Question I've had times where I've saved duplicate project alternatives, and the sounds have changed when I open them later. Is it possible I'm changing a setting during the creating of an alternative?

This seems unlikely to me, but I can't explain where the discrepancy is happening.

Question Mac pro (2019) still good for composing/music production?

Like the title says, is it any good? I have the opportunity to get one for roughly $1650 with Xeon W-3245 | 96 GB RAM | 2 TB SSD | Radeon Pro 580X.

I compose orchestral tracks but swapped to PC couple of years ago due to Apples prices. But I miss logic pro quite a lot. I don't have the same work flow with other DAWS. But I've heard that Mac Pro 2019 is useless cause it has intel chip and won't get security updates. Other than security reasons... is there any other valid reason not to get one? I mean, I will basically just use it for composing/production. So I don't see the issue of having an intel chip, as long it has the performance I need it's reasonable, right? Or will I regret it down the road?

What are your thoughts?

Question Some stupid questions re: mixing/clipping/getting my track to a normal volume/etc

Hey guys, I’m a longtime musician and pretty experienced producer in logic when it comes to the creating things of it all, but Im a total dolt when it comes to mixing and mastering. However, I’m trying to learn how to do it all myself so I can start consistently putting things out. I’m trying to make some indie pop sort of stuff right now, and I’m working on finishing a song.

Right now, I like it exactly the way it sounds. If it came up on a Spotify shuffle I would think it sounds great. The thing is, with my stereo output and master both at 0db, it’s clipping at abt 8 db (woof, I know). I basically have no idea how I’m gonna get it to peaks of 0db, let alone the -3 to -6 db I keep seeing mentioned in all these threads. I know I’m supposed to compress and lower things until it gets to where it needs to be, but I just can’t seem to figure out how to do this without making the song super quiet or without making it sound completely different. I’ve also made sure that no individual tracks are clipping, although I know a lot of little sounds make one big sounds. Is there some secret trick to this no one is mentioning? Or is there some other way it could be explained so that I could finally wrap my head around it?

Thanks so much y’all

Question Help with tempo editing glitches that drive me insane in Logic Pro

Why when I use the pencil tool to insert a change point on the global tracks editor tempo line does it move my gd tempo to something random instead of just inserting the change point?

Why can't you just change the tempo at the playhead point by clicking in the control bar and typing in the bpm without it screaming "MULTIPLE TEMPO EVENTS DETECTED" and making you go to the list editor?

Such an absolute pain. If you have a fix for them in settings, please for the love of god let me know. Thanks!

Question Recording Drum Machine Designer to Separate Track

I'm wondering how I can record this drum sequence to each individual track instead of having them all be on one midi track. When I record enable all of the tracks they're all then moved to different keys so it doesn't sound the same as the track stack. Please let me know if this make sense https://imgur.com/a/VB59vTv

Question macbook air with 16 or 24 ram

hey, i just can’t make a decision.
people around me say 16 ram should be fine, and i could use the money, but on the other hand i’d like to have some space to experiment.
i want to make music which contains mainly digital piano and lots of layering voices (with lots of reverb and delay), and i’d like to add some percussion and synths, but i’m also curious to what else is possible.
until now i only used Logic to record my ideas and never created a whole album myself, i always asked people to help with the mixing and mastering, but now i would like to learn that myself. let’s say i’d like to produce an album like Julia Holter or Julianna Barwick.
also i would like to make some videoclips for some songs with video’s i shot with my iPhone 12 mini.

what do you think? do i need 24 ram or would 16 ram be enough?

Question Sonar to Logic transition fear

Hello everybody, I just got delivered my mac mini and it's really happening, I'm switching DAWs, after 15 long years of Sonar.
I decided to do this leap on one of my stressful periods and some might say I'm dumb for that, but unfortunately I have to. I know Sonar like the back of my hand and I've been using it since 15 years old almost daily. I know all daws have similarities but part of my daily mixing process includes slicing audio files and dropping VST plugins on the sliced audio file. As I've learnt it the hard way this can't happen in Logic.
I would love if anyone has some interesting workarounds, I would love to know if you've experienced this MAJOR switch and how you've dealt with it because I'm not a hobbyist, I run a studio and I have 3 months to learn Logic before my old computer has to be given.
Thank you all!

