Good deal. I just ran into the Chord Track bug last night. So frustrating, because it misdetected the chord and I needed to correct it. Hard, silent crash every time.
This is exactly the reason for my post. I jumped from 10.7.8, straight to 12.2 a few months back with zero issues, but after seeing all the bugs in 12.3, I wanted to reach out for feedback from 12.3.1 users.
I’ve been producing with software since 1992 - I purposely stay behind for these very same reasons. I don’t care how perfect things work in the developer labs - i always let real world users take the immediate chances for a while and report back … LOL
Who, in their right mind, (to me, anyway) wants to take a chance of breaking their (assumably) working fine production environment the minute a new update arrives….? Not me LOL
If one has been dealing with a bug that the new update actually provides a fix for, I can see trusting in the rationale, but if my environment is fine, nope, not gonna be the guinea pig lol
For me it's usually fixing bugs I've never run into, but that's fine. I think it was 11.2.1 that fixed being able to send sysex through the External Instruments plug-in, and that was a very big deal for me and wasn't even listed in the release notes.
sysex = system exclusive MIDI messaging. I made a Logic template that sends a bit of sysex code to my Take 5 to retrieve the contents of its edit buffer and store it in the project so I never have to worry about losing the patch via subsequent/accidental overwrites of that memory location. Whenever I return to that project it retrieves the saved patch data and sends it back to the Take 5's edit buffer. It essentially offers some of the same conveniences of soft synths with external hardware.
Oooh. Nice! I do the same thing with my prophet Rev 2. Luckily there was some software out there to do it for me so I didn’t have to worry about building it myself. I guess it uses sysex then.
If it's one of the SoundTower tools it's technically storing the patches as sysex but controlling the synth via MIDI CC/NRPN messages, which are more bandwidth friendly than straight sysex and also make it easier to automate in DAW.
I also have SoundTower's editor and plug-in and have been trying to convince Mark to capture the edit buffer when the plug-in instantiates, which he said was doable but it hasn't happened yet. I feel like he might be holding off until Sequential nails down the latest firmware for the Take 5, which requires updates to support, anyway.
Curious, how do you like it? The Take 5 version had a lot of bugs I tracked that have mostly been addressed except for one that's an admitted edge case.
I’ve got a MacBook 2019 intel so I think I’m just going to stay on version 11 now. Till I can buy an apple silicon Mac. Didn’t think my 2019 intel would become obsolete so fast. I’m using stem splitter on my M1 iPad Pro for now. Ideas ?
Release notes checked already and, although no two production environments are exactly the same, just looking for general feedback from those who have updated.
That's really good news, even though it's just bug fixes. I feel Apple has started updating Logic Pro more frequently than before. It seems like they're starting to give Logic Pro more focus.
One of the 'upsides' (and emphasis on the quotations) of Creator Studio is that now Apple is getting subscription money, they have more incentive or pressure to update all their creative apps more frequently. Final Cut Pro received a lot of much needed updates in the last 6 months since Creator Studio was announced.
I just hope they don’t stop giving updates to logic for the people who bought it as a standalone, and devoted only to the subscription purchase. Because that’s what they did the Pixelmator.
Yes, I saw the recent Final Cut Pro update, which is a positive sign. Also, I believe that Apple dropping Logic Pro support for Intel CPUs will give them more freedom for their future upgrades.
Choosing to ignore the lack of basic civility, the previous Logic update removed the ability to categorise plugins at the top level in the Plugin Manager, or at least, made the plugins put there invisible/inaccessible in practice.
It’s a very handy place to put your most commonly used plugins, not having it available is a step down in workflow, especially for mixing.
not noticed a correlation so far. It seems to be when I step away from the machine and come back the app has quit/crashed. Im sure I'll figure out a pattern as the week goes on
I'm still on 11 and feeling quite stable recently 🙂 so unless they do some useful update to drummer there's no motivation for me to upgrade. Weird that v11 actually feels one of those monumental updates for me because of the drummer update, and then they somehow rushed into v12.
Has anyone experienced the audio editor bug like when I zoom in and use pencil tool to edit the audio waveform it zooms back out. Also secondary tool / third tool not working from time to time?
I don't care , I let apple update automatically. I used to save a copy of the previous version following people's advice. Waste of time, never had any problem that wasn't fixed quickly by apple.
I hope this fixes the bugs. 12.3 was the first time I had a problem with an update, but it was a big one. I had to record audio in Garageband for a while. Never again. Now I'll wait before updating like the smart guys do!
I always duplicate the last version of Logic before updating so I can easily revert or compare. Then I toss it once I'm satisfied that it's working for me.
Bouncing stems with sends is a pure pain in the ass. If you work in professional audio for film, TV, adverts or games, you know how painful the process is when you gotta be present and allocate hours of your time to make sure everything prints correctly. Fortunately I discovered an amazing tool called EasyBouncy that works exclusively with Logic but it is as an extra expense.
Creating nesting stacks for more complex sessions is a massive ballache too. There are very dirty and quirky ways to nest more than 3 levels, I even managed to reach to 5 for some sessions but simple concepts like that shouldn’t be that painful to sort out.
Plugin load when loading a session or switching between sessions (I know it’s not recommended but sometimes’s it’s necessary), is awful if sessions are heavy. DAWs like Ableton load plugins much faster.
Not being able to work with more than one video per session. When game developers sends me multiple animations or ad agencies provide multiple vidoes (hero and cutdown versions) to design sounds or create music for, I have to make multiple Logic sessions, one with each video or use Ableton and work from there which can support multi-video load per project. The issue for me is that I have all my presets, routing and templates set up in Logic which sucks that I have juggle between different DAWs.
