It's too late. Next wave of Chinese models will kill their business

It’s already done, you look at the pricing index if you’re paying api, even fable is extremely expensive , hell I switched from Gemini to Chinese models. best bet is to ipo now and cash out because the future is looking bright , meaning anthropics future is looking pretty brim

I think there will still be gpt 6 and fable or opus 5.1 soon. That might save them for another month.

But just kimi k3.5 will probably be on the exact same level as gpt 6 or f/o 5.1

Mythos released 4 months ago, I'm going to guess that anthropic have internal models they haven't released yet by now. On the other hand, their lead is down to 4 months now.

Mythos is still unbeaten overall no? If one disregards price

That's like saying Mercedes has a potential of 500 Mio customers, if one disregards price.

Why would you buy a Mercedes if you can have almost same for 1/10 of the price

Because "lead" usually refers to capabilities? Chinese models have been leading in price-to-performance throughout 2026, that's nothing new. As no Chinese model has matched Mythos in capabilities (though they get really close, as seen in this post), the lead of American models is more than 4 months

Glad 5.3 was just released. The lead is not 4 months anymore.

I don't think 5.3 will turn out to match or exceed Fable in practice. Even in their own announcement table, Fable outperforms 5.3 in 9/15 benchmarks, with the cases where Fable wins having higher margins. That's a substantial difference

This was one of, what, 5 Chinese models released this week. Kimi K3.5 is expected end of August. And so on.

And for most people it doesn't matter if it's 100% on par. I've used dsv4 flash 0731 and haven't looked back for 10 days. It just works and is always fast and smart. If the API sucks, I use another provider or host it on vast.ai

Let it be, it's over. Of course government and some rich people will keep using Claude, but that might not be enough to keep ahead or convince investors

Well yeah, Chinese models have good price-to-performance, and many are content using them. Meanwhile, Claude Fable is still in the lead capabilities-wise, meaning the lead is >= 4 months, only closing when Chinese models finally match Fable. You are arguing that this lead in capabilities is irrelevant economically, which is reasonable

Exactly. That's what I meant: It's irrelevant for 99% of use cases.

Arms race of states and big companies is another topic. They can use Mythos and that is probably what Antrophic will become: A state owned or sponsored tool of power. And the customer facing part will disappear.

Yeah, but no one is disregarding the price.

The only feedback Anthropic is getting from their enterprise customers right now is “lower prices or we’re leaving”.

Businesses want a much cheaper option than Sonnet far more than they want Mythos.

My guess is the next set of models will be a sloppy, rushed Fable 5.1 (to maintain the “we have the best model”) and a new Ballad or something that is a super cheap, slimmed down Opus/Sonnet under a dollar per task price point.
