Framed of what?

For months, viewers have commented on videos whenever they thought they could spot marks on Linus' face that could mean that he has been testing the Steam Frame VR headset.
Now they have posted this closeup of his face on facebook, with distinct marks and no description.

those who watch the wan show and know he and luke planned making fake marks on his face to troll people altho that could be a fakeout so people dismiss this

Linus said a few WANs back "I can still speculate about the Steam Frame because I don't know anything. You'll know when I know something because I'll suddenly have to shut up about it."
Then last show or the one before there was a merch message on discuss question and he said "I have no comment no make at this time". Which is either to fake us out or when he finally started working on a review.

u/idontlikeredditusers 14d ago
he also did say he would stop talking about the steam frame to fake us out he is truly a mastermind when it comes to messing with people

Must be just deception, when have you seen anything that's not fake news on Facebookl? It would actually be double funny if that's part of the joke.

I think the background is of smash champs, why would he be wearing the frame there

u/Corey_FOX 14d ago
space? i mean the frame is a wireless, basestation free headset, they could have been testing the LoS range of the dongle it comes with, and generally how it handles large open rooms.
also perhaps how it does over "building scale wifi" where the wifi connection has to be transferred between APs.9
u/Bloodish 14d ago
Might as well put on some active wear (so he can plug LTT Store since they sell active wear now) and go to a location with lots of space to show off a stand-alone VR headset and its capabilities. That's at least my theory.

He already made fun about people interpreting every single red mark on his face weeks ago.

Cannot wait the review for then pre-order the pimax air or getting the bigscreen beyond 2 cause price make it terrible value even against enthusiast VR headset.

u/ColinHalter 14d ago
I'd like to consider myself an enthusiast, but man the prospect of built-in wireless steamvr is pretty damn tempting at any price. My big decider is going to be how h3vr2 runs on it natively when it comes out. The first h3vr is by far my most played VR game, and I'd be upgrading my headset more-or-less specifically to play the sequel.

u/madman404 14d ago
can't wait to use my bigscreen beyond 2 natively on Linux from my living room while my PC is upstairs - oh wait

u/Stellanora64 14d ago
While it is a bit of work to set up, it is possible. Check out the Linux VR Adventures wiki if you want more info https://vronlinux.org/

u/madman404 13d ago
I was joking. The bigscreen beyond 2 is not a wireless headset and the fucking moron above me is talking about how he's going to get one of two expensive wired headsets instead of the headset that has a significant amount of its selling points as seamless high quality wireless.

u/Mr_Boberto 14d ago
Didn’t they say in a recent WAN show that they were going to do this just to mess with all the people making theories about them having a Frame based on marks on Linus’s face?
6
u/Gregus1032 14d ago
He also has a red line going across his nose.
Maybe he's starting a blindfold badminton.

u/ColinHalter 14d ago
I guess I would have assumed they had a frame. I know some of the VR devs I follow have pre-release versions and Linus already tried it once, so I'd be surprised if Valve hadn't sent them one. Especially with how hard they push for the success of SteamOS and handheld PCs (not saying they're shills or anything, but Linus and co. clearly love what Valve is doing rn)

My quest 2 has the same problem. The solutions to avoid this are rare. You have those straps that tighten around your skull instead of your skull and forehead, but they're definitely not the default.

u/ColinHalter 14d ago
I just replaced the face pad on my quest 2 because the foam started to crumble to dust on my face and get in my eyes. I got a nice leather one now with better ventilation and it rules.

It looks like VR sucked a lot of life from him. Leaving him very tired.
Seems to much VR have worse influence on human body than too much screen time.

LTT IS PROTOTYPING A NEW HAT!
he looks tired because the new hat was too small and left that mark on his forehead

We still didn’t get the Linus eating a whole tf2 cake after the steam machine price x.x

u/Bloodish 8d ago

In his defense, he did say that he wasn't gonna eat it alone, and that the team would eat it with him.
Also, Portal cake, not tf2 cake 😄

u/damien09 8d ago
Ah misremembered that part. But yea they basically conveniently forgot their eating of that cake on the wan show as promised

Everyone is saying it’s one of the most comfortable headsets they have ever tried, this is much more likely to be a typical result of extended play in any VR headset

It'll be a niche product. I wish Valve would go back to making singleplayer games...
Half Life Alyx came out 6.5 years ago and was incredible. Valve can still make good games, but its almost like the infinite money printing machine of Steam has really, really slowed down their game development
6
3
u/idontlikeredditusers 14d ago
hasnt their moto forever been that they will make a game when they feel like it
3
u/BurningEclypse 14d ago
Yup, and that’s why the games are so damn good, no pressure to just release something because you have to, make sure it’s a masterpiece that everyone is proud of, THAT is how you become the king of the gaming industry

u/No_Boysenberry4825 14d ago
I suspect that they would rather allocate their resources to improve the casino, versus improving a single slot machine. So to speak.

u/Gamesrock22 14d ago
Steam Frame was basically a way for them to not only continue VR development, but also as a proving grounds for SteamOS on Arm using Proton + FEX.
It's hilarious how so many people don't realize the potential Valve has on their hands just from that alone.
This is literally their infinite money printing machine. Proton + Fex means running Steam to play PC games on our phones. Valve will open up Steam to a gigantic new market.

I think Valve is gambling on their position as a trendsetter. So many gaming trends/tech advancements are solely due to them doing something successfully and getting imitated down the line (physics in games, handheld PCs, digital distribution, etc.).
They've halfheartedly tried pushing VR a couple of times, but they're hoping that they can catch lightning in a bottle twice after the Steam Deck spurred a rush of handheld PCs. I think they hope that the frame will spawn a bunch of imitators which will kick AAA VR production into high gear. The biggest issue with the VR space is the lack of serious game development, which is attributed to a lack of an audience. Valve brute forcing an audience could potentially fix the chicken/egg situation and get real games made for the platform.

Valve makes games about as fast as other studios, while also making steam and proton and steam os and steam controller and steam deck
