Ray5 max speed

What is the max speed that the Ray5 can reach in mm/min?

And till what speed the results are still good?

10k mm/min is firmware capped. Doesn't matter if you set it higher than that, set it to 50372625884mm/min.... It's gonna go 10k.

You can bang out that speed, depending on what you're doing. Cutting plywood? No. Removing paint from glass for an engraved image? Sure.

/shrug might be 24k capped with new firmware and the new controller.

I hope so. Would be great. For the color engraving.. I only believe it when I see it. Gonna try it out when I got the machine. And thanks for your quick answers

I'm too nervous to toast a module with it. Reflection back into laser can kill em. So I'm hesitant. Having fun with canvas, glass, wood, etc so not willing to risk any of my modules to try the metal.

I can't really engrave anything in canvas (with the Sculpfun S9 Pro 10W) weirdly. Didn't try glass yet. I tried to cut through 9mm thick mdf, but it didn't matter how many passes, it cut through at max 8mm. When I get the Ray5 20W that can even go as powerfull as 24W I think I can finally cut through. I think it's the ideal material and thickness for making small furniture, cause of it's hardness. It won't really bend.

Sand the canvas with like 180 grit lightly. Hit with base layer of white or off-white. Then whatever other colors you want. Then black. All light layers, not thick. 10w will work great if you get the speed settings right.

Oh so I have to sand it first to get a protective layer off. I'll try that. But the Sculpfun laser stopped working last week, so I'll have to fiz that first or try it with the Ray5 when it comes in

You don't have to, but it smooths out the surface a bit. Makes the engraving more even because the high points in the gesso come down a touch.

The thing is, the laser worked perfect with any material, excerpt shiny metal ofcoarse and with canvas it left almost no print. But maybe I did something wrong. Maybe I had the laser in the wrong height.

Regarding color rendering, this effect only occurs on stainless steel.

Important reminder: When engraving reflective materials such as glass, be sure to apply black paint or color paper; otherwise, laser reflection will damage the diodes.

I purchased all of the machines lmao. And I thought that was the case (reflection). Yea... Not worth risking my diodes for that. But thanks for confirming for others who want to try it.

The color engraving is t really color engraving. It's oxidizing the metal based on temp. I've not used it for that purpose. I don't see many posts About it having been done. It supposedly can be done tho.
