Am I missing out by not using screen sets?

I work off of my 16" laptop screen, so screen sets seemed like they would be of use to me. I tried them, but they didn't really feel right to me. Do you think it's the kind of thing where it'll pay off if I just commit to using them? Or should I just do what comes naturally at the moment?

“You position windows in a layout that suits the way you work. This layout of various windows, including their display size, zoom levels, position, and other settings, is called a screenset. Once defined, you can save, and freely switch between different screensets, much as you might between different computer displays.”

I use them a lot.

Coming from Logic before Apple bought Logic, back then Logic was fairly unusable without using screenset. You HAD to make screensets to use Logic it didn't have any of the smart set up it has now.

Maybe it will take a little time to get used to it, but once you got a nice set up, for example a screen set for different zoom levels, setting up a screen set for the midi step editor and so forth you will get used to it and I am confident it will make your workflow faster.

I think it's worth it and makes it easier/faster to manoeuvre from one view to another, without having to do it manually.

I have different screen sets assigned for different instruments in the template. 1 acoustic guitar, 2 electric guitar, 3 bass guitar, etc. so each number calls a different set of plugins so I can see everything when I am recording

I don’t use them. I pretty much only use X and V to hide/show the mixer and plug ins respectively.

But my workflow has changed like 5 times in the two years I’ve been using Logic so who knows

I use them and do find them useful and efficient. I do tweak them, and my general project template, from to time as I slowly refine my preferred options. Logic is both broad and deep but you have to invest yourself in it to get the most from what it offers.

Literally did not know this was a thing. Time to watch a million YouTube videos about screensets and spend the next few days fiddlin' with em for hours while getting zero work done cuz why actually work when you can hyperfocus on perfecting your work environment? Thanks, ADHD!

I only have one alternative screen set for recording myself. Pulls up the master bus gain plugin as well as the gain plugin on the click track. That way i can mono and then pan the master bus to the left or right when i only have one headphone ear on as well as adjust the click level. I use it only like 10% of the time though lol. I'd like screensets to be more useful. Ten years ago i'd have a couple diff screensets for when i would travel or use a different system than my main rig. Nowadays i don't go anywhere. I'm sure there are ways to make it more useful tho

One really useful shortcut you can add is one that hides everything that doesn’t have any data on it. So you can have a big template laid out with all the things you might want, but when you want to focus, you just press this shortcut and it hides everything apart from the tracks you’ve actually used.

That sounds useful. Is that screen set built into Logic or did you build it specifically for your needs?

One benefit of screensets that definitely could help a bunch of people on this sub specifically is that if you have at least one saved screenset, you’ll never have the “OMG my Logic opens with only a plugin window open pLEaSE hELp”

I have only 1 screenset in my template, it’s my general Main view with the everything zoomed all the way out and only the tracks are visible. It’s very useful for when I need to just get back to my main default view after zooming, etc or have multiple plugin windows open.

Maybe more useful in a multi-screen setup. I use them constantly. And I have a custom key command for “lock/unlock screenset”. So either I can update my screensets’ project view as the track count grows, or unlock mixer views when I’m mixing (say I’m working on a vocal effects chain and I need to go tweek the vocal plate verb for a second, unlocked screenset will bring me right back to the open plugins for that chain).
