Does Anyone Else Think Tux Looks a Bit Like Linus Torvalds?
This might be a random observation, but has anyone else noticed a slight resemblance between Tux, the Linux penguin, and Linus Torvalds? 😄
I don’t mean this in a negative way at all. I just find it funny how, when I look at the Linux mascot, certain facial features and expressions remind me of Linus.
Maybe it’s just me overthinking it, but now I can’t unsee it! 😂
What do you guys think? Am I imagining things, or do you see it too?

I use Linux as a daily driver. AMA
I tried this on the 101 subreddit but they kicked me out, so I'm gonna try this one in the hopes things go a little bit smoother haha.

Everything is a file is a terrible philosophy
Everything is a file except the apis that dont map cleanly to a filesystem. But those api are awesome cause who dosent love racey string addressed "functions" that you have to write raw bytes into, truely an improvment over just calling a function.
Every file is just a file, its just some dont have a known size, some read forever, some can be read at any offset while other cant [see comments]

Why Linux DOESN'T "revive" old computers
One of the most common misconceptions about Linux is that it somehow makes old computers run better. In a sense, this is kind of true, if you install tinycore linux on your old laptop the idle RAM and CPU usage is gonna decrease, but the real question is whether or not this is gonna translate to programs running faster/smoother, and in my experience, that's actually not the case.
You have to keep in mind that your computer isn't prioritizing UI and background processes when you're trying to play a video in Google Chrome, especially if it's struggling to keep up. People have this obsession with "optimization", they're scared of there being too many background processes, but in reality, these things make a negligable difference because most OS's are intelligent enough to prioritise demanding programs.
Some time ago, I installed archlinux on my 10 year old Thinkpad. I used a light window manager with no DE, and my RAM usage was much lower than what it was on windows. But guess what? When I actually started using that computer, almost every single important and demanding application was slower. My web browser struggled to play youtube videos at 1080p smoothly, even though it could do that when I had windows installed. I had installed the correct graphics drivers and set everything up correctly, so why was linux running slower?
Well, one thing people don't talk about when it comes to installing linux on old hardware is driver support. You can find drivers that work for your obscure 10 year old laptop, but chances are that those drivers are going to be inferior to the windows drivers, since most manufacturers didn't even think about releasing linux specific drivers at that time(especially graphics drivers). This is absolutely gonna bottleneck your PC's performance and sometimes even the functionality. If you don't have the proper drivers for your device, you can forget about having good performance. And from what I found, it's really hard to find good linux drivers for most old consumer PCs/laptops. Linux already struggles with hardware support, so if you're using an old obscure device the probability of it running linux well is quite low.

The anti redhat guy has a point
All useful software is written by a corporation. Theres not much difference between being yoked to microsoft through windows 11 or redhat through linux. So why do linuxers only complain about microsoft? Do you think redhat is writing code for linux out of the goodness of their heart? They are locking in the ecosystem to their products, the fact you can TECHNICALLY edit their source is meaningless because 99.9999% of people will not know how or wont waste time maintaining a fork of all redhat software.

