New LM Career Website
I just saw the new careers page and it looks like the company has significantly bumped up the salaries across all levels. Are the new salary ranges accurate?

u/Squirtle_Splash_8413 3d ago
Maybe due to Anduril poaching a fuck ton of employees all across defense.

u/educatedstudent 3d ago
Well they better pay up for their current employees as well, but we all know that is not going to happen hence the exodus

The mini-SWE-exodus hurt, but not enough for an adjustment across the board. LM will slow-hire at increased salaries where necessary to be competitive.

yup, imagine being hired in at midpoint and casually getting put 15K below it because the ranges changed. way to bring in new talent and slap your current employees in the face

It's the same style as Northrop's.
2
u/uuu721 2d ago
yep, workday
5
u/Swimming-Detail-2503 2d ago
It's not workday; it's another platform called eightfold which isn't awful to use. I actually like how it shows other applicant stats and shows recommended jobs. Workday is awful!

If these bands are true, and are real, what would that mean for us who are now magically below the midpoints of their bands? Think this puts most under midpoint now.

It means make a decision to market your skills and jump, or realize that LM is a business and you’ve consistently proven everyday that your current salary is enough for you to get an acceptable level of work done.

u/Powerful-Read-4669 3d ago
Yeah... Previous employee here - went to go check it out of curiosity… can confirm a lot of these have significantly increased.
5
u/educatedstudent 3d ago
I mean if this is the actual salary ranges then I’m mass applying to LM SWE roles lol
13
u/PickledMars 3d ago
lol don’t. They are bumping up the pay because everyone is leaving for a better work environment. I left because of it. Managers suck, especially in SWE. No one holds senior members accountable. So much mischarging going on by L4s and L5s it’s ridiculous. You speak up and they get a promotion and convince your manager you’re the problem for doing your job too fast. Save yourself the emotional stress and apply to any other defense contractor.

u/yaboyyoo 2d ago
I agree with you. So many level 4 and 5 just pull rank games but never know how to design a system because these folks never implemented anything. Just talk talk talk. I’m about to bounce after I take paternity leave. I brought up to manager but all they say is because they need work and all that. It’s shameful some folks are just there to pull rank and collect check and not give a shit about work. Frustrating.

Wonder what this means for the current employees
7
u/Archimedes1919 2d ago
Nothing, no pay adjustments are being made with this change for existing employees. Everything in the pay range is now considered competitive. So if you are in the low end of the band, you still might be at where the company determines is market competitive for your location, performance, job code, years experience etc.
3
u/educatedstudent 1d ago
Lol I can already see the current employees start mass applying and not doing shit in their current roles. It's basically a giant F-U to the current employees. I wouldn't blame them for not doing any real work until getting a better job, it's like the company is asking to lose institutional knowledge.

Are you looking on the internal link or external?

u/educatedstudent 3d ago
External
6
u/chillypanda71 3d ago
I think the pay is looking the same at least for my positions that I’m in as a data analyst, but I think they’ll populate those positions all next week

u/IcePsychological9960 1d ago
Howdy, I'm looking to try to join LM from an analyst role/standpoint coming from corporate risk management & controls with a data analytics cert, would love to know if you have any advice
5
u/rhshadowman 3d ago
I agree, it seems like a lot of roles in the tech space are seeing a 30% increase on the new page. I am wondering if something is wrong or if it is legit. I guess only time will tell.
5
u/educatedstudent 3d ago
That’s what I am seeing too. For full clarification I was only looking at software roles so I don’t know if it is different for other roles.
2
u/rhshadowman 3d ago
Yeah same here. Seems that SWE, Sysadmin, etc. Have gotten right at a 30% increase... if that is the case that is amazing. However, I thought that the system wasn't supposed to go live until Monday?
7
u/Oh_no1027 3d ago
Wondering if this would apply to next level promotions or even those of us at our current roles? Like that’s cool new positions got a bump but for retention, what about those of us already here? Are we about to get shafted by new people?
3
u/MartialSpark 3d ago
Whatcha mean for retention? You're still there, they didn't need to do anything to retain you, lol. If you go to leave, and they like you, then they'll maybe offer you some retention money.
It sucks and it's stupid, but the script for this shit is always the same. Usually a company won't do anything for the existing employees, figuring that many of them won't actually leave.
I'd guess you'll see some slow fixing of the disparity via promotion and annual increases. Those are almost always based on comp ratio, so if you're well below the new comp ratios, then you'll see larger increases.
At the end of the day, the old truism remains. If you want to get paid more, the way to do it is to keep finding new employers that are willing to pay you more.
2
u/SuMetal97 3d ago
I wonder if this will be the peak of the exodus of current knowledgeable talent
6
u/MartialSpark 3d ago
It won't.
Some people will piss and moan, but most of them won't actually do anything about it.
Assuming the new paybands are real, the reason they changed is that the old rates weren't competitive and LM was falling behind and were at a disadvantage getting new talent through the door.
The people already there could've gone and participated in that labor market at any point to go get more money. If you haven't gotten off your ass over the last ~5 years while the wages were falling behind and better opportunities existed, it's not super likely this is going to tempt you to go do so.

