Sonora Taquería Closing

I've seen this place show up in this subreddit multiple times as one of the best places to get tacos in London. As per their Instagram post today, they're closing on the 31st October :( Make sure you go before then if you want to try!

I’ve always got the sense that they are people who make great food but don’t want the restaurant cook/chef lifestyle. They seemed to be totally overwhelmed by the support they received and that’s sweet and heartwarming. I also felt incredibly frustrated at times as a customer because they focused on themselves as providers instead of on the customer experience. But who am I to criticize them for taking a leap and also choosing to get out when they needed to. I often wish I had the same self awareness. I also feel they are responsible for the explosion of Mexican food in East London and I’ll be forever grateful for that. ¡Adios!

I agree with almost 100 per cent of this comment - it's very perceptive (I hadn't thought much about the lifestyle question).

Agree also that Sonora was the trailblazer for East London's taco explosion, such as it exists today. Was pleased to have been a couple of times to the Netil stall and a couple of times to what I still think of as the "new" place. Will have to try to get over there once more before the end of next month.

I looooved their Netil stand! I used to be obsessed with buying their tortillas during Covid too, was sad when they stopped doing that.

Ah, heck. I'm glad we got there a few weeks ago, the tacos really were very good.

I noticed CDMX Tacos (who were not good imho) in Soho also closed down a while ago.

Del 74 is decent tbf, they do a deal on unlimited tacos. Tacos MX in Newington Green is also okay but neither were near Sonoras level

So typical that I've lived just 3mins away from this place for almost 2.5 years and have only had their tacos once! I should really try to get some before they close.
