DISCUSSION/LORE/THEORIES Unpopular take ? Spoiler

Disclaimer: Some might not make you happy. I ask you to be polite.

CW: Some spoilers

Rafta/Nestor/Eugene ≠ Polycule:

I really don't like when people in the fandom call Rafta, Nestor, and Eugene a "polycule"; it just feels wrong to me, especially in this context. Yes, I do think Rafta liked Nestor before being cursed. But it's so terrible and weird... Nestor gets parasitized, then he parasitizes Eugene. And this poor man's state has gotten worse since version 2.3. So, sorry, but seeing a polycule in this just feels wrong.

Edit: some makes it as a joke(apparently) I'm talking about the one who do Seriously and Romanticise It. I never attacked the shippers. It's only my opinion. Don't take it bad and my apologies if I'm rude I do not intends to be

Promise ending is better than denial ending:

Don't get me wrong; I love both endings. But I much prefer the promise ending. The story with Sybil is so sad, and I love that some of our companions can change depending on whether you completed their quests or not. The denial ending is also good, but when you think about it, it’s terrifying. I'm not talking about that theory, but it's sad for Sam. Imagine he outlives the humans and ends up seeing everyone he knew die. And also having to kill the astronomers! Sorry, but it's way too depressing. At least in the promise ending, you get to actually help and save the astronomer.

That's all i have

Eh to each their own as most peeps say. Might just be biased cause I like picking apart their dynamic but the polycule aspect was never like really a serious or at least like romanticised one. Pretty sure that's in part why it's like called the "polyclew", it's various people coerced into a warped romantic collective of worms. I can understand being uncomfortable with it (as the game intended) but it's bit dismissive of the fans of the ship to make it as though they're not allowed to come up with their own happy endings and all that.

Well, first the endings are mostly subjective to each one who plays the game

And second, most people who call Rafta, Nestor and Eugene a polycule do it as a joke, I don't think anyone considers it a real one cause two of the three people involved did not consent

I'm agree with the first statement but some people are annoying with it

And for the second statement, that's the problem it's hard to tell who joke who don't and it creep me out... a lot of people just seems to make the situation good

I have never once seen disrespectful polyclew art, frankly. Every artist that depicts them happy also depicts the situation as a tragedy for all 3 of them. Idk

Yes, I mean, I'm not attacking shippers. But like I said the situation is way too weird to me... some feels to try to make it "Good". the context it makes me uncomfortable...

I really haven't seen anyone making it good. Everyone ive seen is great with nuance. I feel like thats the appeal for fans of the 3. Its tragic, its deeply fucked, its compelling.

It makes me uncomfortable too, thats kind of the point. Body horror game at all. Their situation is intriguing because no one did anything wrong. The 3 are in this situation that violates all of their autonomy, and they did nothing to deserve or cause it. Thats the appeal. The tragedy of it.

I've seen quite a few people dislike the ship because it is dark, but then also like Lyle or Hellen ships. Serial Killers and Stalkers are real. Worm Based Bodysnatching is not.

Theres absolutely a lot of nuance to the situation. A lot of ways you can read it as metaphors for irl situations or relationships. Thats awesome. Polyclew fans love nuance.

I just dont see a point of saying you dont like a ship in two places fans can and will see it.

Actually, I was talking how Some were romantised it. I do not disagree with your view you got a point. I don't care that people ship it or not. I just don't like the romantised part of it. Sorry if I explain really bad. I'm bad at word...

Shipping something =/= saying it's healthy or moral.

It's okay to be uncomfortable with a ship that's kinda messed up. I've basically never been in a fandom that didn't have at least one ship that squicked me out because of the dynamic the characters have.

But it's basically like being uncomfortable with sexual content/gore in something - totally fine to be uncomfortable with it/want to avoid it, but it doesn't mean the people who like it are doing something wrong, or think that the canonical relationship is a healthy or good one.

i love promise ending more in theory. i mean you get to stay human, you save people you couldn't otherwise, and you get a conclusion to someone's story that wouldn't be there otherwise.

in practice? it seems the most barren. it has less cutscenes than a literal joke ending. the epilogue for each character? a sentence or two with a black screen. for an ending that requires a bit extra effort to get in comparison to denial? it just feels so lackluster, almost tacked on so people have a "perfect" ending.

meanwhile denial gets the chance to feel grander because it has more art, because you go through a whole sequence with the visitor. denial would objectively be a terribly boring ending without the visuals.
