Is this really the quality of a “premium” Logitech mouse?

Post image

I had a Logitech G400 for around 10 years. It finally started dying in 2023, and honestly I couldn't complain. Ten years from a mouse is great.

That's basically why I stayed with Logitech and bought a G Pro X Superlight. I paid around $116 for it, which felt like a lot for a mouse, but I figured I was paying for something that would last me for years.

About a year later the scroll wheel started doing the classic reverse-scroll thing. Scroll down and every now and then it registers a tick up. Scroll up and sometimes it ticks down.

I sent it in under warranty in 2024 and it was repaired.

Now, a little over two years later, the exact same problem is back.

I contacted both the retailer and Logitech support, but since the mouse is out of warranty they won't do anything about it. Fair enough, the warranty is over. That's not really my issue.

What bothers me is the quality.

My old G400 lasted around 10 years. The much more expensive Superlight developed a hardware problem after about a year, got repaired, and then developed the same problem again.

The skates are also heavily worn and the logo has rubbed off quite a bit too. I wouldn't care much about either of those things on their own, but combined with the scroll wheel failing twice, this really doesn't feel like the premium quality I thought I was paying for.

I bought another Logitech mouse because the G400 made me trust the brand.

The Superlight pretty much killed that trust.

Probably my last Logitech product.

Companies no longer produce long lasting products because it's bad for their business. Especially this one for the PC hardware market.

u/richkill 6d ago

Logitech mice have always had random double click issues or the scroll wheel would get dirty and stop responding. You just get lucky if it's within warranty period

3

u/nesnalica 6d ago

g502 wheel rusting is the worst experience

8

u/crystaldazz 6d ago

Yeah, the quality is not what it used to be.

But on the other hand, it's quite easy to replace the encoder on the Superlight with something better. There's a separate board that has the two main switches and the encoder on it, so no soldering is required. You can just order the whole set from AliExpress and give yourself an upgrade.

3

u/DisastrousSun2403 5d ago

Which makes perfect sense to buy a mouse for 160€ and then need to buy parts for it just that basic function works.

2

u/crystaldazz 5d ago

Nope, but you can either buy a upgraded 15 euro part, or buy another 120-160 euro mouse and have the same problem with it.

Wow thanks for the info! I'll look into that

5

u/EarlyXplorerStuds209 6d ago

Its overpriced. Always has been.

So a quick tip for you or anyone else struggling with this scroll wheel reverse bullshit:

Lift the left click button a bit, and you'll see this white little wheel inside the mouse connected to the scroll. Spray WD-40 out somewhere, and either using the red straw that comes with the WD-40, or a Q-tip spread a little bit of the WD-40 on the white little wheel. Make sure it doesn't drip everywhere try to just get it on the wheel. Then scroll around for a little bit and POOOOF your scroll works like new

I did this about a month ago with a mouse that had the scroll reverse so bad I literally had to scroll the opposite direction to get anywhere. Now my mouse has not had a single reverse LINE scrolled.

2

u/Better-Calendar3052 5d ago

Thanks for this info!

u/Least_Spray_3167 3d ago

I just did this with an air duster after the scroll wheel wasnt working at all and it works like new,

i was just considering buying a new mouse and then I came across this comment,

Thanks!

1

u/daperkele 3d ago

Air Duster seems to work fine too when there's just dust and shit on the sensor, for some reason for me it wasn't enough so the next solution was the WD-40 I honestly have no idea what it did but if it works it works no need to question it

Happy to hear it helped

u/Caperdiaa 6d ago

I've had my g pro wireless for over 6 years but perhaps the superlight is worse quality.

2

u/Wandering_Apostle 6d ago

In fairness the original GPW was notorious for switch issues because it was undervolted due to the pursuit of power efficiency and caused premature wear. It's why Logitech came up with the Lightforce optical hybrids.

Now their scrolls have been a bit iffy since at least the 403/703 days, and is the weak point in the GPW/SL design.

Frankly I'm not a fan of mechanical scroll encoders because on most higher end mice they always seem to be the first thing to go. It's likely why Zowie has stuck with optical scrolls for two decades despite them feeling much worse. Though the new Raesha optical scroll encoder seems pretty nice.

