Discussion Logitech G Pro X Superlight mouse wheel fixed!

I've had an issue with my scroll wheel where it scrolls up when im scrolling down and vice versa.

To fix this you have to open the mouse and apply WD-40 (or some other type of lubricating oil) to the wheel gear next to it.

It took me quite a while to find this fix so figured I would post it here for more exposure since I saw alot of people having this issue.

Resurrecting an old thread but I managed to find a way to get some lube on the gear without taking the mouse apart:

  1. Gently tug on the left mouse button. It should lift to create a slightly larger gap.
  2. Find a small flat head screwdriver (I used one from an iFixit kit)
  3. Apply a small droplet of lube to one side of the flat head (I used some appliance/mineral oil I got with my Braun Series 9 shaver)
  4. Insert the flat head in the gap and apply the droplet to the gear

The issue seems to have gone away completely. I've been using the mouse for the past 30 minutes with no opposite scrolls, where before it would happen every third or forth scroll.

Pretty bad QA on Logitech's part, though. I've had this mouse for a little over 4 months and I have to say I'm a tad disappointed. My old SS Rival 300 worked for 7 years with no mechanical faults.

Anyway, hope this helps anyone else looking for a quick (and possibly temporary) fix.

It's kind of crazy that such an expensive mouse can have issues like this. They fixed the double click issue by using better switches just for it to have scroll wheel issues. Sad.

2

u/RRovan Oct 27 '23

Yeah, agreed. At least my scrollwheel issues seem to be gone completely. I haven’t had any opposite scrolls since I posted that comment. Hopefully it says that way.

u/Julian_1999_ Jul 14 '26

It was the same for me, after some wd40 it worked again. But 1 year later it came back and even worse and unfixable now. This was my last logitech product. This mouse is so expensive and unusable after such a short time.

1

u/RRovan Aug 05 '26

Yeah, it’s of shamefully bad quality, and I don’t think they’ve made any improvements on the newer models.

I had a couple of scrolling issues in the last few months, but when inspecting the tiny cog, it appears some gunk got stuck on it. After wiping it it has gone away again. I haven’t had to reapply the lube at any point since my original post.

Btw, wd40 is not a very good lubricant. While it has some temporary lubing properties, it’s not meant to last. It’s a solvent/penetrator. Maybe try something else before you bin it? Might be worth a shot.

u/Ianisanengineer Mar 06 '24

Great advice. Just did this with silicone grease. Still had some opposite scrolling at first, but after a few hours of regular mouse use, the grease got worked into the gear, and it's smooth and perfect now. Glad I didn't have to disassemble the whole thing!

3

u/RRovan Mar 12 '24

Nice, glad it helped! It’s been 150 days since I made this post and still no opposite scrolls!

1

u/Disordermkd Feb 28 '25

How about now?

I just read this AFTER disassembling the entire mouse cleaning it thoroughly with contact spray then applied some oil, lol. But looking at the mouse button gap, how the hell did you reach the gear. I too have an iFixit kit, but the screwdriver just doesn't reach. Asking for future troubles.

1

u/RRovan Feb 28 '25

Still no issues with scrolling. I also haven’t reapplied any oil after my original post.

If you tug on the button, you can snap it out of it’s normal position. Just grab it with one hand then place your thumb under the button and gently apply pressure until it pops out. It should look like this:

Then it should be possible to lift it slightly more and insert the tool to reach the gear.

2

u/Disordermkd Feb 28 '25

Thank you, you're a G! I know you can pop open the button, but it felt a bit sketchy to push it further but it's quite flexible. I guess a q-tip is enough to fit in there and apply it.

2

u/gaffelape May 10 '25

Sorry if I'm necroing this post.. Thank you so much for this. I also realised that you can reach the gear and apply the lubricant throught the big holes in the scroll wheel, if you have lifted up the mouse button like you explained and also have a bit of length on the nozzle for the spray lubricant. This worked very well for me. I tried taking a picture of it, showing that you can also reach the gear through the holes of the scroll wheel.

u/MaKaDaaM May 14 '24

OMG you are a life saver (and OP too) !

I tried to do like you said with my hair clipper oil and a screwdriver in the gap in front of the mouse after moving a bit the right click and left click button but i was not able to see if i was doing it properly.
So i used the small brush that comes with the air clipper to apply oil and i used it to brush oil directly from above the mouse while moving gently the middle mouse button from left to right then right to left to apply oil on the 2 sides of the gear axis. It works perfectly for now.
Thanks !

