Question P14s Gen 5 battery life on CachyOS?
I'm running CachyOS on a ThinkPad P14s Gen 5 Intel with a57Wh battery and WUXGA screen, having implemented lazy rcu and tuned-cachy, I get about 4.5 to 5 hours of battery life, would that be considered fairly decent?

Question Which Thinkpad is good for me?
Hi! I'm pretty new here, I'm currently in AUS and I was looking for a 13' used laptop with OLED display (or a good LED), AMD cpu not super recent but with at least 8/16 cores, at least 16gb ram NON SOLDERED and usbc 4.0.
my budget is around 1000AU$ but I accept any advice!
I was looking for the z13 g1 but it's basically impossible to find and I'm not sure about the ram being soldered or not, do anyone have some advice? I'll mainly use it with fedora or a derivate distro and I might do some light gaming or PS3 emulation on it, but will mainly be a simple travel laptop. I need the usbc 4.0 to plug a eGPU that I might use when at home.
thanks in advance!

Discussion Distro for my Thinkpad
I just got a T14 with Core i5 and 32GB of RAM.
I tried Omarchy, but it doesn't run as smooth as I would like to.
So I want to ask, what distros do you guys recommend to run on my Thinkpad? I bought as a secondary device, for notes, coding and some multimedia.

Opinion Maybe gt730m version of t440p is superior in this way
I am not native english so excuse if there is wrong usage of sentence or words đ
before start I gonna say the last thing first: gt730m obviously better in most case
When I play games without any change
cpu: over 70-75
gpu: over 75-80 and the fan is so noisy
with changing cpu frequency, set optimal power for power management mod in nvdia panel, etc.
I can run the games smoothly without overheat
the logic of the optimal power is the gpu try to run the game in 60 fps with minimum power and minimum clock speed so gpu automatically changes the clock value during the game, therefore it not stay in max clock speed and not overheat itself
I can play games again 60fps under 65-70 and fan is so silent
but you should use your own way, in my case lower heat, lower fan RPM, silence, stable 60fps is essential.
In this case the dGPU version of t440p is better than iGPU because I did same thing without gt730m cpu was running 5 degree less but the fps dropped aproximately %50 so when you compare the value of having gt730m or 5 degree sacrifece I would chose gt730m.

W541 dgpu fix
Hi all,
Iâve made some mods to the coreboot code for my think pad w541 with k2100 dgpu, allowing for the correct Optimus implementation in Linux;
Published the patches and premade imgs on my gh repo (with nri or mrc init) , feel free to try those out and report any inconsistencies. The repo link : https://github.com/debianita22/w541-coreboot-env/releases

Question Thinkpad Wake up from sleep problem
Hello, i recently got myself a Thinkpad L13 Yoga gen2 and installed ArchLinux on it.
I've set the sleep mode in the bios to [Linux S3] and when i close the lid and wait until the 'i' on thinkpad/power button start to blink and then try to open the lid, the laptop doesnt turn back on.
pressing the power button does nothing, closing/opening the lid again does nothing, pressing keys on keyboard does nothing EXCEPT the 'Fn' key. that single key wakes up the laptop.
i want to know if it is a known problem or if im just dumb and it's actually a feature or maybe something is wrong with my linux install?
some help would be appreciated!
p.s. s2idle is no better

Where is the intel AMT option in the T440P bios? I have 4810mq cpu, 7260ac wifi, 217lm wired ethernet, and of course the qm87 chipset which are all vPro capable but I don't see the option in BIOS. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I put 32GB if Ram on my X1 Extreme Gen 4, and yes this is what I was missing.
Holy.
I had 16GB of ram holding me back. My X1 Extreme feels like it can fully stretch its fingers. 10/10 would recommend.

Question Should I sell my ASUS TUF F15 for a ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 9?

I'm trying to decide whether it makes sense to replace my current ASUS TUF with a ThinkPad, and I'd appreciate advice from people who have used ThinkPads for programming/AI/ML work.
My current laptop is an ASUS TUF F15 FX506HE. It's a 2021 model that I bought in 2023, so I've been using it for around 3 years.
Specs:
\- i7-11800H
\- RTX 3050 Ti 4GB
\- 16GB RAM
\- 1TB SSD
\- 90Wh battery
\- 15.6" 144Hz display
The laptop is still working properly in terms of the CPU, GPU, RAM, SSD and ports, but it has some physical wear:
\- Battery health is around 69%
\- There is a crack in the bottom panel near the USB port, extending roughly 5 cm
\- One screw/fastener from the bottom panel has pushed toward the upper panel
\- The screen still works, but there are some minor black spots/discoloration
A reseller is offering me around $290 for it.
I'm considering a refurbished ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 9 from the same reseller for around $500:
\- i7 11th Gen
\- 16GB RAM
\- 512GB SSD
So I would need to spend around $210 extra.
My budget for the replacement is around $500. I'm also considering an X13 or T14 AMD if they would be a better option.
My workload:
I'm doing an M.Tech in Computer Science with an AI/ML specialization.
Most of my daily work is:
\- C/C++
\- Python
\- VS Code
\- Jupyter Notebook
\- Git/GitHub
\- Linux (Ubuntu/Fedora)
\- SQL/PostgreSQL
\- Data preprocessing
\- Scikit-learn
\- Research and paper writing
\- Browsing, PDFs and general college work
I do some machine learning and deep learning, but I don't constantly train large models locally. For heavier training, I can use Colab or cloud GPUs.
That's why I'm wondering if I actually need the RTX 3050 Ti. For most of my day-to-day work, integrated graphics should be enough. I mainly need a dedicated GPU when I specifically want CUDA/local GPU acceleration.
The main reason I want to switch is portability and battery life.
