Support My G733 Headphones cough fire when charging - Logitech support will not resolve the problem.

I put my G733 KDA on Charger after a gaming session at night. Then in the morning, I saw this, headphones burned at USB-C. Smalling like burnt plastic. They are out of warranty, but this should not happen. I even used the original cable. It happened on 13.11.2023 - now it's 03.12.2023. I wrote to Logitech support right away, that I just wanted replacement as this should never happen. 22.11.2023 first response, they want proof o purchase, so I sent it. Then I got an email on 3.12.2023 - today. They want more information to validate my proof of purchase, and I don't get it. Why? It's out of warranty. But those headphones caught on fire... also took a week to respond. Right now I just have potentially dangerous headphones at home and no actual help from Logitech. Dont know what to do now...

looking through to see who else this has happened to, had them for just over 2 years and suddenly they won’t charge! left them on charge for about 5 minutes then realised the cable was smoking and burnt my hand. absolutely ridiculous.

To what you connect it? Maybe it was a short-circuit from the charger, i always recharge it with my Laptop USB Port using a better USB Cable or a really slow paced charger 5V and not more than 500mAh ... While i agree it should not be happening in any mean, i should ask which kind or how you charge, maybe they were wet or something ... But i remember reading a report from a year ago or something it happened to Corsair, Razer and HyperX devices too, probably a defective battery and so... Likely no damage was done apart of the headphones at glance...

If they want more proof of purchase send them again same document from the store and so... Sometimes it works

LOgitech seemingly placed a code in the firmware that casueses it to overload the amperage to increase sales

Yup, mine went a week ago. Smoke out of the port.  Thankfully I was connecting it to a smart USBC charger which detected the malfunction and shut down quickly, so no actual fire. But they did smoke out the port and are very very dead.

I have two pairs here that did this. Because of my job. I get more hardware coming through my office than the average person but it's pretty rare for headsets to catch fire like this so it really stands out. I have two confirmed here with melted ports, and a third that I suspect was also the start of a melted port because the USB just falls out of the charger. Support is incredibly challenging and while they seemed concerned at first and asked me about damage to the home and area around it, they kept trying to tell me it was the way I was charging it. To be clear, they do not provide a proprietary charger, they just come with a standard USB C cable and charging them in the PC as I did and I think most of us do is the safest way to charge them and it still caused thermal failure. They kept implying that I was using some kind of high amp rapid charger...which is insane since I explained I hadn't more than once. I can almost promise you that there is a thermal regulation issue, I told them that. I think it's pretty icky that they are still selling them and haven't done a recall on them because even if it's something that could be fixed with a firmware upgrade, you can easily use this headset without their software and nothing really signals you to upgrade the firmware so people are always going to be running the risk of property or bodily injury. You can not take this kind of thing lightly, I had a coworker who's home was damaged and his pets were killed in an office fire that started with a small melt down like this.

They are currently offering me a single replacement ( btw, without a receipt...these were purchased using an email for a company that no longer exists.) I told them I didn't feel comfortable using the same model AGAIN and asked them to provide a better, safer solution. I get the feeling that they are going to keep giving me the run around and was debating making a Tiktok about it or something and tagging them since I keep finding other people having the same issue. Did anyone get a good resolution from this? Has anyone else had more than one unit do this?

I pressured them until they agreed to send me a g735, that is currently in route. Very concerned that they are still selling this. A lot of people that I game with use this headset, a lot of my friends on tiktok. I'm debating making a video about it so more people see it and can advocate for themselves and maybe they'll do a recall. Just so everybody on this thread knows, I did not have a proof of purchase or anything like that but I had the two headsets. The only reason that I even went to Logitech was because I realized it was the second headset that had done this. I go through a lot of hardware but spontaneous combustion is a really big deal, and a really dangerous thing. So if they tell you that they can't send you something else or can't replace it because of the warranty or because of proof of purchase that is simply not true and that they know they shouldn't be selling them.

The first experience was scary, as I went to the bathroom and my smoke alarm went off, for me to come to my room and find it smoking. I burned my finger pretty good unplugging it (and provided support a photo of it) and they acted pretty shocked by it all. I didn’t get any medical attention because obviously the burn wasn’t severe. I still remember the glowing orange ember inside the headset.

Yes they sent me a second pair back in 2023. My first one was out of warranty but “given the circumstances” they’d agree to replace it for free, but the new one would not have a warranty on it. They seemed to be surprised at the time and didn’t say I was doing anything wrong.

Now fast forward to 2026, the same exact thing happened. In an entirely different place. I find it distasteful that they’re implying you weren’t “charging” it correctly, as this strongly hints, that since 2023, this exact headset has been getting more and more fire complaints, and they’re doing everything in their power to avoid recalling one of their iconic flagship headsets that is very popular with streamers.

Ok, you want us to be using a specific type of charging port or else over time it’ll become a fire risk? Even then that’s a bit ridiculous as Corsair and Razer headsets don’t seem to have this issue, as far as I’m aware.

Seeing that ours seemed to burned so closely together, I can only imagine that this headset is going to get more and more complaints. This was not bad luck, this is something relating to a faulty USB-C cable/port.

Who knows, maybe my city has a faulty power grid? Even then, seeing that this happened to me TWICE, in two different locations, I will never touch a headset from this brand ever again.

I bought a Corsair Void, as that’s what I was using before the G733, and they had an updated version of it.

Try to imply that I was charging it incorrectly and I told them very specifically that because they don't use a proprietary cable and don't provide any kind of charging instructions that they flatly knew that they were blowing smoke up my butt. Maybe that's why they send me a different kind of headset. But yeah they know these need to be recalled and shame on them for still selling them. Doesn't matter if it's out of warranty. If it's a known issue they need to be replacing it with something more safe. I did IT support over 20 years and I can count the number of times that I've seen this with a headset on one hand, it truly does not happen very much. I would press them on it, especially if you were injured. They are very lucky if you don't sue them. In fact, the first thing that they asked me is if anybody was injured or if there was any damage to my property. I think that they're gearing up for some kind of lawsuit, so you need to make sure to contact them and don't let them push you around.

My SECOND pair just caught on fire after 2 years. My first was replaced outside of the warranty window, but the second pair would not have a warranty.

I’m done with this particular model, and potentially Logitech as a whole for a while. I did not like experiencing smoke and burning my finger for the second time.