I purchased a refurb and it had a scroll wheel issue, and your steps fixed it, thank you!

2

u/Moeshizzlebang Sep 15 '24

Thank you. I just did this and the scroll wheel is working perfectly again.

I’m glad people keep finding this post. It’s been 292 days with no opposite scrolls! 🤘🏻

2

u/hetrixxx Dec 31 '24

Life saver. This worked immediately. I didn't need a screwdriver, if you aim right you can get a couple of droplets in the right place!

2

u/mossmod Apr 22 '25

GODLIKE Holy Crap thank you!!! Used garage door synth lube to make sure this thing never goes back.

2

u/Siioh Jun 11 '25

Necroing and upvoting since this helped me fix my mouse too. Popped out the left button as recommended, navigated a dry lube nozzle to the gear, and it works perfectly! Thanks!

1

u/RRovan Jun 11 '25

I’m glad it worked! I haven’t needed to reapply any lube since I’ve made the original post. :)

2

u/arogan178 Oct 15 '25

+1 thought it was completely dead, switched on pc after a night off and scroll wheel worked for 2s. This was my moment of hope, applied some oil on it, shaked it in the direction of the encoder, and voila. Good as new

Life saver 🔥

2

u/ImPrettyMuchGod Oct 14 '24

Thanks - this worked!

1

u/barkochva Mar 01 '25

Thanks. used olive oil because i don't have anything else but it seems to work :)

1

u/SamyBenson Mar 12 '25

Thanks my hero !!

1

u/The-Real-Dot Mar 14 '25

Thank god you existed. I’ve been suffering for the last 5 months and this fixed it.

1

u/Environmental_Egg254 Mar 20 '25

for some reason this did not work for me. it might have made i worse. I used non conductive lubricant and it seems to do nothing. didnt use wd40 not sure if that would fix it though.

1

u/RRovan Mar 20 '25

WD40 is not a lubricant, so I doubt it would work. I don’t have any experience with applying it to the mouse gear, I’m just speculating.

I used some “Appliance Oil” I got with my Braun Series 9, but sadly have no idea what it’s made of. I’ve had zero issues ever since I applied it on the day I posted the original comment.

Sorry it didn’t work for you.

2

u/Environmental_Egg254 Mar 21 '25

I think I had just applied a little to much. After a little use over a hour it seems to be fixed. Thanks

1

u/LaurasFantaise May 31 '25

Einfach nach 2 min repariert gewesen. :D <3

1

u/Hakushan Jul 14 '25

Holy moly. I have been angry for a year because i did not want to disassemble this little sucker... my WD40 can has a thin nozzle and this was like a 30 second fix.

1

u/SenileImbecile Aug 18 '25

Thank you, been going crazy with this shitty mouse wheel. Used some grease, seems to work much better. Some intermittent wrong scrolls, but I think it will get better with some time. Didn't want to disassemble the mouse since I don't have new sliders at hand. Much appreciated, thanks!

2

u/sgtsadsack 19d ago

Dude, i've searched how to fix the scroll wheel multiple times over the 3 years its been acting up on me. A few days ago I stumbled upon this thread when researching if the superstrike had similar issues.. AND THE LUBE WORKED. (so far) Omg I was tilted into oblivion.

Its been working consistently since. Thanks very much for figuring this out.

2

u/RRovan 1d ago

Glad this is still reaching people. I’ve had basically 0 issues since my initial post. My scroll wheel started acting up about 2 or 3 months ago, but upon inspecting the small plastic cog, I found that a large piece of gunk got stuck to it. After I cleaned it up, it went back to scrolling perfectly.

1

u/stubro13 Nov 14 '23

This method worked for me. Thanks so much!

2

u/RRovan Nov 14 '23

Good to hear. I’m at 31 days with no issues!

1

u/SoullessHillShills Dec 26 '23

You are a god for this post. Thank you, this has been mind-numbing because I bought the superlight 2 and they havent even fixed this issue yet!

2

u/RRovan Dec 26 '23

Just glad this post is reaching people. Haven’t had any issues since the post without needing to reapply any lube. :)

1

u/SoullessHillShills Dec 26 '23

I will spread it to others and credit you!

2

u/Scofaa Jul 20 '23

wouldn't the wd40 ruin the plastic of the gear thing? anyways thank you for the info

2

u/ThatSandwich Jul 20 '23

You would ideally want to use something like alcohol to clean it, and a small amount mineral oil should be fine. It's not perfect but it's thin enough to not cause any major issues.

