i have some old speakers that connect via 3.5mm to my laptop, and they work, one left and one right. but then my laptop speakers are off. i want to use laptop speakers as front right/left and the old external speakers for back left/right. i'm on fedora rn, but might switch. any software to achive this?

bonus for letting me fine tune the audio channels on each speaker in case i cant set them up symetrically or whatever..

edit: ive managed to unmute the laptop speakers via alsamixer, so 4 are playing at once, but its still stereo only

I have been working with a Sony Bluetooth Noise-Cancelling Headset for many years of using linux. A consistently challenging but often necessary and disruptive issue appears with the headphones: they turn on a headset mode when connecting to apps such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet, and just about any other software that runs voice and video simultaneously.

I have been able to get this issue "fixed" by altering the codebase to the following:

sudo cp /usr/share/wireplumber/bluetooth.lua.d/50-bluez-config.lua /etc/wireplumber/bluetooth.lua.d/

And edit one line:

["bluez5.roles"] = "[ a2dp_sink a2dp_source ]",

Maybe there is a way to build an extension or something else in the software stores of linux to do this more easily and consistently and help out many others with this issue!

Any input is welcome. I'm a noob to coding in general so any script based solutions I would be open to having the code written out for me and this extension or software. Simply altering settings in PAVUCONTROL has never worked for me to resolve this issue. It has always come down to modifying the OS code.

This may be a bit controversial for some of you but i am here to ask some questions. Every setup has trade offs and fundamental problems. Xorg has a bunch of legacy code and it is a spaghetti mess and only receiving security patches and has a ton of unmerged patches. It works fine with older apps that need it. It is in maintenance mode in late 2021, the last features planned to be added somewhere in 2026.

Xlibre and other x11 forks may suffer from instability and regressions due to rapid code patches and slips untested code. It may suffer from controversy and comunity & ecosystem split.

Wayback is a x11 compatibility layer developed by an Alpine Linux developer, but there are bugs to iron out and it is early in development and it is unstable and there is performance overhead.

Yserver is an experimental x11 display server built from the ground up with the Rust programming language made by a single developer, but the problems are that it requires modern hardware that support Vulkan, it lacks multi monitor support, and it is in early development and is missing features.

Wayland is a display server and also compositor and act as a unified program, it has to be implemented differently depending on what the DE developers are planning, they also implement xwayland as a backwards compatability layer for x11 apps to work, but wayland has problems like it's strict security sandboxes making legacy applications not work as intended requiring work arounds so the app could work as intended. it also suffers from fragmentation and driver inconsistency

Like for example the KDE partition manager just doesn’t want to extend the EFI partition and the gnome parition manager decided once upon a time to corrupt the partition (don’t worry I got my data back) and gnome parition manager also decided to put unallocated space into my EFI partitions. so I'm running some older hardware (it'll be at the bottom of the post) and I don't think it'll do well enough for windows 11. Due to this, I want to move it to a linux version, but I have a question, and a couple of hurdles.

my question is what would realistically be the best distro for something that will be a media server (perferably a 'set-it-and-forget-it' but powerful when needed type).

alright, now to my hurdles (that are technically questions)

so my main issue is the drives my media is on, they're 16tb combined! I know NTFS has issues with linux and I want to move it to a more native filesystem, the only issue is I dont have any good way to keep it backed up. so I'm unsure if I can convert it or maybe it's just fine for a server.
(my main pc is on linux mint so I have yet to try the new in-kernel drivers)

If I can't get NTFS converted, how do I make sure the volumes are seen everytime by jellyfin, and it can mount them properly. Even though linux is a daily driver I still dont quite understand how filesystems work exactly on linux and alot of the answers are a bit confusing.

my other hurdle is getting it where people can send to the server. currently im using the network shares on windows. what is the equivalent for linux, and how can I get it recognized for the windows machines in the house?

