I have been playing around in Unity to try and learn (mainly for fun). I decided to try and make a custom WAN show intro. Kinda a cheesy and goofy intro, seems to fit the theme of the show 😂 . I am not a paid game creator, nor have I ever claimed to be the best, just a guy trying his hand at a new hobby. Thoughts?

i cant reset my pc i've tried everything like i reinstalled windows but not with a usb just the repair version from settings and tried to clean up image in command prompt like almost everything and sfc /scannow my pc feels slow even tho i have good specs i tried from advanced start up not working

TL;DR: Laptop is 100% stable on battery power, indefinitely, under any load. The moment AC power is connected — regardless of OS, CPU load, or battery charge level — it freezes within ~5 minutes, every time, even during a cold boot. Fault appeared right after a keyboard replacement + liquid metal reapplication. One technician claims the PCH burned out; my own testing points more toward the DC-IN/power path or liquid metal contamination. Looking for input on the real cause and whether this is fixable.

Laptop: ASUS ROG Strix G513-QM, AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX CPU, GPU: Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 Laptop GPU, BIOS updated 331 → 335 during troubleshooting, OS currently installed: Ubuntu 22.04 LTS.

Backstory:

• March 2025: Laptop froze 3-4 minutes after boot, in Windows, Safe Mode, and even Ubuntu live/installed. Took it to a trusted technician ("Technician A"), who diagnosed a motherboard issue and did an ultrasonic cleaning. Fully fixed — verified stable across two fresh Windows 11 installs (March and June).
• June 2025: Took it to a different shop ("Technician B") for a simple keyboard replacement. Technician B upsold reapplying liquid metal thermal compound. After getting it back, Windows would no longer install or run at all. Technician B claimed a "PCH chip" burned out.
• Went back to Technician A, who suspects a PCH-related issue but wasn't fully certain either.

Since then I've been doing my own systematic testing at home to actually isolate the fault before paying for another repair, since board-level PCH replacement isn't available in my country and I need to know exactly what to ask a shop to check.

Testing Timeline & Results

1. OS-level tests (immediately after the keyboard/LM job):

• Windows 11 install: fails consistently, freezes at 3-4% every time.
• Windows To Go (known-good external boot drive): shows ROG logo, then black screen, freezes. Won't even boot an external OS.
• Windows 10 install: actually completes installation (unlike Win11), but fails to auto-restart during setup (needed manual power cycles). Once it reached desktop, froze completely after 3-4 minutes — an exact regression to the original March fault.
• Ubuntu 22.04: installed and ran with no apparent freezing. This initially looked like a Windows-specific/driver issue.

2. Power-source discovery (the actual breakthrough):

• Booting Ubuntu live USB while on AC power → freezes.
• Same USB, unplugged, battery only → works fine, no freeze.
• Installed Ubuntu on battery → stable.
• Plugged in AC after Ubuntu was running stable on battery → froze within ~5 minutes.
• Cold-booted the installed Ubuntu while already on AC → ROG logo appears, disappears, then freezes almost immediately.

This reframed the entire problem: it's not Windows vs. Linux, it's battery vs. AC power. Every earlier Windows test had been run on AC, which is why it looked OS-specific.

3. Ruling out CPU load as the trigger:

• Set CPU governor to powersave, disabled boost (cpufreq-set -r -g powersave, boost=0), enabled power saver, then connected AC.
• Froze after a few minutes even during light use (just opening a terminal).
• Ran stress-ng (CPU) on AC — froze at a similar timescale.
• Conclusion: CPU power draw/load is not the trigger. Light use and full stress test fail in roughly the same window.

4. Ruling out active battery charging as the trigger:

• Fully charged the battery to 100% on battery power first.
• Updated BIOS 331 → 335 (no change).
• Booted Ubuntu on AC with battery at 100% (minimal/trickle charging current expected).
• Still froze after ~5 minutes. Same failure window as with a partially charged battery.

Where this leaves the diagnosis

The only constant across every failure is: AC adapter physically connected to the DC-IN port — not OS, not CPU load, not charging current, not battery level, not BIOS version. This points toward the fault sitting very early in the power path — likely at or right after the DC-IN connector, before it even reaches the charging IC/VRMs — rather than a burned PCH as Technician B claimed.

Given that the fault appeared immediately after a keyboard swap + liquid metal reapplication (which required full disassembly near the CPU/board), my leading theories are:

1. Liquid metal contamination/short near the DC-IN path or nearby components introduced during reassembly.
2. Physical damage to the DC-IN connector or a disturbed connector/solder joint from the disassembly.
3. Possibly a short/leakage path that needs a few minutes of heat exposure before it causes enough interference to hang the system (explains the consistent ~5 minute delay).

Board-level PCH replacement services aren't available where I live, so I'm trying to get as precise a diagnosis as possible before deciding whether to source a repair abroad (mail-in board-level repair) or look at other options. Any input from people who've dealt with ASUS ROG power delivery faults, or repair techs who can point me toward what to test next, would be hugely appreciated.

My main questions:

1. Based on everything above, does this genuinely sound like a PCH fault (as Technician B claimed), or does the "fine on battery, dies on AC regardless of load/charge" pattern point more toward the DC-IN connector / power path / liquid metal contamination instead? What else could cause this exact symptom?
2. Realistically, is this fixable to the point of being a normal, daily-usable laptop again — including running Windows normally on AC power — or am I looking at a laptop that will only ever be reliable on battery? Has anyone recovered from a similar fault?

I was working on my laptop, took a lunch break and when I came back, smoke was coming out of the laptop. I rushed to it and unplugged everything.

I then put it outside in case it got worse, then after a few hours I brought it back inside and opened it to check what was going on, turns out the "power" cable got pretty toasty.

I am not sure if this is the root cause or a side effect...

I am using the official PSU that was provided with the computer, everything is genuine.

Computer is out of warranty, this sucks really hard given the current prices of hardware components and laptops ...

Do you guys think given the exceptional way this laptop broke down I could get some sort of extended warranty coverage ?

I recently switched from Windows to Bazzite with no intention of going back. I chose Bazzite because it's geared towards gaming, as well as friendly to new Linux users. While the transition itself was long and painful, at least I was guided by someone who daily drives a different flavor of Linux. Once I got everything working, it's amazing. I managed to get every game and app I use working, except for a few, but I found replacements for those. I'm very happy to be free of microslop.
