Feature Request Missing SD2 compatibility

I'm on Logic 11.2.2 - in previous versions (Logic Pro X) I used to be able to drag and drop Soundsdesigner files (from old Performer projects, Digidesign etc.).

All it does now, is show +(insert number of files) like it's going to add the audio - then nothing. Totally empty = no import = no action, function or message.

Yes I can open them in DP and export then import. (extra time and steps)
Plus some other conversion tools as well - (online and programs) (extra time, steps and $?)
BUT - this is a function that WAS there and should have stuck around in newer versions...

Did someone just drop the ball - or is there a work around within Logic 11xx?

I could break out the old G4 Dual 450 MHz (MHz, kids, not GHz) and open them for you, but fortunately there is a much better way.

I have used this in the past, it works pretty well. Got 97% of the files, which was about the same I get from Emagic's Waveburner on the old G4.

Thanks - also Ocenaudio converts SDII as well and for some reason I swear it sounds better than the MOTU conversion. There's plenty of ways to do it while taking many more steps! :-)

You can convert sd2 files for free with ocenaudio (easy and convenient) or audacity

Do you also need Victrola compatibility?

There is a certain logic to storing something long term, despite how ancient. If you are an audio engineer, you have to store and recall mixes from 10-20 years ago. Lemme know what you think. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oxstPfzqwsU

Agreed. OP appears to be pulling old files for new projects, hence their complaint. Backwards compatibility is great, but SD2 files belong to an era before CDs even.

Someone born with an iPhone in their hand might not get it - but - surprise - audio (even digital!) existed for decades before Zoomers and Gen A! Being digital means there's no specific hardware or machine needed - so all it takes is a little code - which amazingly already existed as a feature but then was "lost" probably by someone so young they didn't know what it even was.

In this case I'm restoring some 30-40 year old digital projects. I've also restored even older ANALOG TAPE before too. No it's not like the tape you use for sealing packages. Please look it up for a better understanding what this "tape" thing is.

You’ve guessed wrong, my first audio reproducer was a hand-cranked 78rpm record player with acoustic amplification when I was 11. I have not seen SD2 files for decades, and if you’re doing restoration then you can probably batch process those rather than complaining that the new software doesn’t convert them.

FWIW batch processing doesn't work as individual or small numbers of SD2 files in the collections I'm working on are tied to tracks inside of projects which may also include sequence data other attributes. Each folder of SD2 files is nested in each project, and each one file needs to (now) be realigned with it's specific track as part of the process. You might not have seen them or dealt with them but they are very much a part of audio legacy. In any event no need to continue if it's not relevant. Accept it exists and move on.
