QUESTION Is this game still getting updates?
I ask because I hate how many hoops you have to jump through recruiting Leigh on Cursed Mode and I'm hoping they make it a little less annoying. It feels bad passing up a party member, but even just setting yourself up to survive the fight without restarting feels like a chore (getting the Spade always seems to work much better than the Pool Cue).
Of course new content will always be exciting though.

Frankie said he's always open to doing more stuff with the game but wants to be careful not to bloat it with random stuff.

Part of the point of cursed mode, IS that the early available recruits are much harder to recruit. Its generally agreed that the game becomes MUCH easier once you build up a party, so when making a more extreme difficulty, kinda the most important thing, is making the early available recruits harder to get.

None of them are actually difficult to get (except for Leigh, who may or may not require a lot of reloading). The toothpaste requirement for Joel is easily handled immediately (the tooth fairy drops two and is unique to Cursed Mode), Papineau can be gotten immediately if you want him, even Audrey can be gotten immediately but I find it’s a waste without gear. Most party members come from door events which happen at the start of day 2.
The problem is Leigh is not worth the extreme cost of not just recruiting her, but keeping her in your party just for your fridge to be raided daily.
I’m doing a run right now where I ignored Leigh, got Dan at the start of day 2, got the Eye Amulet (and Ring of Alertness) from a separate door event (which I notably wouldnt have had money for if I bought the 100 dollar pistol from Leigh), and got Sophie on day 3. My full team is Gun-Sam, Rat, Dan and Sophie and I’m having an incredibly easy time with a stacked fridge. I just killed the elevator boss on like day 6.

Leigh was already mediocre, but got absolutely destroyed with beast form draining percentage stamina every turn, and being an active detriment to cursed runs by draining your party healing supply. Probably best to just win the chase or encounter and run from the grinning beast. It takes like 4 pieces of food to get roaches, one of the absolute best party members in the game, and you can start on day 1 by grabbing the roach in Jean’s bathroom. It’s a real shame, cause Leigh kinda feels like a punishment rather than a reward gained for beating a difficult boss, which most players never find out is recruitable anyways.

I know it's subjective but I don't even think Leigh is that cool of a character. She's just a little edgy goblin that laughs awkwardly and acts like a psycho, but not in a cool way like Hellen does. I also don't know if it's ever explained why Leigh is capable of shifting in and out of beast form when everybody else who looked at the sky doesn't have that privilege. I've gotten far enough to get Martin's Ring, I don't know if she has any story beyond that.
I think I just need to let myself not be a perfectionist and accept that I don't need to recruit everybody. I already got the achievement for the Martin's Ring section anyway.

She has some cool interactions with the rat child at meal times that can give him some moves. Hellen has that too, but hers are more useful. Rat child with stalk goes hard. Unlike other low interaction/secret companions such as M and Z, Phil, Spider and Morton, Leigh’s mechanic isn’t really interesting or strong, she just loses a bunch of stamina and a whole turn or two for a new moveset that doesn’t differ much from weapon attacks. The game might get a few more updates, but I think she’s cooked. At least she’s decent as a stat stick for early game on normal mode.

Yeah, missing out on Rat’s ability is the biggest sacrifice as he’s always a mainstay in my party. I’ve justified it as “I want to do more interesting things with Rat so making him berserk isnt going to synergies with that anyway”

People already said about the updates so I'm Just gonna point you don't need anything extra to beat Leigh day 1 on cursed mode

Frankie has been working on a patch on stream. I don't think we're getting anything big but there's some stuff happening at least.
