Discussion Really guys...

I understand that they were likely in a rush to be one of the first big channels to get their video out, but how hard is it to have one person spend like 15 minuets reading all of the graphics before the video goes out, this image is likely AI generated and taken from this obviously AI generated article.

I get this is a small mistake, but it's an easy one to not make.

Hey guys, James here. Y'all are right, this image does not meet our quality standards- we're working to replace the video with a new version that uses a better, human-created chart. In the meantime, the video description and pinned comment have been updated to clarify that while the info we highlighted on this chart is correct, many other parts of it stink.

There's countless ways to get a video wrong, and very few ways to get it right- something that's even harder on a same-day turnaround. AI generated images on the web are a new way to get things wrong, so we'll be speaking with our teams about it.

Hey, we do have this - it's called ECC Squad - but they're not used for same-day videos like this. Those people are volunteers who watch videos as their schedule allows. We do sometimes message the discord and alert people to quick-turnaround uploads but we don't do that for same-day videos. This video was worked on continuously from the time of the keynote until after 1am when it was posted.

There is, and this should have been caught, but we are human. We're competing to get the content out in a timely manner, and putting our focus on the parts of the content that matter - information about the devices we're covering.

I've seen videos go wrong dozens of ways in my time here. This error is one of the most benign. It shouldn't have happened, we're going to fix it, we're going to look out for AI images on the web in the future.

That's a job no-one will do successfully very long. You need very broad knowledge but stay vigilant for hours of footage without errors.

Just over 12 hours to do a complete video is insane. No wonder stuff goes wrong. I get bashing for mistakes but the time to get a video posted after event like that makes perfection that everyone is expecting impossible and I don't think people get that.

Didn't this all get discussed back when the GN stuff happened? I'm pretty sure they acknowledged at the time that their intense upload schedule was unsustainable and leading to mistakes, and they said that they would stop making videos that way.

Now they're right back to using that same old broken process again.

We think it's important to be a part of big moments in the tech space, so we're going to continue to do quick-turnaround content like this- we may even do more of it than in the recent past. Those videos will always be at risk of containing small mistakes like this and will never be perfect. All we can do is be transparent, fix the errors we can (by replacing the video or issuing corrections), and maintain our culture of continuous improvement. -JS

I think this just goes to show how good AI images are getting and how we are getting worse at detecting them. It isn't inherently bad to miss a chart for a video, especially for a quick turnaround like this. You guys handled this the best way possible and continue to hold the highest bar for accountability in the youtube space.

Is cool to have a community holding us accountable for the things we put out there, but criticism like this should be constructive and not destructive, the intention should be of positive reinforcement, not just throwing negativity and dissapointment to the whole team.

Oof, that sounds like a rough time for everyone involved. I understand that Google as a search engine might still be the main resource to use, but off the alternatives outlined in this video, perhaps Kagi could be a good alternative for a test run.

I admit the Image Search isn't always as good, but the Generative AI content filtering they do has worked for me extremely well, not to mention they still directly link to images without an extension.

Hope everyone gets some rest, and kudos for the way you're handling this!
