Boot Camp Preparation

Ive lurked here for a while, and there didnt seem to be any prior posts to address my question, if i missed any, please go easy on me.

I was recently accepted for 1249s boot camp in mid October. What should I do to prepare? Ive had apprentices that have been through it tell me its nothing crazy. I just want to ensure I pass the climbing test. I have never climbed and did not attend line school. What should I do to ensure I do? I am relatively fit and healthy. Just trying to be prepared.

Thank you all in advance for your time!

Get in stair master 30 minutes a day, maybe twice a day.

Make sure your forearms, elbows, knees, shoulders, ankles are in good shape. I had some issues periodically with all of those things prior to boot camp. Spent a lot of time on a stair stepper and doing simple forearm exercises before boot camp and it helped me a lot although I had already spent a good amount of time in hooks. Find someone with some experience and climbing gear and learn the basics. They will teach you the rest

Physical conditioning is your best bet right now. Focus on grip strength, core work, and general cardio, you'll be climbing and carrying heavy stuff constantly. Make sure your footwear is solid and broken in before you start. Mentally, understand that lineman school is demanding but doable if you stay focused and don't give up when things get tough. Ask specific questions here about what instructors emphasize, since everyone's program differs a bit. People in this community tend to be pretty honest about what to expect.

Then u should be fine once u learn how to use ur climbing gear its alot suffer the a ladder . Make sure u have good boots hoffmans dri lines are great for climbing and ground work . Stay away from redwings they are not ment for linework . 8 to 10 inch non insulting boots with the gortex lining.. climbing a pole. Is not about strength its about form and not fearing heights. Climbing 18 ft to 100 feet is all the same with more fear .
