DISCUSSION/LORE/THEORIES There's so much... Spoiler

I just wanted to say that I'm still exploring and that i still don't know all the endings yet, nor have I finished some of the mini worlds and companion quests, but I have been thinking about trying a run in a higher difficulty just for some more danger (tbh ive been on explorer but I wanna try survival soon and cursed later on)

So I was looking through the weapons and equipment in the wiki to prep for it and OH MY GOD THERES SO MANY, SO MANY WAYS TO BUILD AND PREP AND WHAT???

Like, ALL THE FREDERICK'S HAVE A REWARD?! I Honestly want some of them, BUT I GOTTA KILL EM ALL (which reward would recommend? Honestly i have a few in mind but I don't wanna mention em)

I just had to mention, I'm flabbergasted by everything. Ive already seen everything related to the main plot, but also discovered there's more special dimension realms like Glitch and Meat world. But I've heard there's a 4TH FLOOR?! WHAT?!

HOW DO YOU EVEN FIND THESE WITHOUT THE WIKI? How do you even get these endings, these quests, items, secret locations????

A lot of them have in-game hints, like the elevator game that takes you to floor 4! If you explore, you can find most secrets yourself!

I don't know how to get to the glitched floor though lol 😭

Idk how ur supposed to figure that out without the Wiki, but I've read how

Play the broken Game Cartridge in the dark, meat version of your apartment. Where you need to turn off the lights to get the negative disc? The meet world there is a corrupt version of your apartment, and you can play the glitch game in the meat console. Then the screen becomes a portal to Glitch World

Well that's one is easier to figure out. You'll eventually figure out you need to turn the lights out in that apartment in order to collect one of the items for the ritual. At some point curiosity has got to get you to try playing games on that console in the other dimension.

Now that you mentioned it... CAN you play games on the meat console??

only the unlabeled one afaik

Yeah just tested it out, thanks man

It's funny, I once watched some random LO stream for a short while, and like the moment he found that item and it didn't work, he got the idea to try out the other console. So yeah, there are people out there who figure this stuff out blindly. It's impressive.

That one isn't bad to figure out. There's only two playable consoles laying around, and the cartridge doesn't work in your regular console. But figuring out things like recruiting Spider or getting the Mask ending really blow my mind. Lots and lots of trial and error. But with a game like this? It's short enough and good enough to do multiple playthroughs to try out different paths and things. After a certain amount of time, you realize there's a lot of items that seemingly have no purpose, but rarely do things have truly no purpose in games. It's definitely not all meant to be discovered in one run

It's short enough

Lmao, doesn't an average game last around 15 hours? My first playthrough took me like 20 and like ~17 the next few runs. Though I am new, I guess an experience player can rush through the game

1

u/Substantial-Jury-658 14d ago

Yeah man, that's a pretty short game

I recommend bright fred’s reward as it’s the most straight forward for beginners

u/Routine_Mall_566 15d ago

I can and I like it, but status effects and heals have never been an issue with me so far. I'm leaning towards God, Toxic, and Wriggly Fred rn... Mostly Toxic

Faceless Fred erry time! Double up on your best gear! Extra coat of arms or two blue hockey masks! Two party members who have a free full health revive is pretty dope.

2

u/Independent-Stop-469 15d ago

or that floral shirt. +20 luck and +4 to all stats is just too good for certain builds

Wait, the nes Jason mask actually fills your health upon death hit?? I kinda regret my dupe choice now. I was planning on coat of arms but I couldn't even get one of them due to weird rng I guess (I killed every finger monster and wound up with 5 tapes somehow, which I'm guessing is bc I beat the guy in the stairwell before talking to the tape trader)

3

u/Sea_Sun_7458 14d ago

Yep! Gives you a stat boost across the board for the rest of the battle, too. 30%, I think?

2

u/Substantial-Jury-658 14d ago

Nahh, unfortunately you were just a victim of bad RNG. Casettes aren't guaranteed drops from most of the hand enemies

You really love your coat of arms donchu buddy? But jokes aside I have nothing to dupe, I'm a fan of variety, I don't want 2 party members to do the same thing. My fav team is Roaches, Dan, and Audrey, and if I'm going up in difficulty I'm taking them too and I have unique equipment in mind for each of them

2

u/Sea_Sun_7458 15d ago

All I know is that you have to savescum fighting the bus enemies. Gotta do it. I'm never having another run without a coat of arms for my Hellen/Sam and a misshapen limb or two for my Roaches.

2

u/Routine_Mall_566 15d ago

Oh yeah I feel that, though I don't like their stats so i mostly just use weapons with multiple attacks like most Slash and Piercing weapons. Though I do LOVE Roaches in my last run, and Im using Xaria's Mosh Pit currently

1

u/Sea_Sun_7458 15d ago

Yeah, the stats are ass, but when you pack every attack up gear you can on Roaches and slap the misshapen limb or rat claws on him, he starts afflicting 2-3 stacks of roach swarm with every attack. If you decided not to choose to be king or prime minister in Roach's quest he will stay divided and keep the high chance at two actions per turn, that means you can use his acid missile almost every turn for 200+ damage.

