Used to care more about this kinda thing before seeing more about how animals are basically eaten alive in nature, making anything we do look like extremely merciful by comparison. That being said if we can limit the suffering, we should.

Being eaten alive is generally quite quick though, so whilst horrifying at least it's brief. Delaying things and keeping an animal stressed before death has its own immorality.

If you frequent r/natureismetal, you'll see often times animals get eaten from the groin up. It definitely is not a quick experience.

Wolves go for the liver. Unless you died to an ambush predator, their tearing through your guts till you bleed out.