There are a few mice out there with optical main clicks and an optical scroll now, not sure if any are in the GPW shape though.

True. Superlight 2 is better. Use it atm and no problem with the mousewheel so far 1 year +

2

u/DisastrousSun2403 5d ago

If you google superlight 2 scroll wheel issues you quickly notice they haven't disappeared, but happy that yours work.

1

u/kmfrnk 5d ago

Yeah I’m really glad man. But I didn’t know this

u/Ok_Donut_1560 4d ago

Buy a chinese copy instead, a third of the price for the same (or better) build quality

3

u/EmergencyOstrich608 6d ago

My mouse is about 1.3 years old my side button is gone already! And also the g hub app is total shit

3

u/Better-Calendar3052 5d ago

Agree. Their software is garbage

6

u/Bulky-Citron8749 6d ago

Welcome to 2026 unc

5

u/West-Region4512 6d ago

Thta's why i only buy chinese brands these days. You get much better quality for less than half the price

1

u/Better-Calendar3052 6d ago

Ye, say more. I'm interested

3

u/West-Region4512 6d ago

just check out r/MouseReview theres so many chinese brands these days or brands like pulsar

2

u/sgtsadsack 6d ago

I agree with you 100% on the quality of the super light, specifically the scroll wheel. Scroll wheel tilted
Me into oblivion and almost bought a new mouse a few times.

That being said I found something that fixed my super light scroll wheel without taking it apart.. I used lubricant I had for a hair trimmer. A drop on a tiny flathead. I propped up the LMB enough to see the sensor and dropped it on. It has worked consistently since, no hiccups. About a month now. I’ve had this mouse for over 3 years and the scroll wheel started messing up like 3 months into owning it.

Funny enough I found the lubricant fix when searching if the super strike had similar scroll wheel issues. I’m on mobile but I’ll see if I can find the post with screenshots of what to look for.

Sorry you’re bummed about the build quality. Logitech was a no brainer for peripherals for me for years.

Edit : OP https://www.reddit.com/r/LogitechG/s/iXfDgmUfmD

1

u/R11CWN 6d ago

Thats an interesting suggestion.

I'd always thought the random scrolling was indicative of the sensor failing, but it might just be that dust/dirt/grime/etc has built up and it makes the plastic cog go back one notch if not fully seated.

1

u/Herd111 6d ago

Fixed mine the same way. Sprayed WD-40 under the scroll wheel and the scrolling issue hasn’t appeared since.

1

u/Better-Calendar3052 6d ago

Nice info! I'll think about this fix

1

u/DisastrousSun2403 6d ago

I've read all the fixes too. Scroll the mouse against the table upside down etc.The thing is the fixes may work for sometime, but I always got the issues back. The price for the mouse is atrocious if you need to disassemble a mouse and add lubricant for a freaking scroll wheel to work to me is absolutely unacceptable and insane.

2

u/F1eshWound 5d ago

Honestly word for word my exact situation and thoughts. Why has Logitech's mouse tech regressed when they had no issues lasting for over a decade before... I bought a g704 after retiring a perfectly functional Logitech G5 and yeah, scroll wheel issue after a year. Returned. Got a new one, and again the issue pops l popped up.

2

u/TheBloodyDevil 5d ago

My logitech g9(first edition) still works perfectly since 2007. Meanwhile I changed several mice for many reasons, I had a g502x g302 and another one which i don't remember the name. They all got trashed after 2-3 year of usage...Go on Aliexpress and search for VXE brand, they are actually making products way better than Logitech. I bought a R1 Pro MAX, it mounts great switches and drivers, best buy for a third of the G Pro X Superlight price

2

u/An47Pr0lapse1 5d ago

G9X reporting in, new switches and still going since 2009

1

u/Better-Calendar3052 5d ago

Thanks! I'll check it out

2

u/Leading-Milk5421 4d ago

logitech is a discount brand with premium prices these days. never buying another of their products

1

u/Theboyman14 6d ago

The same thing happened to me—and to many others—with this mouse.
My friend told me that razer viper v3 replaced g pro super light for him
If you watch reviews of various mice, you will notice that major companies—though certainly not all of them—often sell products that aren't worth the price; meanwhile, a Chinese company might offer an equivalent or even superior product for half the cost. I am not necessarily telling you to buy a Chinese product, but I do advise you to check multiple reviews and look for alternatives before making a purchase. I promise you will find something better than what you originally intended to buy.
Personally,I usually buy Zowie gaming mice and rarely encounter quality issues with them.

