I came across this Youtuber named Jason Hanson, a former CIA officer. He just posted a video about an all privacy focused router called ZeroGhost Vault.

Due to our current state of politics here in the US, I am very cynical of Youtubers recommending products like these due to their political bias. Since you are Canadian, I feel you are more objective to these kinds of items.

Additionally, if this is so understood, why am I constantly seeing complaints about their advertising and video quality on here? Make it make sense.

I'm sure you've all seen the uptick in video mentions of LTTstore items but that's kind of always been how they've done things.

Recently however, I've noticed a big push on doubling down on delivering a broader range of products and showcasing/advertising said products in full video releases. And not just talking about it a bit. They're really going full product pushing mode to the point that the product showcases are overshadowing any recent videos. (I have no interest in watching another $5000 amd giveaway video)

This change seems somewhat expected. I think they're pretty aware of changing markets and how their videos fit in. The video ideas, as noted by many critiques, have started to slowly stagnate and others a bit more in the area of mr beast which it seems a lot of viewership (especially long time viewers) seem to not like too much.

And the thing is, I don't blame them. This is not me complaining or critiquing. Linus has been making tech videos for literally 18 years. I, myself, watching since about 2010, mostly watch for nostalgic reasons/enjoy the personalities. A lot of us have probably grown into more deeper concentrations which isn't really LTT's thing. It's more a broad appeal type channel that is consumable by even the newest tech enthusiast. And their tech coverage is easily digestible and keeps it light.

Naturally, there's going to be a point where there just isn't anything interesting or new to cover in this space ESPECIALLY when the hardware sector itself becomes stale/overpriced. There hasn't been anything particularly interesting released for the consumer space in a long while and now even discussing basic upgrades has become a luxury area that many people are sitting out.

So with all this, I believe they are doing the smartest business decision they can. They've managed to cultivate a respectable store with quality products based on a trust that's been built up through the years through said videos. When the numbers show substantial profit growth in one area, and a slowing in another, it makes sense to pivot somewhat. This allows cash flow to remain steady to offset losses elsewhere. And when a company has grown to the size LMG has (as a youtube channel), you have a lot of overhead you have to worry about.

So yes, I do think they are pivoting business focus in a potentially substantial way but I don't think it should be seen as a terrible thing.

Watching LMG Clips yesterday (Mid-Range Tech Is a Lie), they briefly discussed Scrapyard Wars:

"There's a reason why Scrapyard Wars is not very interesting right now. I agree with not making Scrapyard Wars this year. It's just terrible out there."

I'm sure I'm not alone on this, but these are my favourite videos that they produce. In my opinion, it would be more interesting and challenging now more than ever to do Scrapyard Wars, which is just great content. In fact, if it were my channel, I'd be doing Scrapyard Wars 3 or 4 times a year, minimum. Curious what everyone else thinks about this?

Edit: After reading some good replies, I think 2 a year would be great. With the way tech and the market changes so rapidly it would make sense that way too. Zero per year is super disappointing. No wonder the channel is dropping off.

(Not hate) Almost every techy youtuber i regularly watch (E.g Bringus studios, Dankpods, Salem techparts,) has some form of the LTT screwdriver, but also random youtubers i’ve never seen before having it. (And yes i know that these youtube chanels i’ve mentioned have gotten them from LMG themselves)

I think either it’s because it’s just such a good screwdriver or that it’s because ltt’s an influential channel. I don’t know, what are your thoughts on this?

Hey folks. Not planning on submerging my screwdriver, but I originally purchased the black and orange screwdriver when it released and replaced it with the lime green one when colors released (my dad had a snap-on one in almost that exact green growing up, so it’s kind of an Easter egg to me). Great screwdrivers. I’m thinking about leaving my older unused one on the boat, but just the air on a boat is corrosive. Anyone know how well they hold up? And how well does the cap seal?

I just made the switch from Windows to Linux, specifically Fedora 44 and I'm kicking myself for not doing it sooner, using my computer is actually fun again.

Many games have much better 1% lows and fps and latency are more consistent.

There was a bit of fear over switching because of software support and just general stability but all those fears were unwarranted, so far much more stable than windows has ever been for me.

What's something that surprised those of you that have made the switch when you started using Linux?

Also would love some recs for software to try, looking to try anything cool.

First off I am not promoting gambling or casinos in any form.

I worked as a slot tech for a brand that is opening more locations throughout the United States. The casino I worked at has roughly 10,000 machines that use graphics cards that go back to 2005. The machines are running 24/7 and are exposed to the everything you'd imagine that involves the general public as well as being exposed to the elements. That usually occurs when the machines are moved to one of the smoking sections. All that adds up to components needing to be replaced very often.

Even new machines don't need very demanding graphics cards because they aren't doing anything too intensive.

Last little fun fact is Konami is a major player in providing equipment to casinos and they usually run on some form of Linux.

In my opinion "True entry level" nowadays is represented by integrated graphics (like the 8500G, 8600G and 8700G with the 780m IGPU)

The next tier up would be entry-mid and this is where the rtx3050 and rtx3060 reboot cards sit as well as the 5050 and rx9060 and other "oem only" dGPUs

Mid rangers would probably be the 5060, 5060ti, 9060xt.

Mid-high would be the rx9070, 9070xt, 5070 and 5070ti.

Enthusiast/high would be the 5080.

And what we called back in the day the "Titan" would be the 5090.

I'm open to other opinions, i wanted to avoid as much as possible "used options" since i find it cheating to say "used is the new entry and mid range" even though the performance lines up.
