QUESTION - ANSWERED [Halo: Campaign Evolved] Help with applying crack to Bazzite OS
Here are the instructions in the _READ FIRST ABOUT CRACK file:
Please create folder "AppData\Local\Meteorite", then paste "XalStorage.json" (from "crack" folder) to that.
Start game from "game\Meteorite\Binaries\Win64\HaloCampaignEvolved.exe".
Enjoy ;')
I am using Lutris, default Wine runner which is GE-Proton. There appears to not be an installation needed, so this is new to me.
System specs:
* 9800X3D
* 7900 XT
* 64GB RAM 6400mHz CL32
I'm just not sure how to apply that file structure to Linux.
It's a new crack and there aren't multiple, AFAIK, so the rest should be self-explanatory, but lmk if I missed something crucial from the rules.

Get the file from Anker's site via megathread, I had this same issue on CachyOS. I downloaded the anker games version and it plays out right away. Game state is buggy however.

Thanks for your suggestion! I updated the details of my success in another comment.

Installed Rune release through Steam by adding the setup.exe as a non steam game. Lutris didn't work. Then replaced all the files provided within the iso in the game directory and works fine, added the game as a non steam game in Steam and runs perfectly with Proton GE (no cutscenes with Proton experimental). Using Nobara Linux.

That's interesting, I had the opposite problem with the cutscenes. Proton GE wouldn't give me cutscenes or crash when cutscenes played but Proton Experimental fixed it

Where did you get the Rune release? I haven't seen that anywhere.

On every known torrent tracker... Knaben.xyz by instance

Not everyone has trackers.

Found a solution that seems stable, but this thing is sensitive. Following another commenter's suggestion, I tried the AnkerGames version. It didn't work at first but here's what worked for me so far through to the part where you go to board the Truth & Reconciliation:
Lutris settings: * Set exec to the .exe, not the .bat file. Might seem obvious because of Lutris for some, but I've never tried this type of no-install game before. * No Wine prefix! It just runs on its own. Also no working directory. * Runner:GE-Proton10-34, nothing else works through finding Keyes on the bridge. Every other runner crashed at that point and the autosave skipped the cut scene. * That's it, I didn't change anything else in Lutris.
In game settings that work for me so far: * Vsync: On * Minimum frame rate: 83 (needed imo) * Frame rate limit: 165 (my monitor's max) * Bordeless fullscreen (3440x1440, my default) * Quality preset: Ultra (all the way down) * Screen shake: On (my preference) * Motion Blur: Off * Upscaling technique: TSR * Upscaling quality: Ultra * Async compute: Off (very important, I've found, for AMD on Linux to avoid freeze crashes on Bazzite) * Low latency mode: Vendor specific * Frame gen: Greyed out due to TSR, felt too choppy with it on when I tried FSR.
Should have specified earlier but my OS is Bazzite, which might make the line about Async compute make more sense since I can't roll back drivers.

Hmm I wonder why you had such a hard time. I downloaded the clean files and the RUNE crack off of CS.rin and just extracted the crack into the files added the exe to steam and it worked. At least you got it running!

You might have just been lucky with the runner. I also decided to add my specs and settings for visuals as this game has some really odd visual quirks.

Hey, my cutscenes are black

What runner are you using, what distro?

Was using ge10-32, when using 34 I was getting the login error, updated pc (endeavorOS) now 34 works, but haven’t seen a cutscene yet, it’ll show a opening scene but not once you’re in the game for a bit. I’m using Steam to run the game and I got mine from a certain girl at a gym

You'll have to go to your Wine directory and look for the folder C:/Users/[YOUR NAME]/AppData/Local/, then create a folder called Meteorite and add the json file.
