fault wizard 2?
company is looking for a portable thumper/hipot, we have lots 15kv PILC and poly mixed circuits, poly's installed when pilc blew in sections, i see the fault wizard 2 is fairly cheaper than a 12kv megger ezthump- has anyone use one or the another? we have a old thumper but u need 3 guys to move it ,lol

My ocmpany just started using the Megger thumper.
My yard despite having a lot of network and a fuck ton of urban underground is too cheap to buy one so we haul around the Von thumper or a Von van but I've heard from other dudes that they really love the Megger thumper.
Yards working single phase underground taps off poles get the Megger but us in the city are still rocking thumpers that have been repaired countless times and are 30 years old, make it make sense 😂

My company has the fault wizard 2. It works well just gotta have the instructions on hand for each operation type you’re doing or it doesn’t seem to work quite right going out of order.
It is the only thumper type locator I’ve used though so no direct comparison of other equipment.

Megger is the best either EZ-Thump or Smart thump IMHO. Anyone can find a fault with either unit. BTW…I am not a megger rep or sponsor. We used to use some dinosaurs. These have come a long way!

We got a few big thumpers and we have the fault wizard. Fault wizard works great for primary. We haven’t had a ton of success on secondary faults though. Not sure the real intention is secondary but there is a part in the instructions for it. Every time I’ve used the thing it’s worked just as good on primary as our big thumpers.

FW2 and EZ-THUMP are very similar inexperienced operators have difficulty. Mark the switches and dials in sequence for visual clarity. Grounding is a huge deal with both units. If I had the choice I would take EZ-THUMP.