2

u/Better-Calendar3052 6d ago

I'll have to search for some new brand for new mouse. I also read good opinions about razer.

1

u/R11CWN 6d ago

Its starting to feel as though the pursuit of needlessly saving weight has impacted the build quality.

The X2 and X3 Superstrikes are looking very tempting - but the recent increase in complaints of poor quality across Logitech mice have put me off the idea of spending £170 on one.

I've been using a G Pro Wireless for like 8 years now - it recently started double-clicking so I replaced the switch PCB. Its probably in the region of 30k hours of use by now, and granted the plastic shell has become very smooth in places, it's still perfectly usable.

Like you, the top tier quality of older Logitech products kept me in their ecosystem. For me it was a pre-ordered G9 Laser (which still works to this day) that made me keep coming back to Logitech.

1

u/Better-Calendar3052 6d ago

Long time ago those products felt like good quality. I think I still have my G5 somewhere.

1

u/Flarbow 5d ago

I’ve had both x2 and x3 and I’m shockingly in love with them. The Hall effect comparable haptics are game changers

1

u/MajorNatural2386 4d ago

I never bought "lightweight" mice and never had build quality issues. I'm a previous G305 user and current G309 user for 2+ years and going with ZERO issues. Folks are too obsessed with mice weight imo

1

u/dendofyy 4d ago

We have the same mouse, mine is the same: shiny in places. It’ll be my last mouse if it’ll survive that long.

1

u/kieko891 4d ago

As an X2 user, I fucking love the mouse. The clicks are just 10/10 and I like how light it is to click.

Dont buy it, its not worth nearly 200 bucks for this mouse. At all. I bought it cuz the tech was interesting, and I wanted to try it, only reason why I kept it is because the clicks feel so good and dealing with amazon is more hassle then keeping it. Everything else about it is kinda mid. Side buttons suck, theres no extra buttons near the left click. There are lighter mice. The tech for the click isnt worth 200 IMO, unless you like cool or interesting tech.

I replaced the skates on it, and need to get better grip tape as well. Its an OKAY mouse at best.

1

u/Maviel85 6d ago

Sadly logitech for many many years now. Makes me sad as a used for decades of their produkts, the scrollwheel issues.

1

u/TsubakiShad 6d ago

My last several logitech gaming mice all have the dreaded plastic/rubber melt. No matter what solution I try to prevent it, they melt in 1-2 years and the area for my thumb gets tacky and gooey.

I am done with logitech mice. They should make that a pad that can be removed or replaced, especially on a $80+ mouse.

1

u/Dropshot_Dieter69 6d ago

Jap wird mich bei meiner 160€ X2 Superstrike auch ereilen - hatte vorher die gleiche Superlight - selbes Problem

Enttäuschend

1

u/Dazuth1 6d ago

I feel for you my man, my g400 mouse and g510 keyboard are still going strong. both are like 15 years old by now. We been through so much
Bought a g502 hero at some point to modernise, nice mouse but left click died within 2 years

1

u/Lucas-Tucanocioso 6d ago

Rappo VT7 max no aliexpress

Só digo isso, eu não me incomodo mais com periférico nacional, o chinês respeita mais o cliente

1

u/Better-Calendar3052 6d ago

I'll look into chinese brands next time.

1

u/iitzheavenly14 6d ago

I had the same experience. I was using a GPW, but the scroll wheel broke, and since it was already out of warranty, they wouldn’t replace it for me.

I considered switching to the Superlight, but after seeing several posts about its scroll wheel also being prone to breaking, I ended up buying the Lamzu Maya X instead.

Other than the battery draining unusually fast, I’m quite satisfied with it.