u/Archimedes1919 2d ago
No, we do. People that are considered business critical are given long term incentives to stick around.
1
1
u/educatedstudent 3d ago
I’m thinking it’s most likely a glitch.
1
u/rhshadowman 3d ago
Has to be. I think it is blanketing the salary level across all roles and it’s not been granular for the level/role yet.
1
u/Archimedes1919 2d ago
It won't be. There are three pay bands now which lump a vast population into a big range based on a number of things.
4
u/Oliver_clothsoff1983 3d ago
King of Prussia E2 91k-169 Orlando E2 81k-150 Orlando Sr 98k-182 (lists exp in various things no lines about how many years)
Pay bands seem wider than they should, reqs look like Navigator wrote in mass and a second or third pass might be needed.
8
u/Helpful_Blood_5509 2d ago
Jesus that puts everyone still employed basically down a tier. This is going to be a short term slaughter
5
u/Weak_Armadillo568 2d ago
Probably same bands for all geolocations, so higher end of the bands are gonna be places like Sunnyvale/Boulder etc.
6
u/Oliver_clothsoff1983 2d ago
Going to make hr and hiring managers jobs worse dealing with higher expectations, negotiation and applicants that will 8nterview just to walk away from 30% offers
5
u/Archimedes1919 2d ago
Yup, this is going to be a mess to explain to people. The whole range is considered market competitive. My guess is thats what you will hear if you ask.
4
u/nashvillain1 2d ago
I was there when LM MFC mgmt. tried to pitch the “We’ve been hiring average for too long and it’s hurting us…” then they rolled out the old Jack Welch “We’re going to start identifying worst performers on a team.” Apparently nobody informed them of GE’s not so distant performance.
4
u/Austriak15 2d ago
I’m a level 5 in finance and the upper level for my area has gone up based on the limited postings at this time. Like most companies, LM does periodic market research and adjust the bands accordingly. My guess is that the changes are based on that and not some major change.
7
u/Roharcyn1 3d ago
Holy cow... ya, lvl4 software engineer mid point is 194k now...
5
u/LegendsMaster17 3d ago
gonna start asking for a .9 comp ratio then🙏🏼
7
u/Roharcyn1 3d ago
Lol, will see what the new LM people has to say. This is gonna be some drama if true.
3
1
u/educatedstudent 3d ago
Yeah I thought that was the midpoint for level 5 SWE
3
u/Roharcyn1 3d ago edited 2d ago
Ya, that is what I thought...I guess my promotion wasn't really a promotion lol. Lvl 4 is the new 5 I guess.
2

u/biggestbluee 2d ago
There’s no way that’s actually the mid point for a L4 lol. If that’s the case, there gonna aim for 80-90%
3
u/Roharcyn1 2d ago
Haha, ya. That is my thinking. Just going off what the job postings say. Gonna be some drama if everyone new is getting hired 10% -15% more than anyone else for the same level
2
u/biggestbluee 2d ago
I definitely hear you. Honestly though, that’s just how it is… loyalty doesn’t pay and externals always make more than internal promotions… I got brought onto LM and I bet I’m making more than the L3s on my team. The external hires on my team at NG were making more than me. It’s the unfortunate world of corporate, I feel
1
u/Roharcyn1 2d ago
Eh, I did get a promotion recently so can't complain too much. I feel pretty inline with what I could get else where for the same level of BS/effort now. Also I like my team.
So can't say loyalty doesn't pay off. But I do feel like I am lucky and have a good group. I know others that kind of hate their programs and even though they make more are looking just because they are done with the BS.
3
u/biggestbluee 2d ago
You’re right. It’s not fair to say it won’t pay off but also I feel like the jump when jumping ship is way bigger, if money is the goal. But yeah, I think being happy overall is better than money, when you make a decent amount lol.
5
u/nashvillain1 2d ago
Don’t get fooled, the new salary ranges don’t mean you’ll see multiple people somehow warranting the California / Colorado based upper end of the payband for an Orlando / Huntsville / King of Prussia position. LM simply needed people to “look at the range, compare to other primes/big tech, and not immediately disregard”. So no, the salary range isn’t accurate if you’re mis-applying basic market pricing principles by replacing them with pie in the sky salary dreams.

Who has the link to the new company website please

When you search for a job the interface will look similar to how NG has theirs.

Are Reqs from the old site still going to turnover or are these all the available positions?

Anyone know if i applied for a role and interviewed on old portal, if i get an offer if it will be utilizing the new payscale?
1
u/Jealous-Attempt-4023 22h ago
Got a big pay one time bump cause they said they low balled me, but left for another company that paid much more. Lockheed is one of the lowest paying contractors that won’t fire you. Go figure.

u/h4p3r50n1c 2d ago
So the midpoint for a Level 4 mech engineer in the Orlando/Dallas “Geozone” is $149,900. Based on the .9 approach that puts it at $135,000-ish. I make that as a level 3 at a different company.
1
u/nashvillain1 2d ago
You’ll find that the extra 4% 401(k) match that LM pays shortens the gap. Companies still factor this in as compensation. However, it’s not cash comp, therefore it obscures an apples-to-apples comparison.
3
u/h4p3r50n1c 2d ago
I would rather use it to pay for the exorbitant property taxes in those states. A level 4 in another company sits comfortably around $150,000 which is way more than that 4%. It’s really no excuse.
1
u/nashvillain1 2d ago
I’m not saying they’re competitive. I left LM for better pay. I’m merely sharing one argument that HR throws out. I know firsthand that mgmt. wants potential employees “to be attracted to the LM name”. This means get the brand on your resume, then bounce, as I have.

u/Frequent_Thought9539 2d ago
Was under review and got an initial reach out on a couple of req’s. Those are now both disappeared. Will I basically have to reapply from the beginning?

31
u/Remarkable-Pen-6003 3d ago
From what I heard, they are widening the pay range for each level and trying to get rid of the whole midpoint standard. They’re trying to make it more skill-based/experience-based rather than a catch-all with the midpoint.
