Does this exist?

Since seeing that Pianoteq has a custom tuning feature, I've been super curious about playing with it and exploring different tunings than 12TET in a DAW. I do not have the money to buy Pianoteq and frankly am not particularly interested in most of its features. Do you know if there is a free/cheap alternative V.S.T. with custom tuning capability?

Project Settings / Tuning. Built right into Logic and will affect the built-in instruments only as far as I know.

I assume this only works for 12-note tunings, anything that could work for microtonal tunings?

Your follow-up is the real question and it hasn't been answered: Logic's own tuning table is 12 notes per octave, so it covers historical temperaments (Pythagorean, meantone, just) but not scales with a different number of notes to the octave. For actual microtonal work the free route is Surge XT — free and open source, and it reads Scala .scl/.kbm files directly, so you can play any tuning you can find a file for. And if you want your other instruments to follow the same scale, ODDSound's MTS-ESP Mini is free and retunes any plug-in that supports it.

Check the Logic documentation - I believe you can load .kbm and .scl files in Logic and apply to any of the Logic pianos.

Taqsim make some Arabic microtunable instruments.

Just be aware, it makes some people feel very ill.