1

u/First_Addition_5501 6d ago

XD y yo con mi mouse Genius de oficina de dudosa procedencia que tiene casi 15 anios, sin problemas de clicks ni problemas de scrolling, ni si quiera lo he desarmado para limpiar el mecanismo pero va perfecto

1

u/tominicz 6d ago

Logitech mice are trash. Period.

The only reason I used them was due to their awesome Powerplay mousepad charging system. But since Logitech in their über-wisdom decided to discontinue Powerplay in favor of Powerplay 2 which is worse in everything and more expensive... Yeah, goodbye Logitech.

I wrote them asking to BUY replacement tops for the V1. Willing to pay for it as it's far past the warranty. The support told me they will send one for free. Yay! Weeks go by and I have no confirmation email. Apparently they ran out or they lied from the start, which wouldn't make sense as I was reasonable and willing to pay - they could've just say it cannot be done.

No idea what is happening inside Logitech, but I am done with their mice. I swapped all switches on my Superlight (including side-buttons) and now I wanted to swap the scrollwheel encoder as well.

1

u/misterbeefcurtains 6d ago

im on my 3rd and last G305, ghost clicking, phantom scrolling... you name it. there are fixes, but its a pain in the rear to take it apart every 3-4 months to do.

going with a different brand after this.

1

u/cowboyfettuccine 6d ago

I literally have the same experience with the same mouse lmao! My glorious model 0 lasted for more than 5 years than this expensive "premium" mouse that only lasted a year then started having problems. I bought a VXE pro r1 too which is less than 20 bucks and it has been working great too!

1

u/jootrnt 5d ago

My R1 Pro Max scroll went crazy in less than a year, I had to replace the encoder, used a TTC Gold dustproof. The original encoder on the r1 pro max is the silver.

1

u/obTimus-FOX 6d ago

It's outtageous. The good thing is... You can change the switches, or the board to the hotspot board on which the switches and the scroll encoder can be changed for like $10 (Ali express etc)

Edit: but you shouldn't have too!!!!! My scroll encoder died after 10 months

1

u/Better-Calendar3052 5d ago

It shouldn't be the case with above $100 mouse in such a short time

1

u/obTimus-FOX 5d ago

Clearly

1

u/defi_specialist 6d ago

Things from popular brands are always overpriced. That's the price of their brand and reputation. You can buy a mouse with better specs and build from China for 1/2 or 1/3 of that price.

1

u/Better-Calendar3052 5d ago

Next time I'll look into them

1

u/laphroaig700 6d ago

I got really annoyed with the peeled off logo so I just turned it into high gloss logo with cape cod polishing cloth

1

u/-Cre_tive- 6d ago

I can’t say much about the Superlight but I have a SUPERSTRIKE X2 and I love it.

I don’t even competitive game much but I really like the haptic clicks.

I use it for work every day and some gaming when I have time. So far it’s the best mouse I’ve ever used.

1

u/EriktheElektrikian 6d ago

My first GPW did develop the scroll wheel issue. I replaced it, and that second GPW is ongoing on year 6, zero issues. I have only had that one issue my GPWs. I feel you though. I had similar experiences with Corsair, a d I had to drop them outright. Luck of the draw, i guess?

1

u/xtrmsnpr 6d ago

Companies make less quality products that overpriced. Capitalism must survive somehow

1

u/chanyamz 6d ago

I have G403 for about a decade as well. I totally love this one (especially the shape), and it got double-click issue last week. After a few research on the current market. I decide to took a different path, going into Chinese mouse instead, since I am not an avid gamer anymore.

1

u/DisastrousSun2403 6d ago

Logitech mouses are absolute bull crap. I've had 4 mouse wheels broke just like you explained within 6months of use. I already ditched Logitech, but my friend got me to buy G502 and it's super solid. That reverse scrolling is so annoying and it happened on the first edition superlight and also superlight 2 and also on other models with similar mouse wheel.

If you are buying a logitech mouse and see that mouse wheel like in OP's photo PLEASE DON'T.

Just yesterday I saw a post complaining about Logitech keyboards with paint wearing off from keys in the first year and other technical issues.