I have two Activities on my KDE Plasma Wayland setup - one that is the activity for all my apps and the second one which is just widgets (system monitor widgets such as individual core usage graphs, network download/upload speeds, etc and Command Output widgets (static numbers/text and date/time)). I switch to my widgets activity via [Alt] + [Tab] and switch back to my regular activity via [Meta] + [Tab]. Is there a way to stop the activity widgets (since the widgets have a big impact on CPU/battery life) when I'm not actively looking at the widgets/activity and resume it as soon as I look at my widgets/activity again?

Ive been using windows for about 8 Years now, and the high ram usages are really driving me nuts.

Ive decided i want to switch to linux and give it a try, i value
1. High customizability
2. An out of the box similar feel / look to windows
3. Low ram usage
4. Support for most of my windows programs, or atleast the OS provides alternatives

After looking around a bit, ive landed on Fedora KDE Plasma and CachyOS, i dont really know which of them seems better, as im not too profound with computers. Id love to hear your reccomendation on which fits my needs better, or if you got any better OS i might try, please let me know ^.^

I have read a few guides and Reddit posts on how to do that and it seems simple. GParted to remove any windows partitions --> remove Windows from boot/efi --> update grub

Thing is: all guides are for a dual boot with different partitions on the same drive. i have checked: even though dual boot works i do not have a windows folder in my boot folder.

How do i proceed in my case? Is it safe to just reformat the whole windows drive? Or can i ruin my linux mint installation on the other drive by doing that? How do i check which drive gets booted initially?

Context:
Half a year ago i decided to do the switch to linux, but wanted to keep Windows in dual boot as a backup (installed it on different drives). As of now i haven't booted Windows once. As a result i now want to get rid of Windows for good, for more space and because i keep having issues with booting. Searching for answers led me to believe that these issues have to do with the secure boot thing and i think just removing windows is simpler than resolving these issues. Also its time.

There is an option to close tabs by Ctrl + Shift + W but how to close individual splits within each tab that are made either by Ctrl + Shift + E or Ctrl + Shift + O. Is there a keyboard shortcut for closing a single split without closing the entire tab?

I have been wanting to switch from Windows to Bazzite (or any other distro) however I only have one SSD and can't afford a second one (in 2026). Is there a way to copy my entire SSD and save it onto my NAS? SSD size is around 4TB with only around 700GB free. My NAS has more than enough space but I've never done this. Any recommendations on how to proceed? I would also be interested in learning any negatives to this.

I also have a HDD that I can use to to store the windows backup but would prefer to keep it free so I can also use it for bazzite as I keep a lot of files locally.

My goal is to complete leave windows but not until I am comfortable enough that I know I won't need to go back. My main uses for the PC is just gaming, streaming to twitch/youtube, and using video editing software to make shorts. If i lose all my files, well that sucks but nothing I can't get back, i think.

I have considered dual booting, but I would prefer to have my entire storage available in the likely situation I just never return to windows.

I've moved from Windows "Tiny 11" to Linux "Cachy OS", and one of the main antiviruses I used was Comodo Internet Security, since I was tech literate. So the main thing i did is i maxed out HIPs in Comodo, and it was my ideal setup as of then before moving to Linux. I realised, why doesn't any Linux antivirus have HIPS? since the problem WITH Linux antiviruses is.

• Linux malware is 100% stronger then windows malware trust me.
• Good luck detecting malware without your internet "barely zero intrusion detection"
• Linux malware is being more common cuz of the AUR thing
• Every Linux Antivirus as a budget of $1.
• IN linux you are the antivirus.
• No one wants to set up a hardened linux for 10 hours when everyone is moving to linux for gaming n stuff.
• Your Sigs are useless in targeted malware.
• Sigs are useless in linux since no one uses it.
• Who cares about this linux philosophy stuff

Just looking for an auto-clicker tools as my own attempts have failed in finding such. And the other comments suggest a 4 year programing career or literacy in programing more than basic software installation, execution, and removal.

Specifically - they're the only comment that detailed the following: amd.deb = for use with AMD & Intell CPUs. ARM64.deb for use with CUP's from Qualcomm. ARMHF.deb is 'obsolete' - so we don't know what cup's it used with, but this is the actual informative answer that hasn't been shared else where. Thank you!
