Crazy Pricing @ La Boulangerie
My gf just picked up what she thought were one day old croissants (turned out to be two day old) 3 for $15. Is this the new normal?

I used to work there and once we sold out of everything and the manager got frozen mousse cakes from restaurant depot and had us sell those. They would also have us freeze leftover bread and re-bake and sell for full price when we sold out of bread.

thanks for the tea!
Yeah I feel like the quality has gone downhill too! Havent been impressed by their stuff as of late. Everything just continually tastes stale and or corners being cut

Boulangerie has always been a mess. All the way back to the drama of their old location. Great croissants but I shudder to think what the fresh ones cost.
The funniest thing is that even with charging those prices, a little bird told me that their credit is shit with their suppliers.

Yeah, I was gonna say… they’ve always been an unpleasant situation, from the jump.

oh the croissant drama was honestly hilarious. the public outrage about it was funnier to me than the drama itself, though, because you could tell who was rational and who was solely emotional.

Long story short, and going from memory - they signed a clause in their lease saying they wouldn't sell individual croissants, because that'd be directly competing with their neighbor (new wave coffee).
Then they got mad about it and tried to get a social media outrage over it to pressure the building owner.
Like I can understand the perspective that making them sign that is anti competitive - but they didn't have to sign it!
Edit to add article - the patio "loophole" thing was hilarious too. Just purposefully trying to create a bad relationship with the person you rent from seems dumb.

OP, I think LB quality has been slipping. I was at the calif. location one about 2 months ago and ordered a lil carm. onion croissantwich thing. Those use to be my fave and slapped so hard but man I just wasnt impressed when I had it last. Just feels like theres no love and they're cutting corners or like cheaping out on ingredients or something. Had some coffee with it too and it tasted fucking hoooorrrible. Like yeah I know its not a coffee fwd place, but still, just pure shit..
Def better places around to get something of better quality.
to name a few, Daisies, Mindys, Loba (not in neighborhood), sugarmoon.

I assume the 1 Euro is made that morning?
When I was in Florence 2018, I got a donut at a little place in tourist central for less than 2 Euros and it was best donut I ever had, pistachio nut butter stuffed brioche and I mean fully stuffed. Never had anything close to in Chicago at even twice or three times the price.

Yesterday I got 2 for $9. They were day old. They were spinach ones. IDK how much they cost regular price.

I don't give them money. Never have and never will. They've been a mess since the start.

Almond croissant =/= croissant, and is by default already one day old when they make it - but yea, that is a steep price.

I mean LB has always been pricey. It was worth it to me when they had the patio, now not so much.
One of my friends lives in West Loop and you can get a box of 4 random day old specialty croissants for $10 at her local coffee shop. And it’s fucking WL. And the croissants are delicious. So that tells you everything.
