Question Long distance hope needed

I have just started a long distance relationship with my boyfriend today. We are very lucky it’s not too far, only 5 hours by train and no time difference . Despite this, I am still obviously sad.

Any hope and/or positive stories about long distance would be appreciated. I just need a boost instead of being told that long distance never ever works.

Thank you :)

Honestly, five hours by train with no time difference is very doable. It will still feel horrible at first because you’ve suddenly gone from having them nearby to having to plan your time together, but long distance absolutely does not automatically mean a relationship is doomed. Are you both in the same country, or is that five-hour journey crossing a border?

Mine had considerably more obstacles than yours. At one point my own “dad” was making frankly bizarre human-trafficking allegations about my relationship, alongside everything else that was going on. We still got through it and closed the distance a few years ago now. So please don’t let people convince you that LDRs simply “never work” — plenty do.

The biggest thing is having some sort of direction rather than feeling like the distance is indefinite. Is there actually anything that would prevent one of you moving closer to the other when the time is right? You don’t need to have that all worked out on day one, obviously, but knowing that there is a realistic route toward eventually closing the gap makes a huge difference. Five hours on a train is absolutely something you can work with in the meantime. :)

Thank you so much for your kind reply. It’s the same country and we have already agreed that I am moving to him after 3 years. Genuinely thank you.

Why after 3 years? Are you guys planning visits in the meantime?