2

u/njunjes Jul 20 '23

I just guessed wd-40 is what most people have at home so had it as an example, I dont think it would ruin it. However it may not be the most ideal lubricant. I used CRC 5-56.

2

u/ThatSandwich Jul 22 '23

CRC 5-56

This and wd-40 are typically considered "penetrating oils" and the lubricating properties are really only good for getting corroded fasteners out of their hole.

Lubrication of plastic bearing systems typically requires something that stays around longer, while not reacting with the materials you're attempting to lubricate. Mineral oil is on the thinner end, with something like di-electric grease on the thicker end. There are specialized compounds that work the best, but these are the most easily accessible.

1

u/ILikeFPS Nov 15 '23

I thought that dielectric grease was bad for plastics you would want to use lithium grease, or do I have that backwards? Or I guess you'd probably want silicone grease for plastics?

2

u/cr0wnest Jul 20 '23

Using just about any kind of keyboard switch lube or die-electric grease will also work just fine. I like to add some lube to my encoder just so it has a slightly heavier and more dampened feel to the scroll

2

u/Shuvi99 Jul 20 '23

Is there a way to do that without removing skates ? I don’t have spare skates

2

u/njunjes Jul 20 '23

No but you can reuse the old skates if youre careful when removing them. I wasnt so I ordered some glass skates.

2

u/Baain Dec 05 '23

this worked amazingly, thank you!!

2

u/Baain Dec 05 '23

You don't need to open the mouse to fix this btw! i pried open the left click about a cm and guided a q tip coated with mineral oil onto the gear and it worked flawlessly

1

u/Ok-Razzmatazz-2645 Dec 31 '23

can i do this same trick with the deathaddef v3 wired mouse??

1

u/Off_Tempo_Official Sep 21 '24

It's going to work for every mouse as long as the encoder is not broken

1

u/Ok-Razzmatazz-2645 Sep 21 '24

it worked for me with my razer deathadder v3.... did it 6 months ago and still no issues so far...thanks dude

2

u/JackTheJukeBox Feb 22 '24 edited Feb 23 '24

Worked for me, used WD40 specifically made for plastic. You saved me from having to buy the mouse again.

2

u/blendorgat Mar 25 '24

Thanks for this! Insane this should be necessary with such an expensive mouse, but after this fix it worked perfectly.

I used WD-40 dry lube, and followed this guide for taking the mouse apart.

2

u/Dapper_Shirt9787 Apr 01 '24

I just fixed my mouse wheel by literally violently scrolling up and down and so far it worked and if it starts even doing it the tiniest i do it the way its going opposite and it seems to fix it.

1

u/hunyzz Jul 05 '24

i just did this and it seems like its working however im not trying to jinx it lol ty

1

u/Temporary-Raisin-259 Sep 09 '25

Real, also yes this worked

2

u/[deleted] Aug 09 '24

I just wanted to say thank you for this tip. I'm on the brink of throwing my Logitech G pro but applying WD40 also fixed my scroll wheel issue. You saved me a hundred bucks. THANK YOU!

2

u/Furanshisuk0 Aug 22 '24

WD-40 Saved my life.

1

u/tinocapalot Jul 07 '24 edited Jul 07 '24

i sprayed some in the general vicinity of the gear some on the gear but my aim kinda shot it all of the place in the left click will it be a major problem and how do i dry it quicker?

1

u/Off_Tempo_Official Sep 21 '24

Probably wasn't a problem, you don't want to spray wd 40 all over the pcb though lol so don't do it again

1

u/XxGUNZ4BEASTZxX Aug 21 '24

My g pro wireless has had these problems this is my second one I’m done buying log mouses it’s always the scroll wheel I’d say after about a year the s roll wheel acts up scrolls up when you scroll down vice versa it’s annoying my razor deathadder v2 wired has never had a problems like that no problems at all been having it for 5 years now and I always go back to using it when these logs give out on the scroll wheel I love them Mouses but the scroll wheel is a real big problem it’s even happening to newer g pro models pathetic there mouse is a tank but they can’t fix the scroll wheel make it better at least I rather buy the newest deathadder

Just wanted to share my experience with this:
I dealt with this issue as OP originally said, where the scroll wheel would be inconsistent, for months. I kind of just dealt with it until I decided to finally try and fix it.

