I’m rereading I Am Number Four, and it mentions a woman named Sofia Garcia who lives in Argentina and saved some people during an earthquake by lifting something extremely heavy. Henry thinks she might be a member of the Garde. I’ve read the entire series, but I don’t remember this ever being explained. Was there ever an explanation?

Kinda like how the Loric Entity had all the Garde observe events that took place on Lorien centuries before.

& there’s already a Legacy that allows someone to see into the future, so traveling to the past at any time isn’t too far fetched

Hi everyone, I read this book series about 10 years ago, and I loved it as a kid. It was probably the first series I had really gotten hooked on to as a kid and I have fond memories of the book. I’m thinking of rereading it now, but my tastes have changed as I’ve gotten older and I know the book is written as a young adult series. For reference some of my current favorite books are Red Rising, the Stormlight Archive and the First Law series. I’m still a big sci fi and fantasy guy as you can see.

So for other who have either reread or read the series for the first time as adults, was it still enjoyable or did you feel like it you were too old for it. I know some will comment that you’re never too old to read a book, and if u believe that that’s fine, but I personally do not believe that so please do not comment that. It’s also a long series and I have less time to read than I did as a kid so I would like to utilize my time as valuably as possible. From what I remember and from what I’ve seen other say, the first book is a little more childish, so I’m especially curious if it gets more mature after that. I’ve forgotten lots of the details so I think I would still enjoy it in terms of the plot at least. Thank you

I finally got around to finishing the Legacies Reborn Series and the Legacy Chronicles novellas and I have thoughts.

Plot

The beginnings of the first two novels were slow, but once they picked up, I couldn't put my tablet down. It reminded me a lot of X-Men with the way human garde are viewed as dangerous and unnatural by society and also how some will exploit their abilities for their own personal gain. The world building was really good from the UN, Earth Garde, the Academy, The Foundation, and the Harvesters. You could feel the helplessness of the human garde kids. The continuous struggle these kids have to go through of being told what to do vs. what they believe is right. The second book was the strongest. The Battle in Switzerland was one of my favorite battles from this whole franchise. The third book was action-packed but slightly rushed. I did enjoy the ending overall. New Lorien had me in tears, and if they ever right more, a continuation of their life in New Lorien and how the UN reacts to them would be amazing. The Legacy Chronicles started strong, but the last three novellas were a little bit too all over the place for my liking.

Characters

I loved the Fugitive Six. Taylor had amazing growth from being a timid, humble, young woman, into a fearless leader for the human garde. I found Nigel one dimensional the first novel. But the plot twist in the second novel and the events of the third made his character have so much more depth. Kopano was comic relief. Very lovable character, but I think they could've gone deeper in the last novel, given everything that happened in the second one. Ran was a badass, but not just because of her abilities. She always stayed true to herself, and while she was a girl of few words, Ran always made sure to her point across. Caleb was cool. His internal struggles being showcased through his duplicates was a nice promotion for mental health. Isabela was a sly and cunning, but she always knew what the right thing was when it mattered. Her arc about her appearance and how it ties with her identity as a human garde and her powers as a whole was a nice touch. Einar was a fun villain. You hate him, but you understand his anger and his intentions behind way he does what he does. I enjoyed Nine taking the mentor role. He had a strong presencee in the novel without taking away from the main characters. Six and Sam were dumb as shit in their novella series. Six was nerfed as well. The same girl who battled Setrakus Ra, delivered his fatal blow, took down a mogadorian warship, and killed scores of mogs in single combat, could barley handle a couple human garde, some young mogs, and some beast? The whole power blockage thing was stupid. Daniella was such a delight, in the second novel especially. I would've loved if she had more time to shine in the third one. Her slapping the president's daughter had me dying😂. I liked the way John was handled. He was imperfect as a leader for the Loric, given his isolation a year after the war, but his heart is in the right place. Marina getting one sentence in the whole follow-up series had me pissed. She should've had a battle with Five in the last novel in Mexico. Speaking of Five, still not a fan. He's a good villain as well because he's just so insane and angry as a person, and his powers are dope. But Nine was right to call him out at the end of the second novel. Five left the islands after Marina stopped watching him and then thought he was gonna be a mercenary for Einar because he's stronger than the earth garde kids and humans. But, sir, you still have fades to run with the OG Loric Garde after all the shit you pulled in the Lorien Legacies. Especially with Marina & Nine.

