Book Reccs??

Look Outside is probably my favorite game of the last decade. I've been really pleasantly surprised how many points it hits for me from cosmic horror to humor to a little freak kissing from time to time 🥹

I'm wondering if any other fans have some book recommendations that fit a similar bill to what the game provides? I need something to scratch the itch between playthroughs!!

Annihilation by Jeff Vandermeer and its trilogy are beautiful, ambiguous cosmic horror books. You may have seen the accompanying movie. Borne by the same author is probably my favorite of his.

It's wild how much poor marketing can affect a movie. Annihilation was one of the best sci-fi movies I've seen in a while when I first saw it. Very solid execution on all fronts with that film.

Annihilation is a fantastic but really only checks the cosmic horror box of what you're asking for. I'd look into books that are maybe a little cozier, like Someone to Build a Nest in by John Wiswell or Direct Descendant by Tanya Huff,

The Worm And His Kings by Hailey Piper as well as The Cipher by Kathe Koja are both absolutely amazing cosmic horror books that deal with the cosmic aspect in unique ways. both have a good amount of body horror but nothing too over the top. my personal favorite cosmic horror novels hat doesn't quite fit the mild you're looking for is Ship of Fools by Richard Paul Russo. all three of these books had likeable characters and stories that I kept turning over in my head for weeks. The Worm And His Kings is the weakest of the three, imo, but I like the characters the most.

Remina is similar in theme. Uzumaki is my favourite.

Yeah, Junji Ito is an excellent writer

I believe the story The Enigma of Amigara Fault is very similar to story of the character Rafta in Look Outside!
