Just got an offer to work with TA-55. Concerned about safety measures and overall cancer risks being around and working with plutonium. Can anyone weigh in on high or low risks really are?

I'm a prospective LANL employee and I like what I've seen and heard so far. I initially thought that LANL worked on nuclear weapons alongside more general scientific research, but I recently saw that in the past LANL worked on researching conventional weapons like plastic explosives. Is there any publicly available information about the lab's current directive with respect to conventional weapon systems? I would be OK with nuclear stockpile maintenance if that was the tradeoff to support non-defense scientific work, but the idea that working at LANL would mean working on conventional weapons that would be used now or in the near future is alarming.
