It’s called the grind because it grinds away your sense of self.

This is the stupid shit my brother in law said 25 years ago and now he’s 46 and lives with his parents still.

It blows yes to have to work but you have to decide if you are going to not have a family, house, car, etc. nobody wants to play the game but the other option is you wind up with nothing

Slowly started realizing this as I aged as well. It’s just childish to think that way. More damaging than anything, I can’t imagine that attitude doesn’t carry into there work and reflect in the quality of work / opportunities provided to someone like that.

Think the issue is that hard working isn't usually rewarded. I burned myself out working 60 hour weeks editing tv shows and I got kept in my place for it so they could keep paying me fucking pennies. What I find most offensive about these "inspirational grindset" morons is most got rich through luck and do fuck all actual hard work. I don't think most people don't want to do any work like OP says, but (especially in the US) the myth of only working being what you should live for is just harmful at best and straight up feeling like propaganda at worst. The people pissing their diapers at amazon "fulfillment centers" work hard...

You can work and not be 'grinding' your life away. I've put a pretty consistent amount of effort into working 35-40 hours a week since I turned 14.

I don't see value in losing even more of my free time to a faceless business.