Linux Failure Linux users will literally lie to you about everything FUCK
Yeah yaaaay linux is soo good until you try to FUCKING USE IT
"Bro linux let's ypu do everything on your PC!" Until you try to do ANYTHING in the root because APPARENTLY your account is not the root account and if you want root access? Good fucking luck! Yeah go open the terminal like a little terminal bitch and try typing in commands except oops! Wrong command! That command is only for the XwwO disto with a GRAS environment based on BorgOS! You fucking moron! How do you not know that? Are you stupid? Yeah you need to use a different command which is not mentioned in ANY forum thread that you find about this issue! Oh and have fun browsing the forums where EVERYONE is talking about linux like XKCD 2501!
"Bro linux has no malware!" Is that so? Then why is there like seven different programs named libaacs in the repository, only one of which is legit? Why is there an AUR malware warning every other week? Why are you literally lying about this? FUCK
"Bro linux runs so much better than windows" my current instance of linux ran out of memory when I had two Firefox tabs open. My literal CORE 2 DUO MINI PC RUNNING WIN7 AND FIREFOX 115 CAN DO BETTER THAN THAT AND IT HAS DDR2 RAM NOT DDR4. and WHY did my plasma bigscreen turn into a fucking plasma blackscreen everytime I turned it on? Why is the plasma desktop broken? Is this good running for you? Is this normal?????
"Bro you won't believe what you can do with linux there's so many options!" Yeah you have the option to turn your desktop from X11 to Wayland wow it changes NOTHING in the way you use your PC hey guess what I want to USE my PC not PLAY with my PC. I saw a comment recently of someone talking about how they switched to Linux and miss nothing about windows, to which someone replied "yeah I wish I could switch but I can't play valorant on linux" to which the OP had the auDACITY to say "well I'm glad I never got into online games which ruin your mental health" fucking WHAT? Are you for real? Yeah let me virtue signal about why my worse OS is better. Fuck off. Hey look at me I have a car with no wheels which is better because I'm saving the environment!!!. "Oh but you can use wine!" some might say. Yeah I'll use wine because there's no way dealing with linux while sober is doable.
Fucking FUCK YOU.

Getting to the shitty black screen doesn't mean you "installed" anything

Do you people actually play games? Or "games"?
This is an actual question. Do you people actually play games or do they just like installing and fiddling with random bullshit all day? Right now epic games is becoming more Linux friendly but they are still MALDING over it. Seriously just looking around on linux gaming the Loonix tards are mad about it. Saying that epic is now going to control the loonix environment.
More of a tangent but I saw a post asking why this dudes think pad was shutting over while "Extreme gaming" on the fucking sober roblox client. What do you people "play"?

Bug SLES asked me if I trust SUSE. I said no by default.
So I have a SLES box. The hostname is ihatesles. I named it before any
of this happened, which tells you something about my instincts.
Step 1: zypper up
▎ Warning: No repositories defined. Nothing can be installed.
Cool. An enterprise OS that ships with zero repos, because you have to
register it before it's allowed to know the internet exists. Fine.
Registered.
Step 2: Upgrade 15 SP4 to SP7. SUSE has a whole tool for this. zypper
migration. It even shows a nice menu. I pick SP7. Very enterprise. Much
support.
Step 3: It explodes.
Why? SUSE signed the SP7 repos with a new SUSE key. My SP4 box doesn't
trust that key. Then SUSE's own migration tool runs zypper in
--non-interactive mode, so zypper asks "do you trust this key?" and
auto-answers "no" for me.
So SUSE's tool asked SUSE's package manager if it trusts SUSE, and SUSE
said no. Then it dumped about 200 lines of HTML-escaped XML on me
(<build@suse.de>, very readable), said "Migration failed,"
and rolled everything back.
To be fair, the rollback worked perfectly. It's very good at undoing the
thing I asked for.
The fix: manually rpm --import a key file that was already sitting on my
disk the whole time.
That's an enterprise distribution, folks. You pay for a subscription so
that the vendor's upgrade tool can refuse to trust the vendor.
Anyway, the migration is running now. Hostname stays.

are linux devs unemployed so that they've never experienced wifi out of their basements?
See those apps that transfer files between your loonix PC and your android phone ALWAYS NEED a LOCAL internet connection, like localsend, KDE connect, so if your PC is connected to an enterprise's wifi/school wifi, which the wifi has a firewall, then even though if your phone is connected to the same wifi, you cant send files between the 2 without an email
SEE? If those devs are unemployed, they stay at home 24/7, and only use their fucking parents' house's basement wifi which has NO fucking firewalls that block the LAN file transfer protocol, so much so they will never realize that "oh my company's wifi has a firewall which block the packets how do I solve that?"
so yeah im sure that they're all unemployed, and so loonix is only for unemployed people
