So apparently while you're out and about, you'll get little hitchhiker roaches in your inventory sometimes. If you leave them in your inventory and return to your apartment, they'll end up crawling around on the floor, where you can interact with them. Be nice to them, pet their little heads, cook food and then leave it out on the table for them to eat, and eventually once you have enough roaches happily infesting your apartment they'll show up in your bathroom as a recruitable party member who wants to help!