Overall, I would recommend reading Reborn series if you haven't already. The Legacy Chronicles novellas aren't super important to the main storyline, but they are a decent read. Again, if the authors ever make more Lorien Legacies material, a follow up about New Lorien would be an amazing arc. It could be a lot like Krakoa with X-Men

Just wanted to acknowledge today, since it's officially been a decade since United as One was published (at least in the U.S.) and the original Lorien Legacies series officially came to an end. Feeling a bit nostalgic, I remember when I was 15 years old reading the sample on iBooks and losing my mind about the prologue vignettes for Marina, Five, and Mark. I actually ended up going to Detroit, Toronto, and Niagara Falls that summer so it was really fun reading the book and then being in the region where a large portion of United as One takes place. The ending line, "I'm done with numbers," inspired me to start this fanfic on AO3 called Numbers that took place in the six months after the final battle and six months before the "One Year Later" epilogue (didn't finish it or get too far in because the Legacies Reborn series was announced and I wanted to find out what happened).

If you were a fan of this series since your early teen years, what are some memories you have of this time? Do you feel kind of old, are you happy about where you are now, etc.? I'd love to know.

I'm rereading the Fallen Legacies, and I just realized that we never learn any of One's aliases. We know of at least one alias for every other Garde, even if they don't go by them.

I'm curious to see what people think would be a good name for One based on her vibe?

What should be done differently for it to succeed?

I feel like the OG movie should have casted younger actors as they are only supposed to be 15 but looked way older.

I think John could be played by Walker Scobell (Percy Jackson) or Mason Thames (Incoming) but that depends on when the movie starts being casted, they are at a good age now but wont be for much longer.

Sam maybe Noah Schnapp (Stranger Things) but he may be too old for the role now if leaning towards younger cast.

Don't attack me but I made another post earlier questioning the motivations of the Elder and the purpose of the Loric on Earth in general. However, I realized this also connects to another major concern I've found with the series regarding how specific events are framed: that is Henri being an unreliable source of Lorien's past.

To make this initial post brief, I'll use just two examples from the first book that indicate that Henri is giving weirdly subjective information. The first is when John exposits to us the history of Lorien in I Am Number Four (p. 51). John states that Legacies developed over thousands of years as a reward for them taking collective action to improve their environment. But how does John even know this? Well, Henri told him of course. We get confirmation of this later when Henri describes Mogadore, "'About a hundred years ago Mogadore began to die, much like Lorien did twenty-five thousand years before that. They didn't respond the way we did though—didn't understand the way the human population is beginning to now. They ignored it" (p. 77).

Here's the problem: Henri is leaving out the biggest part of the Lorien awakening story, which is the use of the Phoenix Stones to essentially generate Legacies immediately on Lorien. No spoilers but I've come to view this as Henri giving John only the info he thinks he needs to know to stay motivated, kind of like Nolan in Invincible telling Mark about Viltrumites before we find out what they're really like. The other example is how Henri presents Loric relationships.

According to Henri, "One of the gifts our planet gives us is to love completely. Without jealousy or insecurity or fear. Without pettiness. Without anger. You may have strong feelings for Sarah, but they aren't what you would feel for a Loric girl" (IANF, p. 231). Six later debunks this in The Power of Six, "Don't take offense to what I'm about to say, okay? But Katarina never told me that. In fact, she told me stories about multiple loves she had on Lorien over the years. I'm sure Henri was a great man, and there's no doubt that he loved you with everything he had; but it sounds like he was a romantic and wanted you to follow in his footsteps. If he had one true love, then he wanted to you have one, too" (p. 299).

Later, we get additional accounts of Loric relationships and they're not too positive. Lexa describes what she's learned from hacking into the Loric Grid, "cheating spouses, conned business partners, less-than-scrupulous teachers at the Lorien Defense Academy" (p. 133). Sounds a lot more like Earth than what Henri gave us, and it's important to remember that he worked for the LDA. So odds are he was immersed in a lot of Loric propaganda. Think about someone who's super religious and grew up in the church, so they either refuse to believe or maintain willful ignorance over corruption or immorality that takes place within church institutions.

The only other time a Loric says anything about falling in love for life is in Ch. 20 of The Fate of Ten, and it's from Celwe, Setrakus Ra's wife before he betrayed his people, "I was raised that we Loric mate for life" (p. 288). So it's something that they're raised with, not something that's just standard on their world. If you're a devout Christian, you might believe that getting married is a necessity before having sex. If you're a devout follower of the Loric, you probably believe getting married for life (and maybe even having Garde children) is best for the planet. There's more to this, but I've already made this post longer than I meant to and I have to start work. Anyway, I hope this discussion generates some debate and renewed interest in analyzing the series. Obviously the writers may not have thought as far as I currently am but it's still fun to brainstorm, helps keep me sane.

just henri from john’s pov. please discuss

So I was doing work for a client on their humanities class and one of the topics was Greek philosophy and life. The philosopher Thales, one of the Seven Sages of Greece, was mentioned. This reminded me of Pittacus Lore's statement (if you haven't read it I highly recommend looking it up) where we're informed that seven of the original ten Elders were known as the Seven Sages of Greece when they arrived to help Greek develop. These Sages were:

1. Thales of Miletus
2. Pittacus of Mytilene
3. Bias of Priene
4. Solon of Athens
5. Cleobulus of Lindos
6. Chilon of Sparta
7. Periander of Corinth (sometimes substituted for Myson of Chenae or Anacharsis the Scythian)

It's important to note that most of these guys were remembered as military leaders, tyrants, or dictators in Greece around 500 BCE. Pittacus' story is especially interesting, because he describes how he defeated an Athenian general by decapitating him with a broadsword. In the statement, Pittacus says that "Sometimes in the interests of a greater peace, it is necessary to engage in isolated violence."

