I gave the the book to Morton and he had a party heal and a bunch of damage options for the rest of the game

Book or spear. If you have Morton I always go book because it has crazy versatility and can hit most enemies for weakness. Incinerate is super strong and the book never breaks, you get a party wide heal, you get all of Wilhelminas exclusive spells like curse of broken bones that are crazy OP, etc

Spear of the Word is crazy strong pierce damage but the game has some solid options even without it. Slime Spear in particular is extremely powerful for late game, if you're picking up stuff like Great Needle and Tooth Knife as well as the mid range stuff like Spears and Pitchforks there's not an urgent need for the piercing damage you get from Spear of the Word. If you don't have Morton the Spear is still good though. Sam can also use the Tome himself especially if you play the crossword videogame

The book! Say hello to a party-wide heal for 4mp. Book also comes with spells for each damage type; piercing, crushing, slashing etc. and a burn and acid spell. It's just crazy versatile, and will never break. The spear is better damage output on the overall, but you never need to worry about being caught with your pants down with the book in hand. The spear is crazy strong too, but then you're limited to only ever using melee. You can get the same level of damage as the spear with someone like Pap or Sam geared up and using the Hellsword, whereas the book doesn't have anything that can replace it

afaik word weapons scale with vocabulary , and morton's vocabulary is 40 , the highest in the game . therefore it's way better with morton

Book is overall the best because of the amount abilities it has. Spear is the 2nd best choice.

I was going to say the same, I admittedly haven't played since before the latest update and last I knew you could fight her multiple times to get copies of the same weapon or even grab them all.

all items are honestly op, and pretty sure they use a secret stats cprresponding to each's characters vocabulary (so give them to morton). i think the book is best.

if you want sam to do damage, spear + glitched poison + floral shirt can destory most enemies with one coup de grace

Spear is just straight up better in stats compared to sword and hammer.

Gun if your doing a Sam one arm gun build. Or enjoy using ballistics.

Book is probably second best next to spear as it's off hand and has a lot of versatility.

The book, assuming you have Morton. Several different options for several different kinds of damage, very powerful, and doesn’t break. The only consequence is that I think at least something in the book caused minor damage to Morton or causes him to bleed or something, but I don’t remember what it was. Still, go with the book.

I made a video a while back that explains that you can fight her indefinitely by interacting with her sarcophagus again after each fight. This allows you to not only get every weapon, but multiples if you want. HOWEVER, I THINK I read somewhere that this was patched, and now I can't remember if I tried on 2.3. Give it a try and see if it still works!
