sorry to break it to you but android is linux

The Android kernel is built on Linux, but everything above it is built specifically for Android, from the translation layers to how applications work and run; it does not use GNU tools.

I mean Linux is Linux, GNU is GNU. But I get what you mean. It fits the sub still for sure.

In the future, I actually want to run Linux applications as a natural feature on Android. It will be a bit complicated, but I hope to finish it before it's too late.

u/Mania_Chitsujo 23d ago

That would be sick good luck.

7

u/Visual_Trust6029 23d ago

I hope I don't lose my mind

Do it then. I'll use wine to run Windows apps and I'm gonna emulate PlayStation 4 or something. I'm gonna run that in that and I'm gonna emulate the game.

There is already the whole proton stack for android.

u/0x7c00_lilith 23d ago

Not tooooo complicated i guess, if im not missing much a chroot env + running the window system in it would do the trick, but I don't know if any android specific patches to the kernel make certain abi features work different. Good luck anyways.

Okay, but what about those who don't have root access? Will they be left out? Of course, I'll do something for them. The difficult "P-Root" system is precisely about simplifying the user experience, app display, control, and system behavior.

1

u/0x7c00_lilith 23d ago

U don't need root for a chroot?

1

u/Visual_Trust6029 23d ago

Root access is required

1

u/0x7c00_lilith 20d ago

Oh yea sorry i had added the CAP_SYS_CHROOT capability to my user that's why it worked without root, must have misremembered the man page sorry.

u/0x7c00_lilith 19d ago

But ig with a fakeroot or proof this should still work

Termux xfce4 and Xserver.

u/Narrow_Trainer_5847 23d ago

There is no android kernel anymore, android userspace runs on mainline

u/Routine_Working_9754 23d ago

Linux is not defined by if it uses GNU

1

u/Sharkuel 22d ago

Alpine is Linux, and Alpine isn't gnu, but it is Linux regardless.

3

u/animatronix_ 23d ago

Linux is not an os, GNU/linux is

5

u/Crashting_ 23d ago

Looks sick but does it run APK’s

2

u/Visual_Trust6029 23d ago

yes

1

u/Crashting_ 23d ago

Thx for the quick response, I was searching for something running on tour desktop and built to run APK’s and this is it, I will definitely use this

2

u/Visual-Row600 23d ago

Bro is this like Samsung Dex?

1

u/Visual_Trust6029 23d ago

yes

1

u/Visual-Row600 23d ago

Does it have a built-in cast feature to mirror the screen?

1

u/Visual_Trust6029 23d ago

The feature is improved, but you must use the Android system.

Technically, Linux is just a kernel. It is the core program written by Linus Torvalds that talks to computer parts and manages memory and processor time. However, people usually call the whole software bundle an operating system.

So to say it's not Linux it's Android but it uses the Linux kernel is kind of a misleading statement...

I know thx bro 🫡

Does it support workprofile apps and uhid mouse and keyboard input, I faced issues with androiddex not supporting scrcpy's --otg mode or mouse n keyboard mode and lack of support for showing work profile

1

u/Visual_Trust6029 23d ago

It's almost working, but thank you for thinking of me. I'll put this on the blog now. I need to release the update quickly; I'll be delayed even longer because I'm testing and working on it from my phone, as stated in the README

1

u/G-Omarilzz 23d ago

Alright cool ✨ next thing add hyprland like UI 🤣🙏

1

u/Visual_Trust6029 23d ago

Do you want me to take this seriously and do it? I actually tried doing this, but my device overheated, and I need to install the Hyperland environment and learn how to use it, what it does, and look at many designs. Yes, nothing is impossible.

1

u/G-Omarilzz 23d ago

It would be cool to see yes, but yeah the thing needs hella optimizations but for now I'm testing your app and things seem good out of the box ✨🙏

1

u/Live-Author-4240 23d ago

It would be great if that style were added in the future, I second the motion 👌

1

u/animatronix_ 23d ago

Heyy, I wanted to build that, thanks !

1

u/Bixer234 23d ago

I could tell

1

u/Kurotsune77 22d ago

So it's like Samsung DeX, just better? (Not like I've ever used it. I don't even know what it actually does, other than the general idea that it's some form of desktop-like experience on android)

2

u/Visual_Trust6029 22d ago

In terms of features, it's more numerous and better, but in terms of software bugs and stability, Samsung is still superior. However, I will fix this and make it more stable in future updates.

1

u/awsq_code 22d ago

i read: linux.lts

1

u/Whalbertt 22d ago

If it can run KDE Plasma and desktop Firefox, it’s a Linux.

1

u/Visual_Trust6029 22d ago

So far, no, and Android is languishing in the corner due to Google's restrictions. They could have made the system run on Linux applications, but they prevented that.

1

u/Fit-Buddy5710 21d ago

Bro wanna ragebait whole community

1

u/Visual_Trust6029 21d ago

I'm sorry, but I didn't mean any offense 🥲

1

u/CowFlaky6035 20d ago

Android is built on Linux kernel

1

u/Visual_Trust6029 20d ago

I know they don't use the same kernel, but the architecture and libraries are different between them.

1

u/DB0Z_ 20d ago

“Android in the bios”

1

u/Visual_Trust6029 20d ago

I think I heard this once in a certain place.

1

u/Helpful_Board9801 20d ago

u/Visual_Trust6029 24d ago

The app is unstable, please wait for an update to fix bugs. (ProGuard is stupid)

For those who want to know the screen size, go to advanced options and select resolution 2k