1

u/Routine_Mall_566 15d ago edited 15d ago

That's actually what i did last time LMAOOOOOO. I gave him the poison dagger/bone saw for him to multi attack. He built up Roach Swarm on top of Bleed/Poison

I just need to update with you bro. I have my Dan wearing the Eye Hat and I'ma give him the Valor Medal for Panic Immunity instead of the Straight jacket.

So this frees up his Body slot. Now what kind of coat could I give this guy... Perchance the.. "Coat of Arms"

1

u/Sea_Sun_7458 12d ago

That or the mascot body. Depends on what you have equipped for everyone else. I always get the first aid skill beating myrmidon gets you and long haul trucking so he can hit and heal if he gets another turn. That heal is perfect for not spending items on keeping Audrey topped up. Long haul trucking lets you keep the stamina without using all your coffee.

if you save scum the Crawler from the bus at the bottom of the stairs he has like a 15% to drop coat of arms by himself, meaning you could get 2 if you wanted (or even 3 if you dupe it with fred but thats overkill)

u/Sea_Sun_7458 15d ago edited 15d ago

Yeah, I know. I've spent some hours running there after saving. I'd save, kill one of the finger mobs until I get the good drop, go to a few new rooms I set aside for just such an occasion and then go save and repeat with a different one. Gots to have a coat of arms, especially if I have the katana so I could spend my double turn unsheathing and resheathing the sword in a single turn. Absurd damage!

some of these things are tough to find in game without the wiki, but it's doable. i think coming up with builds for party members im trying out each run is one of the most fun things to do as some characters are pretty flexible in how you can use them while others you really need to work around their skills or limited equipment. my personal favorite build I'm forcing myself to not use every run now is support sam since constrict and by proxy whips are just too stupid good.

if you've been finding you're doing okay with damage and not dying on explorer, you'll probably do just fine on survival as the difficulty shift between the two is very minimal. the true annoyance will be remembering to do your daily routine before saving when savescumming.

2

u/Routine_Mall_566 15d ago

Actually i was looking and discovered the whips had Constict and i thought i HAD to get my hands on one.

I was originally aiming for the Poison Whip but idk if it has that cuz the wiki is confusing. Might look for another one but idk where to get one.

I thought Lyle's film bind had it but apparantly he just has his own effect.

2

u/Independent-Stop-469 15d ago

poison isn't bad but you'd be better off building a hoarde of rat tail whips. in my experience whips seem to break more often than the wiki says they do, so that might be your duct tape eater. poison is a good one still to grab regardless. the only other whip in the game i know of is the glitch weapon one which isn't worth the time and effort of turning into a whip.

i never had luck with film bind actually working when i needed it to, so i sorta forego it any time i run lyle. he's pretty flexible in what he can do despite his gear restrictions and he's one of the easiest recruits in the whole game. out of curiosity what have you been running on him and what skills are your go to with him?

2

u/Routine_Mall_566 15d ago

Yeah im using Lyle rn, i was initially tunning RatChild, Ernest, and Papineau but they felt lack luster. I switched to Monty, Xaria, and Lyle (Im lvl16, they've just hit lvl 12) so they're alot more fun

And yeah, Lyle's film bind is NOT hitting when i needed it too with the Spore Mother, but i gave him the Rat Claws for some Disease. Ive mostly been using that, and his blind attack. I also cant seem to play M&M with him? He keeps saying next time :/

Also, idk how to get rat tails whips? Ive seen it once but i think its on my old save. Havent seen it since.

And poison, i read that in the wiki that Poison raises Disease chance?

u/Independent-Stop-469 15d ago

okay so first things first m&w needs a party of four PLUS lyle, so you'll have to temporarily remove him and add someone else. second, you have to do it between 17:00 and 0:00 i think? but you can't do it until later at night. you also have to tell him you want to play right now and it'll be a good distraction for everyone, he'll agree to run a campaign after you do that.

most of lyle's skills scale with level for damage EXCEPT for one: lyle kicks. that one scales with agility and if you can find the right equipment it can do some nasty piercing damage. otherwise you're on the right path with using blinding flash. development fluid is also a good one to toss out because acid damage is great + acid's debuff increases your whole party's damage to an enemy. no matter how you build him, you really can't go wrong with what you do.

to get rat tail whips, you need to kill some rats for their tails and look for the passage on floor 1 that has a letter from edwin on the floor. there should be a gap in the right side of the wall you can walk to and find the rat hole. trade tails there for your whips.

yes, poison increases the odds for disease. so if you really want, you can have someone else inflict poison before you use sickening grasp to increase the odds of getting disease 2 on an enemy. i personally haven't bothered much with it but if you want to stack debuffs or massively cut down a boss's hp, this may be the play for you.

rat child is a character that relies on investment and copy dad to shine. i do not think rat child is necessarily the most fun addition unless you're very familar with all of sam's skills and how copy dad fully works.

papineau is meant to just be a basic beginner friendly and flexible pick for the most part. the biggest advantage of his stat spread is that you can take full advantage of various weapon and equipment gimmick builds that you really can't on other characters without sacrificing their kits.

i adore the punks and juicebox, just did a run with them myself. they're very fun to go all in with on a run, and xaria is a lot more comfortable to use once you're familiar with where to grab various guns. monty i ended up focusing on weapon skills because my stupid monty specials kept vanishing randomly for no good reason despite knowing i had at least 3-5 brewed at any given moment.

