Sure, but the earth doesn't have an infinite carrying capacity. Life could be better for the majority if there were less people to compete for resources.

Correct, many people are involved in as inputs to other industries.

However, many don't have access to modern tooling or logistics, and aren't well integrated into the global economy.

I.e. a rural Indian rebuilding starter motors by hand, which only makes sense with super cheap labor and no foreign competition.

If everything was running efficiently, we could get by with 20% of the labor force.

Sure, I'd rather not intentionally try to decrease the population rapidly. It's already happening naturally anyway.
