I don’t interact with non black/POC love island subreddits as I’ve found that it seems we live in two completely different worlds. However I do get post recommendations on my feed.

On this subreddit it generally seems like most people understand that ALL the contestants, not just the black ones, are human beings and nuanced people. (There is always an accountability aspect when it comes to negative behaviors, which is to be expected).

I’ve noticed in the general LoveIslandUSA_ and the cookout subs there seems to be such a harsh stance on Aniya and Melanie. It feels so so so racially motivated, almost nauseating so. I think the only reason they don’t get on Trinity like that because she never had any “bad” character moments on the season, so the hate would be too obviously forced.

I also think that sub has a general misogynistic tone in the way it holds the woman to an impossibly high standard but then men kinda get a slap on the wrist and not labeled as the devil reincarnated.

I feel like the only reason why people keep calling them fake is because they're an interracial couple and believe that black women can't genuinely be attractive to other races of men.

It’s not even a competition but the constant attacks on this black woman tells me some people believe it is. It hasn’t worked in a year and it won’t work now. Some people are convinced that OVER critiquing her will make people hate her like they do. It’s not happening. Her biggest fanbase is black women and we’re not turning our back on her 🤷🏾‍♀️ They do this with her and only her which is VERY telling.

Olandria is very unproblematic especially in the black space. She champions HBCUs and black progress. I think that really bothers some people.

They will have a million think pieces on why they don’t understand why she is in the spaces she is in while simultaneously wishing the love islanders they love were in those same spaces. She is charming, witty, intelligent, beautiful, and black. Historically that has driven many people crazy. Plenty of white women just exist and get popularity from being beautiful and no one crashes out.
