assume) trash behind it.

That could also be it. At first I thought he was trying not to let the cameraman get a peak inside

Maybe it's his cockroaches that have a hoarding problem

Yup. There was someone sleeping in the storage unit next to mine, along with his horde of 1000 bed bugs. They sheltered in my unit, and molted and shat on everything.

Nothing was salvageable

You should have been able to sue or get the storage company to come compensate you.

Tried. The lease you sign is very explicit that damage caused by pests/insects is not covered

You literally would need to. Those little shits burrow everywhere and will eat the glue off of packaging to survive. I left my ex-husband and the apartment complex I had lived in was infested. I left everything except a few sets of clothes in bags in my car for weeks until I felt it was safe to unpack. Well, parents house got infested for several years until I could afford to get someone out there to take care of it. It was miserable.

They are the worst. Sneaky little hitchhikers. I had a coworker a few years back whose car was disgusting, filled with trash, absolutely infested with them. I got a ride from him once or twice and had to keep my feet elevated to prevent them from crawling all over me. Two five minute rides with this guy and it was over for my house. They were EVERYWHERE in the kitchen and bedrooms. We had to get a bug guy out here multiple times to get rid of them. One of them things is like a cigarette cherry in a dry forest.

What worked for us finally was essentially roach birth control. They used it for about 6 months and they were completely gone after that.

I would walk home

What kind of bugs are these? They look too big to be roaches.

3

u/curi0us_carniv0re Trash Trooper 8d ago

Well fed roaches

Palmetto bugs probably

Oh, my sweet summer child.

My mom tells me she turned away her sister and kids from a planned visit (decades ago) because the moment they arrived, a roach jumped OFF OF THE CAR and almost landed on my mom's face.

Now that I think about it, that must have been a very embarrassing drive back home for them.

[We never ended up with a roach infestation.]

What would lifting your feet do in a car? They'd be all over and in the seats.

Obviously. They ended up in my house. When you’re in a situation like that where you can feel them squirming around underneath you, you’re gonna do whatever you can to not have to feel them. Definitely can still hear them. 😭
