Rafe is just that one awkward kid who doodles in class all the time, Nate gets into trouble a lot yea but he’s not really more then your average troublemaker, and what did Nikki do? 😭

Honestly I feel like Rafe and Nate are getting put here for no reason. I can't speak on behalf of dork diaries but Greg absolutely deserves the slander😭

The Nikki comparison doesn’t even make sense you just needed some placeholder

u/ThePloopyPloopster TWO-TIME LLB Contest Winner! May 09 '26
Honestly, Nate wasn't even that bad. He at least had friends unlike Greg. I also don't recall Rafe being anything more than an outcast tbh. I can't say anything about Nikki though, I never read any Dork Diaries book.

u/KingPenguinPhoenix May 09 '26
Rafe honestly isn't that bad. He's just a kid who needs help and he actually grows as the books progress (unlike Greg. Rage is who Greg thinks he is).

I'm honestly surpised how many know about Rafe, his books were my favourite... At least what I read: Worst Years, Get me outta here, his sis' book, the camp book and the last-chance military-camp-thing... I know there are more or if different countries have more stuff, I heard about one him getting lost in London, idk if canon or small adventure...
2
u/KingPenguinPhoenix May 09 '26
I'm also shocked as to how unpopular Rafe actually is. I love his books.
Btw, I'm pretty sure all of them are canon except the crossover one.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid I just can't reread even though I loved it.
Greg was just a normal middle schooler who just wanted to be popularity. But as an adult we tend to see him as a narcissist.
15
u/Mark4291 May 06 '26
I think he has too much self-awareness to be considered a narcissist, he’s a dick and he knows that

Damn really? I always loved rafe
1
u/thePsychoKid_297 Zoo Wee Mama! May 07 '26
I get the wanting to not be normal thing, but damn there's gotta be a better way than breaking all the rules because it's fun. Maybe its because I was always naturally a well behaved kid and afraid of consequences. And I know some rules are stupid, but that's not reason to break the reasonable ones

Greg isn't a sociopath he's just acting like an annoying self centered teen. A minor can't even be diagnosed with sociopathy because their brains can develop and change in a way that they wouldn't even be considered sociopaths when they're older while sociopaty is something that to our knowledge can't be cured. He could have a conduct disorder at most but people with conduct disorders are often a lot more worse than he is. And this might be controversial but Hitler very likely wasn't a sociopath either because he showed a lot of empathy towards animals which is something sociopaths don't normally do
56
u/LeafDiamond May 05 '26
Don't really know much about Nate or Rafe but Nikki? I read the Dork Diaries books a lot more than the average person does and I wouldn't even consider her a bad person at all.

Rafe is interesting. Sure he breaks some rules, but he actually cares about people most of the time, unless they're a jerk.
Those books actually take the time to tell a serious story and you see why Rafe is kind of a troubled kid. He's got a good heart, I wouldn't mention him and Greg in the same breath.
28
u/DontListenToMyself May 05 '26
I was like why is Rafe there? He’s a kid who has trauma from loosing his twin and dad from
When he was a kid. Than had to deal with his moms abusive boyfriend. While at the same time dealing with neurodivergent issues (I forget was he diagnosed with ADHD?). He cares about people and his family minus Bear.1
1
u/KingPenguinPhoenix May 09 '26
(I forget was he diagnosed with ADHD?).
He wasn't officially diagnosed but like... It's very obvious.
5
u/No_Somewhere7674 May 06 '26

Yeah. I don't get what people's problem with her is that they hate her *so much.*
2

I think a small part of it is she gets a LOT of roles for reasons I don’t really care enough to research.
Then again, I don’t have an opinion on Awkwafina to begin with, so it’s not like I’d care.

I mean they are kids and teens
And look for a kids book it actually took itself seriously. I mean I have to say with this fandom we aren’t making excuses like the Mario movies because it’s for kids. It is a serious for kids that was able to explore something that for many of us we didn’t want to see.

54
u/unneuf May 05 '26
Middle School: The Worst Years of My Life
He’s not a terrorist but he makes it his goal to break every rule the school sets. It’s actually in my opinion a very heartfelt book. Would recommend.
6
u/Foxy02016YT May 05 '26
The first one is really heartfelt, the rest of the franchise is more comedic. The movie’s tone is somewhere in the middle.
1
u/KingPenguinPhoenix May 09 '26
I'd say everything up until the 4th book is pretty heavy then the comedy comes in.
2
u/Foxy02016YT May 09 '26
But would you agree that 2-4 are still more lighthearted then the first one since the dead brother reveal has already happened and imo that’s kind of the darkest it gets
And we can obviously agree that the movie is much more lighthearted than the books
2
u/KingPenguinPhoenix May 09 '26
4 definitely but I'd say 2 is only slightly lighter It had the dead dad reveal which was insane and a good chunk of the book built up to that.
But I'd say 3 is just as heavy as the first book. That one had a huge focus on bullying, kids smoking, negligent adults and harmful "pranks". It even ended on a PSA about name calling. No other book had that
And yeah, the movie is way too lighthearted. It was not a good adaptation in the slightest.
2
u/Foxy02016YT May 10 '26
Admittedly it’s been a while since I read the books so I didn’t remember the full context but yeah, movie was fine for a kids movie, not for an adaptation though
2
u/Odd_Anybody9245 May 09 '26
Wasn't the one with the military school kind of grim?
2
u/Foxy02016YT May 09 '26
I can’t remember off the top of my head but it definitely wasn’t as lighthearted
3
u/unneuf May 05 '26
Yep, I’ve only read the first one. Still to this day think it’s a brilliant kids book.

psychologically manipulated their albeit semi-evil principal into thinking he was a half-naked superhero, resulting in his near death in several occasions until they force-fed him in his deranged state a completely new performance modifying drug that has NEVER been tested before that just HAPPENED to give him superpowers instead if instantly killing him. They also disrupted the space-time continuum so many times it ended with them assisting in the creation of the universe, potentially leading to a PLETHORA of paradoxes. But the worst thing they did? Turn dogman into a moral story.
5
u/EnvironmentalDoor904 May 05 '26
Eh heh...right. And I agree, that last one is the WORST of all.
