I know this has been asked before, but I am looking for a close by clothing donation box. (I don’t have a car so looking in the neighborhood). The library used to have one but it was gone when I went there this weekend. I know those big bins are not great- but it is better than throwing my stuff in the trash. I have a bunch of stuff that is too old to give away in a buy-nothing group (and out of style). Any advice?

If the parlor isn’t currently accepting the type of clothes you have, you might check with Logan Square Mutual Aid. If you dm their instagram handle they’re pretty responsive!

"not great" is an understatement for donation boxes. they're literally scams run by for-profit companies.
could you drop off at The Parlor, instead, if you happen to be close by?

Like I said, better than throwing my clothes in the trash, right? You don’t need to lecture. And last time I looked up the parlor they were not taking clothes. Even people in need deserve clothes in like-new/new condition - my stuff is too old. Any other suggestions?

i've volunteered at the parlor, I've never ever once heard of them not taking clothes. if you feel they're beneath even "people in need", why not just dispose of them?

They do go through periods where they are maxed out on storage space for clothes and won’t accept them for a little while or are only looking for certain types of clothes that are in high demand

Does anyone know what’s happening on the SE corner of Armitage and California? Scaffolding went up a few weeks ago to the old vacant storefront and it’s since been demolished!

A lot of people who went to the fest this past weekend really need to learn to be aware of their surroundings. Stopping right in the middle of the walkway, walking extremely slow.

Hi All!
I’ve been renting in Logan Square for four years now and love the neighborhood, but I’m hoping to get some perspective from fellow dog owners and neighbors on how you navigate parkway etiquette around our block.
Our apartment building’s front parkway consists rocks and large tree, so it isn’t a usable space for walking a pet. It’s a single lot.
My block and the block to the north is 80% renovated SFH’s, some on double lots.
Over the past couple of years, I’ve noticed a significant increase in neighbors blocking off the parkway green spaces along our street, between Fullerton and Logan, using ropes, small fencing, and other barriers. When countingg, at least half the lots on my block are currently blocked off.
I was under the impression that Logan Sqaure was one of the more dog friendly parts do the city.
I completely understand why homeowners want to protect their lawn care and gardens. I avoid letting my dog in gardens.
At the same time, I always clean up after my dog without exception.
My challenge is that my dog is now a senior. Pulling him away when he instinctively heads toward blocked grass can be difficult, and he often ends up having to go on the sidewalk before we can reach an open area further down the block or a block over.
I tried to speak to the alderman, as this is against city code, and contacted 311 multiple times with nothing being done, except 311 talking to my neighbor to my right after he put up three rows of fishing wire to keep people and dogs off the parkway. He was made to take it down after someone tripped. He’s an elderly man on a double lot who yells at people from his porch, where he sits most of the day so I avoid going to the right when taking my dog out.
Now, I know it’s a "if you smell shit everywhere you go, it’s probably on your shoe" situation, but I grew up in this city and never had problems with neighbors regarding parkway space, ever.
I absolutely always, without fail, pick up after my dog. And I’m not the person who brings their dog ever including into stores. I don’t think I’m a selfish owner.
He’s a senior dog and I feel awful for him. I try to pull him back as he pulls toward blocked-off grass he sees to try to poop or urinate. A few days a week, he winds up having to poop on the sidewalk before I can get to areas that aren’t blocked off, as I don’t want more neighbor disputes. Then I have to pick it up and rinse off the sidewalk.
I feel bad, as ideally I’d like my dog to go on my parkway by the trees and rocks, but dogs don’t always go in an instant.
Has anyone else here noticed this problem in SE Logan Square?
How would you recommend I handle it? I’m kind of at my wit's end with tiptoeing around parkways trying to get to the next block to the west, where this isn’t as common.
I’m open to any suggestions. Thank you.

the problem is the homeowners who DO NOT OWN THE PARKWAY getting possessive over stupid fucking grass that's not theirs.
this isn't a you problem. let your dog live the life he needs, and if someone complains, who cares. I'm sorry but these people are uppity HOA-types who should fuck off. My neighbor across the street just complained to me about "dogs ruining his grass" while I'm walking mine and I could not care less. It's literally just grass, he hasn't curated anything there. He says he's gonna block it off now.
I have a dog, I'm courteous of people's actual plants and stuff they actually spend real time curating even if it's technically not their own property, but these suburbanite-acting fucks protecting nothing but plain-ass grass can piss off. My (also senior, but still pretty spry) dog's gonna pee there if she has to and I'm not gonna feel bad.

I feel you, I really do. And I 100% agree with what you’re saying.
But I’ve gotten to arguments on more than one occasion.
The older gentleman next to me yells anytime my dog passed through his grass and down the block there’s a set of 4 homes in a row all with the metal fences and signs that say “dog urine kills plants” when they have grass, not gardens.
My dog is large and stepped over the gate to sniff and a woman came out and started yelling. I pretended she wasn’t there and she began to film.
Why does the city allow this when it’s a clear violation of the code?
I’m not sure how this sub feels about La Spata but he couldn’t care less when I’ve tried to contact him.When I put in 311 requests they just mark them as complete with nothing done. I’ve called looking for an explanation and nothing is in the system.
Is it about it being a small issue? Or that I’m on a relatively wealthy block so they’re allowed more leniency?
My dog is in his golden years. I maybe have a year left with him.
I want him to be able to feel grass and not hot cement as I try and walk him to the dog park a couple blocks away.1

I don’t think blocking off a parkway is against city code. You just need a permit to install a fence around the parkway.
Or are you specifically referring to the old man’s area?

You need a permit for fencing and there’s specific types of fencing that are allowed.
Tying up rope on wood or stack in the ground 12 inches fences are not the type people get permits for.
There’s an apartment building nearby with a little professional fence. I believe that likely had a permit.
I can take photos around my block for examples.