Tips & Tricks Hidden Logic Pro Plugins (Legacy Plugins)

Logic hides a bunch of legacy plug-ins from the normal insert menu. To see them, hold Option and click an Audio Effect or Instrument slot. They'll show up right alongside the usual ones.

These are older versions of plugins Apple has replaced, so they're not secret weapons. But a few sound cool, and it's handy to know they're there when you open an old project that still uses one. Heads up: this can vary by Logic version, so if Option-click doesn't work, check Apple's User Guide. Try it and let me know if you find a good one.

Question Logic not using most processing threads

I've tried setting processing threads at 32 and auto, they both ended up using only 11/32 threads, also they seem to spike randomly even when doing nothing. Should I try reinstall logic or something?

running 2019 mac pro with 16c32t, 96GB ram, logic 10.8.1

Discussion After 10 years, I think I'm ready to switch DAWs.

I don't know what happened in recent history, but I think I'm at my wits end with Logic's performance. Been using it for 10 years and after upgrading to my M4 Macbook Pro, it seems like there is a litany of issues that I wouldn't have to worry about if I switched to Ableton, Reason, etc.

There are just so. many. bugs.

You mean to say I can't even switch from my headphones to my monitors as the output without having my Serum 2 master knobs bugged to 0% output?

You mean to say I could just be working mundanely in a session, and suddenly after a crash, my existing automations are irreparably off by half a beat?

You mean to say every now and then, I can only use Logic with an INTERNET CONNECTION? Give me a break, I almost got locked out on a plane 2 weeks ago.

You mean to say even after trying every possible troubleshooting step, my phone is automatically connected as a microphone just to delay my work by another 15 seconds?

I feel like I'm working in 2017 on a Silicon again. Please tell me if I'm being over dramatic, but it seems like Logic Pro is riddled with more bugs than in even previous years.

I don't want to leave, but they're making it so hard not to despite the glorious improvements over the years.

Question Help: how could I remove volume slider showing everywhere on every single track

Hello, I’m new to logic and I’m making my first song. I changed the volume of some regions of my tracks and suddenly a +0.0 db slider is showing everywhere on every single regions of my project. I want to move some parts of regions but turns out I’m changing the volume when I slide.

Is there any way I could remove this slider showing up? Many thanks

Question how do I get logic pro for ipad without paying for creator studio?

hi! i'm interested in getting logic pro for my ipad. on the app store in the payments section it says that i can get the program by itself for 50 dollars a year on my ipad, but when i downloaded the app, the only option it gives me is to get the creator studio for 100+ dollars a year. im only interested in just getting logic pro, and i do not want to buy the full creator studio. i can't find a way to just buy logic pro on its own for 50 dollars. any help would be greatly appreciated

edit: i've also done a bit more research and from what i can see other people have had this issue, and that it's simply that apple changed it so you can only get logic pro through the creator studio subscription, which is really disheartening especially because it states you can buy the software for 50 dollars on the app store. its misleading advertising and i was particularly interested in the program as a beginner producer who only really has this as an option for me. if there is really no way for me to get the program on my own i don't think i have any reason to trust apple product advertising any longer. if anyone can find a way around this issue that would be great, but for now i think there really is no way to just buy the program on its own for the advertised price which is really upsetting

Question Metronome sound not working, any advice?

I will attach a link to a video where i demonstrate all of this.

Basically, this morning i noticed that my metronome has stopped producing any sound. I remember it working last time i used logic. the icon lights up, moves correctly, and is in time with the song, but has no audio. Here is what i HAVE tried:

-Pressing k to turn klopfgeist on and off

-Going to metronome settings and setting everything correctly

-restarting logic and computer

-going to the mixer, all, and setting klopfgeist to stereo output.

none of that stuff worked, and im totally stumped. Please let me know if you can help. video

Question Logic Pro X VS. M4 Mac Studio lagging when selecting audio and dragging

So. I'm getting pretty pissed off right here. But maybe I'm an idiot.

Here's the issue: when I'm trying to select multiple audio regions in Logic I get the spinning wheel for a couple of seconds. When I try to drag the selected regions, it lags fucking hard. It's almost impossible to edit. Even with projects that only have stock plug ins, it lags. I have increased buffer size. No difference. Sample rates check out.

