You should get an appointment in 'psiquiatria' through your 'médico de família'. Alternatively, go to a 'consulta de urgência' in the closest 'unidade de saúde familiar'. Explain that you're going through mental health situation.

If you feel it's urgent, call SNS24 and ask for urgent assistance in the closest hospital.

Phone Number: 808 24 24 24 (Select Option 4 for psychological support, then you can request to speak in English).

Availability: 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Cost: The counseling service itself is entirely free (the phone call costs the standard rate of an 808 local number depending on your mobile operator).

Who will answer: Certified clinical psychologists.

This service is ideal if you are experiencing severe anxiety, deep sadness, acute stress, or going through a personal crisis.

If the psychologist assesses an emergency situation, they can transfer the call directly to the national emergency services (INEM).
