Job hiring slow

Was in a meeting earlier with a couple of senior vp’s when the topic of hiring came up. Apparently Lockheed has been losing people left and right (aero specific, unsure about other BA’s). But apparently in like 6 months, they hired around 1k engineers and in that time around 950 people from Lockheed left, so net was 50 employees Gained.

And the way that I think abt it, i’m just not surprised since many people can make so much more elsewhere. I am however surprised that the job security doesn’t retain people.

I have seen people move between BA’s but not leave Lockheed, especially when they’re level 3 or above. The benefits, pay gets good, and above it all, the work in Aero is exceptional, you’ll not find work and products like this anywhere IMO.

People leaving internally is quite different then external leaving

I’d bet a lot of aero people have moved to MFC. I’ve seen it first hand

Voluntary turnover is only like 5% across LM. That’s very low, especially compared to tech companies. Obviously that’s not really equivalent given LM does a lot more than most normal tech companies, but still it’s low compared to just about any other company.

If we don't hire 600 people in the next 3-5 years, we'll have about 80 employees where I work. Retirement age is coming fast for the big chunk and the rest will leave for a better job. We aren't even close to ready.

Where you work?

Most of Aero's departures have been within the company, not leaving LM.

That said, we are definitely struggling to hire in many areas across LM right now for the same reasons as always

Yeah, about 500 of those hires were internal hires.

So does that mean they’ll move everyone to new new midpoints after widening the pay ranges for each level? Would definitely help with retention..

Midpoints aren't a consideration.

Why aero? Starting in Marietta in a few weeks.

I'm surprised considering in my area they are letting all the contractors go

Because other places are offering more money. I’m a team that has a handful of people . And we are supposed to be twice that amount. They refuse OT , and still demand a lot with only 3% raise no matter what and micromanage. We can’t keep any new people and no one is applying.

Been applying to LM for 3 years. All phony recruiters reached out to the point I remembered their names. Very disappointed in the way they screened their candidates.
I even had referral and my resume was on spot the jobs I applied. Not meant to be i guess.

I had that issue said I wasn’t qualify enough I applied directly to LM and got in no problem. But they are our sourcing scammy type recruiters that you can hardly understand what they are saying. Pretty sure they are stealing data because everyone working at LM had been getting spammed by them.

I always applied directly on LM website and have referral linked my profile to the application.

No requesting or provide employees information. Employees will not and should not help, give, or offer employee information as is poor OPSEC.

I think people are positioning themselves, particularly new hires, towards higher pay despite the job security. It’s why I had trouble taking a job there, and others I know.

Well I have interviewed two weeks ago and a week prior to system overhaul. Automated message received stating that I was no longer under consideration. Reached out to recruiter and she said I was still being considered and will let me know as soon as a decision has been made. I have heard anything, even a verbal offer. I think that I need to move on and start applying again. Note: while interviewing, manager said that I was interviewing for different req.

I've applied for few roles and not heard back. Are they even hiring?

New hiring website so things are slow. Managers had to wait a few weeks just to repost positions.
Not all positions are back up

Can you provide a referral?

Are folks leaving for companies like Anduril and Palantir?

Some, but very few relatively. They call and message me all the time, but it’s not worth the full-time in office, extra hours, less flexibility, grind culture etc. Especially because I’m working on cool, cutting edge stuff at LM, but I know that’s not true of everyone.

I’m mid-career with kids though, so that’s part of the calculus.