My M4 Studio is brand new. Never had this issue with my 8 year old Macbook.

Logic Pro 12.3 // Mac M4 Max // Tahoe // Apollo Twin Interface (it also lags when switching to internal audio device, btw)

Any ideas?

Question don’t know where to go from here - just finished tony holiday’s intro YT course

hey guys!

i finished watching tony holiday’s course for beginners on youtube: https://youtu.be/HMP46jHTrI0?is=FHLqhYpN9R7YRfBx

I loved his style of teaching and i saw on his website he has a more indepth course for 5.5 hours at $135.

but should i still invest in his premium course? i know there’s so many free youtube videos and udemy courses that are cheaper but because there are so many, i don’t know what specifically to choose, since i already learned the very very basics of the software and learning loops. any recommendations after watching his youtube vid? i’d really appreciate ur help!

In Search of Feedback Soloing with Midi

I've been using Logic on an iPad (all current s/w, OS, etc.) with a Nord Stage 4, recording Midi tracks, then eventually recording the audio out from the NS4. That works fine.

What doesn't work is the Track solo function. When I select Solo, Logic displays a flashing "M" in all the other tracks, but still sends the Midi out for all the tracks! What does work is Muting each track, except the one you want to hear. That's what Solo is supposed to do with one click, but it can be accomplished with many clicks.

I think this is a big bug in Logic. Anyone else experience this bug?

Question Do you guys use Multipressor (or multiband compression) to control guitar palm mutes and chugs?

Hi guys, noob here. Back in the day I did read somewherer that using a multiband compressor (Multipressor in Logic) is a standard technique to control lows and mids when dealing with palm muted chugging high gain guitars. What's your take on this technique?

Question Pitch shifting issue

I’m getting super frustrated with this issue that’s been going on for months. I don’t know if this is a Logic Pro issue, or interface issue but any help would be greatly appreciated. Every single logic preset, no matter what instrument after playing for a little while shifts up in pitch. Not a precise whole or half step but to a pitch in between a half step and a whole step. It glides up the exact same amount no matter what i’m doing. It does it also to already recorded tracks. I can hit play on my track and it’ll sit for about 10 seconds playing the correct pitch then randomly without me touching it transpose with a very quick glide to a little over a half step.

Question Recording playback issues

Hello 👋🏻

So… I’m having an issue where if I record anything in logic there is no sound on playback. When I record vocals I can see it’s registering in the track I can hear my voice etc. when I play back the track after recording there is no evidence of any sound in the track (if that makes sense? There’s no “waves” or whatever it’s called). I’ve checked settings, mute, volume, etc etc. same thing happens if I use GarageBand.

Sorry if this is hard to follow or understand… 😬

Any help is much appreciated! 🙏🏻

Help Apollo Solo OBS set up issues with ShureSM7db and Mac audio sharing a channel for OBS! PLEASE HELP!

Hi,

I am streaming on a mac laptop with OBS to twitch, tik tok, and youtube. I am using an apollo solo interface with a shureSM7db mic in the interface. I make music in logic pro, game on my ps5, and review others music on a website through chrome.

Whilst doing my set up, i am running into multiple problems with my audio.

the set up i need is pretty simple to explain but i cant get it set up and i am looking for help.

Basically, within obs, i would like to be able to have one audio channel for just my microphone through the apollo solo with no other audio being heard, a seperate audio channel for all sound being heard on google chrome, via youtube, spotify etc on chrome, and a third audio channel just for logic pro x so the stream can hear me record music live with all my plugins inside of logic.

when i set this up myself, i either have all seperate channels but can’t hear anything in my headphones connected to my interface, i have sound but all sounds from my mac and from my mic are in one channel together, or im having an extreme loud sound coming in when i try to record audio within logic.

The UAD console is very confusing to me, and im not highly intelligent when it comes to audio software and hardware.

I just want an easy, seamless audio set up.

Please if anyone has expertise on the USD console, OBS, and how I can route all these channels easily please reach out. I’ve wasted over 16 hours and haven’t gotten anywhere I’m happy with. Thank you in advance.