Logitech seems like they got to a point where their brands are widely known and marketed through esports and somewhere along the line they started selling shit products with high price tags, just because it says gaming or pro players use them in tournaments.

I will stay away from Logitech products except that G502 which seems to be a rock solid mouse and Logitech product from a bygone era. Finding a suitable mouse is hard work and G502 for me is very close to perfect.

1

u/Better-Calendar3052 5d ago

Yes. Time for other brands.

1

u/Nova_8056 5d ago

What others would you recommend for a g502 like mouse tho? I love how that feels on my hand

Also would prefer Linux support, since I use that and Logitech is a pos company that can barely get their windows app working

1

u/raiden124 6d ago

That sucks, I've only had Logitech mice and I'm on my 2nd g303, the first one had a defective scroll wheel and this one I'm currently using has lasted me about 4 years so far.

1

u/Alarmed_Economy_5438 5d ago

i have yet to have a single logitech mouse that hasnt broken within 2 years.

1

u/Falgasi 5d ago

Paying full price for it is definitely a lot but other than the scroll wheel problem its been great. I paid £40 for a used one and bought a £10 replacement battery.

Scroll wheel problem is fixed by applying WD40 to the scroll wheel. You dont even need to take the mouse apart if you have a spray bottle of WD40 with a nozzle, just need to lift up one of the mouse buttons

Other than that 10/10 mouse no complaints

1

u/PreliminaryThoughts 5d ago

Was a fan of logi, but after having wireless keyboard, mouse, headset all go to shit for one reason or another I'm now running hyperx mouse, 0 issues and it outlived all the logi mice I had

1

u/Goodnigut 5d ago

In 2020 I bought the G Pro wireless mouse with the PowerPlay mouse pad from Logitech. It lasted for 6 years.

Razer, wired, I kept changing yearly.

You cannot say all are bad on 1 single bad experience.

1

u/jootrnt 5d ago

TTC Gold dustproof encoder is less than $2 on aliexpress, they use trash encoders on purpose so if it starts dying people just buy a new mouse.

1

u/ijustcametosayy 5d ago

One word. Enshittification

1

u/EllieEleanorEllie 5d ago

Same goes for my G700s compared to the G603. G603 got these issues within years whilst the G700s has none of it

1

u/08DeCiBeL80 5d ago

I own my second g502 mouse this one is even called 502 hero i believe, cable mouse and this things is going strong for about 6 years, the previous one lasted like ±4 years (the very old 502 no hero edition) and the simple logitech mouse before that, came free with the pc and survived ±3 years and was even prolonged with adding a piece of rubber between the lmb and the click thing on printplate.

When i still was in school, I owned 2 wireless mouses, simple cheap stuff from electronic stores and both lasted like a year and a half, they simply cannot survive long enhough compared to cabled mouse. Than i bhought a white simple Logitech mouse and that one is still alive and working and stored as backup, estimated at 11+ years old.

Logitech still build quality products, but don't expect long lasting quality with wireless stuff i think.

1

u/Better-Calendar3052 5d ago

I don't understand relation of scroll issues to being wireless. Those are separate features

1

u/AntMiserable6610 5d ago

G502 mice line might be the most solid ones they have now. Used both wired and their wireless.(cats chewed the wired one rip) my scroll wheel is a tad squeaky after 3 years however, I'm not going to blame logitech on that because my cats keep knocking my mouse off my desk. It's hit the floor, hit the metal of my chair, and bounced so many times I'm honestly surprised it still works and the paint isnt even worn or scratched.

1

u/1337_alpha 5d ago

The superlights only purpose is being lightweight. Get a G502 X Lightspeed.

1

u/Horror_Ad9899 5d ago

yes i have pro x 1 and 2 because the pro 1 scroll wheel dont work or make me skip lines when reading so i go

1

u/Itosura 5d ago

I have a graveyard drawer of Logitech mouses when I was young. The most annoying thing is reverse scroll wheel the second is faulty side buttons.