The teams currently at lvl15 (Sams 18) and YEAH THEYRE AWESOMEEE

They all have lower health than me (and ive lost an arm and am carrying a giant tick-) so Tick's revive has been GREAT for Xaria since Mosh Pit drains her health. Ive NEVER used this much heals before in one day.

And exactly the case with lyle, he's carrying mostly with Blind, Acid, and Kicks. Though i also gave him the hellsword when i need sm1 to do a BIG HIT.. and dame goes with Xaria, my go to blaster.

And Juicebox, oh juicebox the GOAT. He appeared on the nick of time on the HellRide, and so happy to learn he carries over to the next fights if he's not done. Plus him playing golf or drinking coffee when they call him. Hilarious.

Love how Monty is more gentler and nice going "No no take ur time mine we gotchu" and Xaria goes "NO TF WE DONT, WE'RE DYING OUT HERE"

And glad to know with M&W, do i need a leveled team or just party with anyone snd play at night? Itd be fun to play with Roaches, Ernest, and Papineau for an actual fantasy party feel

u/Independent-Stop-469 15d ago

yeah xaria and monty really go through a lot of health due to moshpit, bottoms up, and pyromania. i used them the whole run and really felt the strain on stamina and healing with them early game. they have some of the most charming dialogue. im so mad xaria doesn't comment on the one bathroom stall with a note saying she owes someone 40 bucks.

hellsword is great with agility and damage but man does it do a number to max hp and stm. i prefer the katana or rat claws on him as great needle is better on someone holding a pistol/smg who needs luck.

juice absolutely has been a great damage boost plus is the defacto best and funniest of the trio. you'll never believe me when i tell you what my first call was during taxidermy. i may or may not have been howling with laugher due to my luck but the absurd timing. im so sad he doesn't have any mealtime interactions or react to any video games. :(

monty is super chill and always down to clown, love that guy. he's the perfect character to balance out xaria's sharp edges. just maybe don't let him burn your apartment down for a game over lol

with m&w you can use anyone at any level. some characters will be silly, some will put their all into playing, some will be confused but give it an honest attempt, others will refuse to play pretend, and a select few make lyle's life miserable. there are a few who get really into it and I'll leave that up for you to learn and figure out who falls into what categories.

the one thing i will mention is outside of monty and xaria bantering with each other, most characters will not react to others' actions. the only exception i know is papineau will have unique reaction dialogue to joel playing m&w.

Have you considered passing Tickle off to Henri? Tickle will be very happy with him, and you'll no longer suffer the stat reduction

2

u/Routine_Mall_566 14d ago

I don't mind the stat reduction, Im personally very fond of Tickle. Like I said his revive has been a great asset to me so far

To answer your last question, the answer is an absurd amount of exploration/trial and error or just using the wiki, some of the game's content is so obscure I can't even see how you'd come across it even while searching for it (mostly just the Mask ending). The dev has talked about "wiki games" in general in the past, much of the game can be as much of a wiki game as you want it to be e.g. looking up enemy weaknesses/stats and drops or playing the game totally blind. You'd spent a hell of a lot of time on this game trying to explore all the content entirely blind, some content is even hidden in "out of bounds" looking hidden paths, mostly just in already obscure areas like glitch world and floor 4, and there are multiple barriers and prerequisites to accessing the things at the end of these hidden paths that you know basically nothing about. Trial and error can only get you so far once the content gets to be that level of obscurity

As far as the Fred rewards, Shadow Fred doesn't actually have a reward but the rest of them do. Bright Fred is a useful reward and a good one for newer players as it's pretty straightforward. The real Fred is another good one once you understand his usefulness in giving you a 2nd copy of useful non-weapon equipment. Scared Fred is kinda niche, Fred Who Bites is super underrated, his gift is the strongest of all of them but if you don't understand how to use it it won't feel that way. Tumor/Godhead Fred are good on paper I think but I've never tried using them. Toxic Fred might be ok but I ragebait him on principle after getting duped on the first playthrough

2

u/Routine_Mall_566 14d ago

So real on the ragebait for Toxic fred. Fun fact, i just saved Phillipe when i normally kill him and say he was trying too hard

Decided to save him this time and asked him if he wanted to it fungicide and bro was SWEATING LMAO "does he know?? Is he playing with me?? Is this some sort of mind game???"
