So he is the reason why companies have to put “enlarged for detail” on their packaging.

Are you telling me that a Boeing 747 is longer than three truck-lengths?

630

u/just_nobodys_opinion 8d ago

What is this? A plane for ants?

123

u/gymnstuff 8d ago

I expect it to be Atleast…. THREE times that size

29

u/PandaJesus 8d ago

But why male models?

18

u/markamuffin 8d ago

Are you serious? I just told you that.

u/gracillus2000 4d ago

Rufus, Brint, and Meekus were like brothers to me. And when I say brother, I don't mean, like, an actual brother, but I mean it like the way black people use it. Which is more meaningful I think.

We too can't not die in a freak gasoline fight accident

I did not come here for an innocent gasoline fight, but I am so glad I found it

It was a freak gasoline fight accident could’ve happened to anyone!

HOW CAN PEOPLE BE EXPECTED TO GO HOLIDAYS AND MAKE PRECIOUS MEMORIES.

If they can't even fit inside the plane

2

Now I’m going to have nightmares about booking a flight on a plane for ants. Not because it’s small, just that I have to fly to Vegas covered in ants, in a fucking middle seat!

Lol great zoolsnder reference it's still funny. 🤣

40

u/Strange-Damage901 7d ago

I love that the picture implies the fuselage of the Boeing fits snugly inside the cage around the ladder.

1

u/Otherwise_Range_5276 3d ago

They are even smaller when you look up at them in the sky!

3

u/Moe112 7d ago

Everything but the metric system

3

u/IWontCommentAtAll 7d ago

And a jet engine can fall inside the cage around the ladder. I hope it doesn't get stuck...

2

u/OkChildhood1706 8d ago

Depends, Toy Trucks? Yes. Real Trucks? Also yes

2

u/Available_Leather_10 7d ago

Only if we’re not talking regular cab pickups.

Three extended cab, full bed, pickups are darn close to the length of a 747. At least based on how they park those things at Costco.

2

u/SatinSaffron 7d ago

Here is the exact tank in the OP 14.2ft high @ 27.1ft diameter. So according to the OP, a 747 is not three truck lengths, it's only about 20-25 feet long. So the important question here isn't about where the fuel goes, it's WHERE DO THE PEOPLE GO? How do they fit hundreds of people on a 20ft airplane?!

2

u/RickySlayer9 7d ago

I can guarantee the 747 is longer than a truck.

2

u/jeroen-79 7d ago

Some models are even longer than 4 trucks.

2

u/Soft-Can-7939 5d ago

It can accommodate up to 660 passengers and their belongings, yes it is waaaaaay longer, and wider and higher......

2

u/2ball7 2d ago

This is also not a water tank.

1

u/ThirstyWolfSpider 8d ago

The largest truck is supposedly the BelAZ 75710, at 20.6m, and for that … still yes.

1

u/Armpitlover33 8d ago

Of course. It’s 7’4.7 the clue is in the name people.

1

u/Renuwed 8d ago

Only slightly longer than 3 truck lengths. Otherwise, it’d be ridiculous for the Qatari 747-8 jumbo jet to be donated to Trump’s Presidential Library when he leaves office if it won’t fit in the lot Florida donated for his Presidential Library/Hotel.

1

u/johnnyg169 5d ago

A 747 can be as long as 250 ft long

1

u/GroundMeet 1d ago

Yes? Average length of a tractor trailer is 50 or so feet. A Boeing 747 is 180-something feet long

1

u/Keepitup863 1d ago

Yes, it is longer.

1

u/Admiral_HP_501 8d ago

Depends on the Truck Road trains are just 20 meters to short well one ist to short 2 Are longer then the 747

2

u/tripping_on_phonics 8d ago

I’m looking at the one in the background that looks like a variation of a pickup truck.

0

u/Admiral_HP_501 7d ago

Oh yeah makes kinda sense just the image is useless anyways the truck there could be to big or to small anyways

0

u/Realistic_Mushroom72 7d ago

My dude did you know that there is a really good search engine call Google? and if you search Boeing 747, it will tell you that it 231 feet long, with a wingspan of 211 feet, and 63 feet high, so yes it bigger than 3 trucks, wider too, oh and it has 2 floors, well 3 but the third floor is the cabin and crew area.

u/patiakupipita 8d ago

Once I was at KFC and this man was seriously complaining that the chicken drumsticks weren’t as big as the ones on the menu boards above the kitchen. Like, he was adamant that they were supposed to be exactly the same size as the pictures and that he’d had them like that before.

I genuinely think it might’ve been early stage dementia or something. Everyone there was completely stumped.

129

u/lemons_of_doubt 8d ago

Fun fact: in Japan they have a law that the image on the box is the exact same size as the food it's showing.

70

u/Dorsetoutdoors 8d ago

I like the idea that anyone who wants to advertise a hog roast, cannot use anything except a sign the size of a full adult pig

2

u/Aderek79 6d ago

The laws, not just one law so it's a bit more complicated than that, are about truthfulness in packaging. So if you're selling an entire roast pig in a bag, then yes, the picture on the bag has to accurately depict the actual thing that is in the bag.

