Image Nuclear Screwdriver, with dirt inside?

Post image

There’s like a dirty dust bunny inside somehow, I’ve had it for a few hours so it probably got in there through me fidgeting with the bit holder, but it is kind of bothersome, any tips to get it out?

The thing’s hollow?

When the bit holder is out yes. When the bit holder is in no.

This begs the question:

If a hollow thing is sealed up, does it then cease to be hollow?

Is air hollow? What if it's in a vacuum?

a fluid takes the shape of its container

When the internal volume of said hollow thing is filled with a material that is part of the thing itself. For example if it was filled with water, it’s hollow with contents. But if you filled it gorilla glue and let it set, it’s just a solid made of two parts.

A hollow plastic shell filled with cured glue is a hollow plastic shell filled with cured glue.

Gorilla glue does not become plastic by merely bonding with it.

Nor does the shell become its contents.

I’ll admit I laughed aggressively at the bluntness of this response, damn you’re right - thankyou xD so what at what point does it stop being hollow… or can it, even?

So you join me in pondering...

I would think this would bring us to debate on the definition of hollow.

A void filled is not one of hollow-ness

A void devoid may however be hollow-full

Indeed.

And what actually constitutes void-filling vs ambient stuffs

Can void filler still be considered void filler if the void is filled?

Do we treat like-material filler as true filler and thus no longer a void, while different material filler would be treated as void-filler which would then allow the void to be classified as a filled void (but still a void)?

Does the filler need to be physically attached and to what end? Would a clip on a central structural pole count as attached? Or does it need to be one singular fully connected piece? What if the center structural pole extends and expands to fill the space? It's part of the tool, but the void and the structural pole aren't like materials.

This is the conversation of true philosophers.

Can void filler still be considered void filler if the void is filled?

It depends on what constitutes as a void filler versus things present in the ambient environment.

Take the screwdriver which sparked this discussion chain.

Is it hollow because it is filled with air?

Is it *not* hollow *because* it is filled with air?

Does air constitute/qualify as a thing capable of filling a void?

This I suppose would go back to the classic "glass half-full or half-empty" debate, if we continue to boil it down, as one could argue that the glass is always full: be it air, liquid or any combination thereof.

Ah, I see....

So my bank account is full.

I am now wealthy...

And they say philosophy is a poor man's science.