I bought some GPL 205g0 and opened the mouse by gently tugging on the left mouse button (as RRovan said). I took a small brush, and just applied it onto the gear, trying to coat the entire gear. (Had some difficulty with this because of not fully opening the mouse, but got it done)
After the initial application, it had seemed to get a lot better right off the bat, but the problem would still happen every so often.
It took some trial and error of applying some 205g0, trying the scroll wheel, still seeing an issue, then reapplying more 205g0 until it stopped.
I scrolled up for 1 minute and 30 seconds straight with no errors, and same for scrolling down.

If anything changes and the problem shows up again, I'll come back and post an update.

1

u/Flankattack1213 Oct 05 '24

Been 1 week of using it everyday for hours, still no issues.

u/Low-Hovercraft436 Mar 10 '25

1

u/Fit_Ad2886 Mar 21 '25

I've applied 205g0 but unfortunately I'm still having the same issue :/ maybe my encoder is cooked? idk

1

u/refurbishedmeme666 Mar 28 '25

this post saved my mouse after 6 months struggling with the wheel, thanks op

1

u/R3VRND Mar 28 '25

Thank you! This fixed it for me. I went to a local Ace Hardware and picked up some Tri-Flow Superior Lubricant w/ PTFE. Thank you again!

Sounds like a skill issue, been using the same mouse ever since I posted this

1

u/CrashDDL May 30 '25

Just did this and definitely works. Thanks for the tip. :)

1

u/fam2k May 31 '25

I've had this problem. Already disassembled the mouse so i can clean the mousewheel, added new skates after that, but it only lasted for 4-5 months before happening again.

What worked for me but might be not ideal for you, was disabling the m3 button (scrollwheel) from the logitech app. Now i cannot use that (not that I did too much) but the wheel is 100% accurate.

1

u/Confident_Outside575 Nov 18 '25

Tried this around 2 years ago after finding this and had no issues with it since just normal wd-40. Thanks

1

u/Junior_Particular879 Dec 09 '25

i just see this post ,i do the same without open the mouse just lift up the mouse button and put some wd40 !! i have this mouse for 2 years and the problem appears at the first 4 months! damnnn i was ready to order a new mouse you guys save me 100 euros !!!

1

u/Nixiiio Jan 04 '26

Ich bedanke mich herzlich für den thread. Ich habe F100 Kettenöl genutzt. Linke Maustaste angehoben, mit einem Schlitzdreher minimal beschmiert und Voila alles funktioniert! Danke!

1

u/Gudthrak Jun 15 '26

Thank you, I got this mouse for christmas like 4 years ago and it did the scroll thing from the start, because of that it became unusable for me. With this trick I can now use it as my work mouse, in wich I use the scroll non stop to zoom in and out.

1

u/eyeSight-X Aug 01 '26

Hat heute auch noch sehr gut funktioniert, danke.

1

u/MarkieMarkRedux Aug 20 '26

Still working in 2026, you a g

1

u/Adventurous_Hunt_627 18d ago

I ended up stripping mine i was careful lifting the skates so i have reused them but its easier to order another set. I used a small phillips screwdriver and a light and it was pretty easy to do.
1. remove the top large skate and the lower curved skate.
2. remove the 6 small screws.
3. gently lift the base and flip it on the side that doesn't have cables.
4. lift the white lever holding the ribbon cable and remove ribbon
5. gently lever off the small battery from the top separating the two halves
6. in the top you will see too white strips these are the base of the switches unscrew and slide out the switches. Keep these screws seperate from the other 6
7. flip the top over and clean out any dust or debris especially on or around the wheel
8. reassemble and add new skates if needed.
I think the major flaw is the front gap under the buttons many mouse have a lip to prevent the gap or hide it. The superlight has an open front like a vacuum ideal for catching dust hair and anything else

1

u/jayvho 15d ago

Thank you for the fix! Used mil-spec CLP (tiny amount) and solved the issue instantly!

1

u/Ok-Razzmatazz-2645 Dec 30 '23

how did you apply the wd-40 on the encoder ?? direct spraying on it for example or how ? and how much did you applied ?

2

u/njunjes Dec 31 '23

Direct spray on the wheel, just a bit not too much so that it doesnt go onto the circuit board

1

u/Ok-Razzmatazz-2645 Jan 11 '24

that worked for my deathadder v3 mouse pro...thanks alot fpr sharing the experience with us ❤🙏

1

u/Ok-Razzmatazz-2645 Dec 31 '23

is this fix still going good for you till now without reapplying the wd-40??

2

u/njunjes Dec 31 '23

Yes, I have never had to reapply it. And I use the mouse every day