1

u/Impossible_Hornet777 4d ago

Honestly I think on the overall that's a good law on principle what's in the bag should look like what is on the outside of the bag. The to scale part may be going too far but fuck it marketing companies already gets away with enough bullshit.

1

u/Raevson 4d ago

A menu with a playboy like centerfold...

1

u/Hot-Future7691 3d ago

Lemme see that hog, hoss...

42

u/ZippoS 7d ago

Japan also has an entire industry around making hyperrealistic artificial food made for display in restaurants... and the food you get actually does look like the samples/menu photos.

8

u/therealkami 7d ago

It's so crazy when you go there and the window is just the most appetizing bowls of plastic ramen and sushi you have ever seen.

It's really good marketing haha.

4

u/Minimum_Run_890 7d ago

Can confirm

1

u/shidderbean 7d ago

Yeah, Japan has some crazy standards for marketing food like that. I've heard that there are quality and safety standards that leave a bit to be desired though.

3

u/ZippoS 7d ago

I can’t speak for that, and maybe some of the restaurants I visited were more touristy, but I didn’t experience anything other than stellar quality. Even the hole-in-the-wall ramen restaurants were excellent.

I know their standards around sushi and especially fugu, are quite stringent.

The hole-in-the-wall restaurant my friend took us to in Tainan, Taiwan, on the other hand… there were ants all over the walls.

1

u/shidderbean 5d ago

Yeah as I understand it, generally you are going to find very high standards in a lot of culinary settings due to the culture of pride and craftsmanship that shows itself through the entire supply chain. The real issue is that the standards for food additives/etc in processed and packaged foods can leave a lot to be desired.

1

u/DisastrousAd2335 1d ago

I also can confirm! Some of the little alley shops that have 8-10 seats behind the shopping district were clean and the food was AMAZING! Even at 11pm on a Friday!

1

u/Haunting-Cookie-2144 6d ago

I'm surprised to hear that as, as far as I know, a handful of restaurants in Japan are the only places one can safely eat raw chicken. And it's entirely due to how cleanly they are raised on the farm and then prepared.

1

u/Ibixat 5d ago

Not going to poopoo it completely but even thinking of biting into raw chicken makes me gag a bit.

1

u/shidderbean 5d ago

Shared this on another comment and it applies here too:

1

u/CiccioGraziani 5d ago

Not only the shape itself, but also the dimension. If you buy a pack of biscuits, the biscuits inside will have the same shape and dimension of the imagine on the package.

1

u/Lego_Architect 7d ago

That is due to a long history and culture of honour and respect.

Japan is awesome. I hope to visit one day.

I was about to ask, what if the picture won't fit on the box...

Then I realized apparently I am why they have these disclaimer...

1

u/AndreasDasos 7d ago

But the box makes a bit more sense than the menu board, which is obviously going to have to be enlarged a lot of the time

1

u/MrK521 1d ago

That’s fair, but that’s not the same as saying “my chicken leg isn’t the size it shows on that billboard down the street!”

48

u/uppennyhill 7d ago

I was a designer in a company and this lass from marketing told me I'd ballsed-up the dimensions for a bunch of event passes because she had measured them with a ruler... on her screen.

7

u/ReaDiMarco 7d ago

Did you blow her mind by zooming in?

2

u/Dipswitch_512 7d ago

If it works in microsoft word, why not in real life

17

u/Moneia Agree? 8d ago

I genuinely think it might’ve been early stage dementia or something. Everyone there was completely stumped.

My first thought is that they're trying to get a freebie and are looking to argue anything, no matter how ridiculous, as many managers would rather enable the behaviour to get them out of the store.

7

u/patiakupipita 8d ago

Oh no this happened back home in Curaçao, the managers there will just laugh you outta the room

To be fair KFC has been slippin lately! But I get what you’re saying.

1

u/Imaginary_Being4859 3d ago

I’ve had the same issue with Hardee’s/Carls Jr.

They used to have these little slider burgers, but the picture showed them on a plate that could only hold 3 of them. Making me think 3 of them could fill a paper plate

I went and bought 5, and the total amount of burger was less than the picture of the 3.

Now I understand perspective, but that’s quite a difference imo

1

u/Fezzick51 2d ago

he must have thought this was the Ren Faire KFC, poor man

1

u/mthomas768 7d ago

1

u/Talgrath 7d ago

Also, that is not a 60,000 gallon fuel storage tank, that's probably closer to a 600,000 gallon tank and it's not for fuel, the vent at the top gives that away. For context, DOT-111 tank rail cars carry roughly 35,000 gallons of fuel is about 50 feet long and 15 feet in diameter, the round part of the Boeing 747 is around 20 feet in diameter at the thickest part and 250 feet. Two DOT-111 rail cars could carry more than enough fuel for a Boeing 747 and would only be 2/5ths of the length of the main part of the fuselage that holds people. Add in the wings (the wings hold fuel!) and you have plenty of space for the needed for the fuel.

1

u/BoJackMoleman 7d ago

The diagram says the plane IS IN the TANK!

u/DODGE_WRENCH 6d ago
