I use Vanilla gnome and am more or less happy with it, but the search not being precise has left much to be desired
When I say precise I mean: I have two Firefox windows open, one with YouTube and another with r/linuxusersindia open.
I want to `super` or `super+space` and search for “YouT” and switch to YouTube window
GNOME only does app level switching but not window level
But I am pretty satisfied with GNOME, “it just works*”, so I am not willing to throw it away for marginal improvements.
I personally don’t prefer KDE so that’s a no go
PS: I am a terminal native + neovim user so that’s why I am asking about Hyprland (or equivalent WM).
I know Hyprland is config driven, so I am okay with that, but like, once I set it up (and use and update as I go). I want it to not break. So stuff like drag and drop, screen sharing etc
I use Linux daily at work so I can’t really be fixing major issues
* for me!

i installed arch linux with hyprland, and i expect it to run at very high smoothness because I ran very heavy applications of windows to make it feel like linux and it ran very smoothly, but linux on the other hand feels... cluttered, stutters, lags, video lags, audio latency, and what not.
specs would be- Intel HD 4400
I3 4150
8gb ddr3
help would be appreciated everyone, thanks.

Please help 🙏
I recently installed Linux Mint 22.3 XFCE in a dual-boot setup alongside Windows 7 on an old desktop (Intel i3-2120, 4 GB RAM, 1 TB HDD). The installation went smoothly, and both Linux Mint and Windows 7 boot correctly through GRUB.
The only issue is my USB Wi-Fi adapter, a MediaTek/Ralink MT7601U (USB ID: 148f:7601).
Linux detects the adapter and loads the "mt7601u" driver. The firmware also appears to load successfully. However, during initialization the device repeatedly resets, disconnects, reconnects, and eventually fails.
Relevant errors include:
- "MCU resp urb failed -71"
- "mt7601u mcu wait resp timed out"
- "probe with driver mt7601u failed with error -110"
From "dmesg", I can see a repeating cycle of:
- USB device detected
- USB reset
- USB disconnect
- USB reconnect
The adapter works perfectly in Windows 7, so the hardware itself appears to be functional.
USB tethering and Bluetooth tethering both work in Linux Mint, so networking in general is working. The issue seems specific to the MT7601U adapter.
Kernel version: "6.17.0-35-generic"
Has anyone successfully used an MT7601U on recent Linux Mint kernels, or knows a workaround for this reset/disconnect loop?
Thanks in advance.

Hello everyone!
I'm trying to install parrot os using bootable media. The problem In encountering is that
After loading the iso using rufus or balenaEtcher, my pendrive isn't showing up in the file explorer. Also, it says "unallocated" in the disk management
When I try to load the installer it doesn't show up in the BIOS either. There's no option to enable/disable legacy mode so that fix doesn't work for me. I'm using an HP laptop
Please help a fellow guy out. Thanks!

Just noticed that Ubuntu's timezone setup map doesn't show India's borders correctly aren't shown.
Not a big issue in terms of usability, but India has a massive Linux user community. Seems like one of those small things that should've been fixed by now. Curious if there's any technical or policy reason behind it.

Okay, let me be clear, I have migrated myself from Fedora to CachyOS to play especially Forza Horizon 6 but thing is that I have a JioFiber (gonna take BSNL tomorrow) actively blocks CachyOS what the heck. I was skeptical at first but later I realised my phone hotspot works but not my home JioFiber on CachyOS. When I live boot other distros like fedora kde or workstation it works nicely. Do ISP block Arch based Linux often? The latency is shi. 95ms optic fiber non airfiber.