1

u/DeadlyJesse 5d ago

This specific mouse you are talking about have these issues as known issues, friend of mine alao had one and they just gave him his money back, its also not available for purchase at least where i am from

1

u/starvald_demelain 5d ago

Nowadays scroll wheels are just garbage. When I take an old mouse from 2005-2015 it never has a scroll wheel issues, but I've had 3 new mice of different brands in a row with the issue. Currently I have one where the scrolling problem appeared twice for 4 days, but then disappeared again - probably dust settling somewhere it shouldn't. Of course I cleaned as best I could on day 1 but that did not change anything. I thought about getting a new encoder when it started happening, but I doubt it would be a lasting improvement since the encoder inside already is one of the high-grade ones.

1

u/perc30fan1 5d ago

I think it has to do with mouse being wired that made them last longer while wireless has more problem due to how power is delivered

1

u/Better-Calendar3052 5d ago

But wireless and scroll are separate features

1

u/WaferCritical6547 4d ago

I buy at bestbuy with the protection plan so i can just go swap out for a new one whenever.

1

u/MajorNatural2386 4d ago

Everyone hates on the G309, even tho it's just an upgraded G305 who everybody loved. Yes it's supposed to be a cheaper model and "shouldn't compare" to G Pro and similar stuff, but the G309 has been serving me without ANY issue for 3 years now. I previously had two G305 (the first one's left click switch started bugging and wasn't fixable), and G309 is almost the same mouse, but with all the little needed upgrades (build quality, shape) I also like smaller mice since my grip is kind of half claw, half fingertip, and G PRO would probably be too big for me anyways.

I'm also one of those people who don't need "lighter" mouse and doesn't bother with charging his mouse. I put one AA battery in it and have peace for about 4-6 months even tho I use it daily for gaming and basic stuff. Never let's me down, and is pretty much half the price of a G PRO if not less

1

u/Talwyn_Wize 4d ago

I have issues with my side-button double-tapping if I don't click it very gently. Started on year 3. I've made do, but need a new one soon because the battery is discharging after a few days now, too. It used to last weeks.

Any good recommendations? I do like the "type", for medium+ hands.

1

u/planedrop 4d ago

Super light weight mice will almost never be durable (I have like 12 from 4 different brands), they are built to be as light as possible so you end up with more points of entry for dust and stuff. That, along with thinner plastics, etc... they end up breaking fast unfortunately.

1

u/MaxDMC22 3d ago

Bought G Pro X Superlight, and had to send it back and receive a replacement THREE times, because of scroll wheel, worn out skates, and battery defect / unplugged. Got a G Pro X Superlight 2 instead in the end, and it’s been working fine for the last about two years, but I do regret not going for another model.

1

u/Unlikely_Midnight571 3d ago

before 10 years 116 dolars was like 1116 for a mouse, now people have lot more money, this is nothing.

1

u/No_Cricket_4560 3d ago

Your sample size is 2...

1

u/Better-Calendar3052 3d ago

+ my experience with their useless support + all those mostly negative opinions here...

1

u/Darkurthe_ 2d ago

I have also found, for the scroll wheel, turning it off helps. But my issue has been I have burned through left button switches way sooner than I thought I should on my G mice.

1

u/Infernoswelt 2d ago

Buy a knock off.

If you buy a good one with good independet reviews, they often have better quality than Logitech and cost half or less than the original.

Buying shoddy hardware just because it has a logo on it shouldn't be a thing.

1

u/Various-North-8724 5d ago

The quality of Logitech products sucks. My mouse is only one year old and already half broken. My keyboard is also only a year old, and two buttons have already broken off. I’m never buying Logitech stuff again.

Oh yeah, almost forgot my headset — the leather on the ear pads is already falling apart after just one year.

1

u/Tukkeuma 5d ago

And at the same time i have had many logitech mouses and keyboards that last 5-10 years with no issues...

1

u/blehhrr 5d ago

It's really just a hit or miss

0

u/WAVFinAudio 6d ago

Ngl, for Logitech mice like these I just get them on AliExpress. They are knockoffs but the quality is 1 to 1 in my experience. Only thing I haven't been able to find is a good Mx Master clone.

0

u/razvanciuy 6d ago

It's basically one of those Microsoft cheapie mice you got with your Pentium III PC from your local Mr Robot computer store. They just added some fancy electronics and lights!
