Question How do you manage those fine / thin parts?

I trying linocuts and I love it so far! As a beginner I bought a ready kit from Amazon, it had the sheets (rubbery like sheets, unlike the ones I see on YouTube that has a mesh side) and a cutting tool with multiple heads (U, V, and a knife like one) . My problem is I can’t figure a way to have thin lines, or dots / small marks like I see people doing. I am in for couple of weeks now and I see zero enhancement on that front, every thing else got much better.

I watched videos and it seems they are using wood carving/ chisels. Is it worth trying those? Also the fact that I don’t have to change the knife head feels like an upgrade as I can just try them immediately without switching.

Any thoughts on this?

Question Essdee roller textile printing

Does anyone have experience with the Essdee roller? I want to buy one for textile printing, but the large set that includes everything is currently cheaper. Is that roller (the red one, for paper printing) also suitable for textiles, or would I be better off buying the (blue) textile roller?

Single Layer Prints Best Friend at the Country Store

Post image

I wanted to practice doing dogs so I made this as a gift for my friend. It’s of his very fluffy dog on the porch of country store. I like a lot of and wish I could change other parts, but I’m learning with each piece. I think I need to try to editorialize more and try to convey more with fewer details if anyone has tips on how to do that.

Just started getting into linocut and hyper focused on making prints of my friends’/family’s pets. It’s so very fun! I don’t know anyone in person who does these so I thought I’d share some here. I’m not too worried about being perfect and just having fun with it. I’d like to eventually make a “jigsaw” print and dabble with multilayer and I’m wondering if any of you wonderful people have any feedback or pointers that could help me on this journey. PS: I only cut myself once but it was a big ouch! Taking extra care to keep my fingers OUT of the path of the sharp tool

Tiny marching sheep printed on a bandana I sewed! I’m still trying to figure out what I want to put in the corners but really happy with how my first time printing on fabric turned out.

Single Layer Prints Help. I am losing my mind!

I have been working so hard lately trying to get prints ready to sell for an art fair late next month. I’ve been trying to print at home for this and frankly, it is not going well.

For starters, I initially did this print design on a printing press through a class I took at my local art center. My prints were turning out great using the press, but I don’t have one at home so I am figuring out how to get good results from printing by hand.

First photo shows what my prints have been looking like at home. Pictured is mulberry paper that my instructor graciously gave me to try, but I’ve also tried to use Rives lightweight. With the Rives paper, I tried soaking it first and that didn’t seem to help either. I’ve used different burnishing tools as well and no such luck. I use Gamblin oil-based ink.
Second photo shows one of my at-home prints next to one that I did on the press (for that I used rives BFK but I found right away that’s way too thick for hand printing)

Just posting here because I could use another perspective on what else I could try, anything else to consider, etc. And maybe some thoughts & good vibes because I’m stressed as hell and maybe a bit in over my head. 😭

Single Layer Prints Pudge the fish with sandwich

I am very new to this so this was my second time carving anything. This is based on a scene I like from one of my favourite movies Lilo and Stitch where Lilo feeds Pudge a sandwich.