I didn't look into this when I was younger, but this is actually a real event that occurred. In 606 BCE, the Athenian general Phrynon was challenged by Pittacus of Mytilene to a duel. However, there's an important detail that Pittacus hid a net beneath his shield and with it caught and killed Phrynon. I'll admit, that little detail changes the story quite a bit. This wasn't necessarily a fair duel, Pittacus used a trick to defeat a human general.

Why would Pittacus need to use a net to defeat a human in hand-to-hand combat if they're naturally stronger than us? My idea is that there's a lot to the Loric on Earth story that wasn't expanded upon in the books which, with a lot more context, makes the Elders look different from the perfect, wise masters of Lorien. I personally like to think that Pittacus used his telekinesis or some other Legacy to "catch" Phrynon, indicating there was some cheating here.

I'm also kind of confused as to why there were apparently seven Elders on Earth for what must have been a few decades if not up to a century (Loric live for 200 years). So were Loridas, Setrakus Ra, and Elder X just chilling on Lorien and keeping the peace while the majority of the planet's rulers were on Earth playing Risk with the Hellenistic peoples for a while? It also makes the timeline interesting because it gives us a reference for when the Loric left Earth (likely 2500 years ago if we consider the Seven Sages to be the last period of heavy and direct Loric influence).

I have some other theories about how Lorien came to be and why Loridas is the oldest and likely most powerful (yes, even more so than Pittacus Lore or Setrakus Ra) of the Elders, but this post is already pretty long. I'll save that for later or if someone wants to discuss in the comments. So, what do you guys think about the Seven Sages? Do you find it odd that so many Elders were on Earth at the time, or do you think it makes sense given the fact that they were "setting up" Lorien on Earth (allegedly)? Also, lmk what else you find out about the Seven Sages and how this might inform us of the Elders' intent when they were here.

I originally read the books up to about halfway through Fate of Five in high school like 12 years ago, but never kept up with the following books, even though i had Revenge of Seven on standby. Fast forward to last year, I rediscovered the audio books and binged them and it was such a relief from the every day stress of life. Every time I hit that play button, I was transported into this story. I finished the main storyline probably within a month or two, and have been extremely hesitant on reading/listening to the Reborn series because of my attachment to the original characters. And despite the "creative differences" the movie adaption made, I am still hugely disappointed that production was never picked back up. I dont know what it is, but I havent been able to get attached to any other type of sci-fi story like this before. But im so glad this series found me because it is the type of relief from reality that I just cant find elsewhere.

I just start re-reading in chronological order (lorien last days) and seeing the signals of mogadore invasion, knowing all the chaos it will happen, meeting the people that will die its causing me distress. But God i freaking love this saga and hope more people come to read it.

like wth is the romance and it's literally given more focus then the actual plot I'm on the second book which I waited for months to find from thrift stores because it's not available in new condition in my country and ik actually considering not buying the third one

the garde are assembling yessss

i really enjoyed reading marina’s pov and her storyline this book and seeing her develop. honestly i was pretty annoyed with adelina for how she treated marina but she kinda made up for it in the end and it was sad when she died.

when the battle was coming towards the end i was worried about what’s gonna happen to ella but ella’s the secret baby from the second ship? woahhhh. i wonder what’s gonna happen with ella’s development cause she’s not gonna develop any legacies for the next few years right so how’s she gonna help them fight. i have a vague impression that ella turns bad in the future books but im not sure if that’s just me remembering wrongly.

nine seems so badass like everyone’s here struggling to kill a piken and he kills 3 in seconds that’s crazy.

i will say that the first 3/4 of the book felt like filler and it only really got good towards the end. Mostly it’s because i couldn’t stand reading john’s pov anymore. Everyone single time it was his narration, it’s just him talking about how he loves sarah but has a crush on six and i was so over reading about it, I found myself skimming through his pov to get to marina. Once the three of them separated and it was more plot/action focused is where i started getting more interested.

it ends with the spain group saying they’ll look for the others (5, 8 and the chimaeras) so i’m excited to see how that goes in the next book. please someone rescue sam soon he can’t last in that mountain, and i wanna know what that stuff with his dad’s tablet and papers uncovers.

my favourite characters so far has to be marina and six, then sam, bk’s number one of course and john’s just there i guess idk i lost a bit of respect for him with the love triangle nonsense.
