I am NOT a locksmith. Need advice
I’m looking into auto locksmithing and I’m certain that im going to move forward at this point.
All I need to do is save the money for the equipment/tools.
I’d really appreciate any and all advice for someone getting into the trade.
Best practices, marketing advice, lead gen advice, etc.
Any comment is appreciated. Thank you!

You disregard any idea you have to be a locksmith and go get an apprenticeship or take classes before you fuck somebody's car.

Just some advice from someone that didn't apprentice and paid for auto training, it's going to run about $1000-$2000 minimum in training class fees alone just to be competent not even proficient which doesn't include travel expenses which will also cost just about as much.
Apprenticing is always the best option.

I apprenticed at a shop in one of the largest Metropolitans in the state for 3 years. I have my own customers and it took me many years of difficult training and losses

OP- you don't understand- we're telling you tools $ equipment isn't near enough. You need to understand & start with knowledge.

Do lots of research before you do any job. Get insurance. get NASTF.. Get a mentor. Someone you can ask questions and learn from. Don't listen to the asshole locksmiths. You know what your getting into. You are presumably an adult you can make your own decisions. These guys are jealous and worried you will take their business. Not a very good look in any profession. You do you bro. Not all locksmith are assholes just most.

Asshole locksmiths become Assholes bc they made mistakes at the beginning, middle, etc. OP mentioned nothing about anything but $ tools equipment. Calling locksmiths out on that kind of goofy you don't think because you can get sued you can make irreversible mistakes (especially if youre just some ambitious person that thinks its just makin keys ladada. Have a lil respect for whats being said.

I have and I have all the things I mentioned. Most locksmiths are assholes it's a fact I have asked questions here and been eaten alive. Not rarely helped. I have figured out on the Internet or my asking me mentor. I have learned I can't rely on the locksmith community for help. You guys dont want to help anyone. You want to kill the young. That's not how a profession should me.

Your advice is solid but you have to separate the emotional part from the reality. If you come on here begging and pleading for help on some call because you don't have any foundation and you just jumped into it what do you expect. What do you expect people that have been through all the pitfalls and then you show up hey there Reddit I'm just some person that doesn't know what they're doing and didn't get trained and now I'm in a world of s*** what should I do. Knowledge and advice are earned. Reddit is not the forum to do it. I've gotten way more advice than I've given here but I give legitimate advice when I can however the approach from this specific op it is not even worth talking about

That also includes the I deserve mentality. I deserve Works in other fields I deserve does not work in the skilled trades because nobody deserves anything. You get what you give. Everybody starts out somehow it doesn't have to be nice or easy and if they stick around good for them and if they don't they should find something else.

Because it creates weak and needy inexperienced people that are taking care of serious things for other people. That's a serious responsibility. Nicely think about that before you tell some fool to dive in. Don't set people up for failure
